I just noticed now that the sniper rifle in Halo: Reach is built for left-handed people. Crazy! Even when Six (and I'm pretty sure Jun) snipes right-handed. I'm pretty sure Jun is right handed; he has the sniper bandoleer on his left shoulder, so he can grab them with his right hand. Good luck fumbling the cartridges over or under the rifle to quickly feed into the chamber, Jun.

Six doesn't seem to have a problem loading the rifle though. Ambidexterity FTW

Btw, due to the issues HBO had with its site earlier in the week, the final two chapters of the guide have been delayed. However, since what I'm doing for Lone Wolf is a bit more... complex... then than what I usually do, I'm going to need to wind Pillar of Autumn to a close over the weekend.

Do I sense cryptic clues concerning the possibility that the final level in Halo: Reach might just be more than the simple objective, "survive": the previously held opinion by the majority of players?

I think I do.

Halo Reach Mythic Conqueror

So I keep dying when the fuel rod brute shows up. Any tips on how to take him out? On my latest run I broke his shields and gave him one super combine but before I could do it again his shields were already recharging and he took me out while trying to strafe his shots (which I may say were not that close to me)

Don't you get a fresh batch of marines just before that wave starts? I found they usually distract the fuel rod brute quite well. Unless, of course, you take too long to act and he kills all the marines and then he's very difficult to take out. Even if the fuel rods miss you, the hit the wall behind you and kill you instantly. When he's distracted by marines, you can plasma pepper him from close range pretty easily. When I say "close range" I mean from the catwalk to the little hut where the sniper rifle is.

I've always killed him while he was fighting marines; I don't want to think about what I would do if there were no marines.

Well...I suppose I could pepper him from the door to which you enter the area, but I would miss most of my shots and I would run out of ammo.

And that was an easy one...

Fortunately you have a very handy guide to help get you there the rest of the way.

Indeed! I knocked over Nightfall last night and today set to work on the Package.

Had an interesting moment heading back to safety for the next wave after grabbing the wraith - was too slow and was underneath it as it landed. Somehow managed to run to safety... leaving my wraith behind. A bunch of the guys hung around it, one of the elites constantly jumping in and out of my wraith's turret. Eventually I was able to pepper the turret guy to death and make a run for the wraith and get things back on track, and success!

New topic: one of the offline runners at HSH (i.e. no XBL) discovered a way to get through the Hospital in New Alexandria without having to kill anything: by driving a banshee through it. He hasn't managed to get a video online to show us the whole thing, but from the description he provided I have managed to figure out at least part of it and it looks as if it does have applications for Mythic.

What have you experienced with this after hitting the jammer? I was able to fly right up to the jammer no problems (well, other than struggling to get it down the ramps, and trying to get the banshee in the first place), and no crashes as mentioned in the post at HSH.

Once I pressed it things got a little strange - I hopped straight back in the banshee and headed out, and halfway down the hallway I got teleported or that part of the map de-loaded, or something(?). Still had the banshee hud, but couldnt do anything. Reverted to save and tried it again without hopping back in the banshee and simply went to head out on foot - at about the same spot it happened again, but this time I was teleported outside the front door, ready to call for a new falcon and presumably continue on. Bizarre.

And this concept of New Alexandria intrigues me. Does anyone have a rendered clip by any chance?

Pretty much the same, yes. I think what cyph9r meant by crashes was the level deloading around you and getting stuck in space inside the banshee. He made it sound like you could retrieve the banshee and fly it back out but, I haven't been able to replicate that. What I'm currently thinking is that it'll be best to force the deload and teleportation back to the entrance. I.e. by getting into your banshee again and waiting for whatever trigger it is and getting out just before the level deloads. I need to play around with it a bit though to figure out exactly where/when it is.

Basically the biggest obstacle with this is acquiring the banshee (and have it not randomly deload on you). They can be quite tricky to get on Legendary.

@Tryrant. I'll get one online soon.

In regards to getting a Banshee, do most people do a midair hijack, or is it possible to lure one in from one of the Skyscrapers?

In regards to the Smelting Room Jump, one of the first things I discovered was that the pipes themselves have different elevations. If you stand on the highest elevation, then jump & crouch, it's pretty easy. Quite often I can get it on the first jump :-)

when I did it I found the best option was to use your AR to get their attention from a roof and then EMP them as they fly over the building. I think that would be easier than trying to get them midair, and definitely has more margin for error on mythic

but it does mean you need to kill your turret guys first, or they kill off the banshees

When the challenges arrive, you'll get tons of credits per mission. Other than that, was there a point to beating Halo CE and Halo 2 on Legendary other than your own personal satisfaction?

The challenge is exists for those who love campaign and are looking to take their game to the next level. This feat was once deemed "impossible" by Bungie devs.

Its for those that find Legendary too easy. Or want an even greater challenge. Its about personal accomplishment. Absolute mastery of the game in the hardest conditions.

Shortly before launch, a few Bungie guys tried the first level with all skulls on in co-op, allowing deaths. They took 5 hours to do Winter Contingency. Now we can do it in less than 13 minutes, solo, with no deaths.

when I did it [...]

Is this trick more widely known than I thought it was?

Ah well. I've spent the render minutes now anyway...

Heres the rendered clip. Thats Legendary + 11 skulls. Demonstrating that its certainly possible to skyjack a Banshee straight out of your Falcon but its actually way harder than it looks. I was kinda fortunate in this run (which I finished to the end in 13 minutes total!) to get a pair of banshees that weren't gunning for me straight away. If they're trying to attack you, they're swerving everywhere which makes it extremely difficult to jack them.

An easier method is to go to Vyrant first, grab a jetpack, then park up on one of the highest building tops (like the hospital tower). Then jetpack up and grab one as they fly over. Still tricky, but more readily repeatable.

As for PoA, here is a rendered clip Tyrant. Decided to send a couple of rockets the way of the Grunts as they were getting into that recharge station thingy, then go for the jump. This is actually the start of a 12 skull run I went all the way to the end, without deaths, in just under 30 minutes. Getting more comfortable with skipping the Zealots now. I'll hopefully nail a full-skull run soon.

I would have got a clip with the enemies not all exploding themselves, but it happened exactly the same way on an all-skull run right after and I was just like 'screw it' since I'd already clipped it.

The banshee into the hospital looks cool, but I think it would be very risky. All it would take is for one grunt to plasma pistol you and then stick you.

I'm still confused: how did you teleport outside the hospital?

What are your current tactics for dealing with him? Or should I say attempting to deal with him...

The couple times I have gotten past that wave I think I killed him while he was engaging the marines like Michael_Archer said. I think on the past couple runs he hasn't been going up the stairs to fight them and I'm trying to pepper him from the catwalk while he is either at the front of the stairs to the catwalk or on the ground level where all the health packs are. Once he went inside that building and was shooting me from there. I also have a problem where I am running out of PP ammo trying to kill him and there is basically none around. Do you all gather more than one PP before that wave attacks?

On another note, I noticed awhile back that by the 2nd smelting room I would have a full needle rifle. I said hey why let those 3 needle rifles that get dropped go to waste so I've been juggling an extra one out to the landing pad and using needle rifles to kill brutes on the first wave and stopping when I use up my spare. I've noticed that weapons don't really despawn on the first wave (unless its just a fluke where your gun disappears out from under you) so I've had pretty good success doing this and having a PP waiting for wave 2. I've also started picking up the PP before the wave starts and dropping the DMR. I don't know if I'm crazy but I feel like DMRs despawn less frequently than PPs

So I got pissed, turned off my console, called up a few buddies and played Halo 2. I think I'm ready for another try tonight. I WILL complete this level.

In theory yes. But you're basically past the grunts in a few of seconds. The Jackals can and do PP you yes, but they've no stickies.

I'm still confused: how did you teleport outside the hospital?Notice that the Jetpack AAs in the crate disappeared just before I jumped out of the Banshee? The game was de-loading that area around me. It thought, since I was back in a vehicle, that I must be outside and flying around in the city again, so it should drop the hospital geometry and load the next area. I'm guessing the teleport effect is a left-over from a co-op safety net in case one player is still inside the hospital and the rest are on their way to the next objective. If you're still inside the Banshee when it de-loads, the teleport won't activate, and you'll get stuck, unable to move.

Nope, only use one personally. What I do is use my DMR on the first wave, then as the wave ends and the second one is starting to come in, I run down and trade my DMR for a PP from one of the Jackals/Grunts that I've killed and then run back to the catwalk and wait for the hammer cheiftain.

Making sure, of course, that you've already made sure the DMR crate is safe.

You can sort of snipe the FRG chieftain using the horizontal gap in the middle of the sheet metal panels.

If thats really not working for you, you could always try grabbing the Hammer and taking it up close. Assuming you've cleared out his cronies first.

After the two cheiftains from the second wave are dead, and I have a little bit of breathing room, I go and grab a new DMR from the crate and juggle it back to the camp spot.

Do you save and quit and practice from the bit you died? I found that helped me a lot.

Depends a bit on what kind of side missions you get stuck with. If you got Jackals attacking troopers or something it could work, but if you got the mobile jammer one for example, you'd be dead.

Awesome hospital trick, RC! I'll have to play around with it. All and all, it looks like fun!

In regards to PoA's fuel rod Chieftain, I tend to juggle a PP from the previous encounter to the catwalk and use that against the Chieftains. I haven't had an issue with it yet except for the occasional despawn. In that case, what you may want to do is this...

Towards the second half of wave one, the enemies retreat further back. Take this opportunity to juggle a second PP up the stairs so that you have a spare, but keep it separate from the first to avoid creating a "high stress" area. Lure the hammer Chieftain your way and take him out first. Then, use the "elbow" of the catwalk to strafe back and forth to deal with Mr. Fuel Rod. Lastly, I use the second plasma pistol against Chieftain #3.

@Shadow

Personally, I don't really even bother with the assassination technique since it's a coin toss anyway. Just hang back and kill everything from the doorway. The Spec Ops Elites have extremely weak shields. For the General, just shoot your Needle Rifle at him to force him to continuously dodge until you can close the gap. Then, either assassinate him or wait for him to get stuck in crouch mode.

We're all running out of PP ammo, but wed don't have a good solution. On the first wave, I let the jackals come up a bit before killing them so the plasma pistols would be closer to my holdup.

DO NOT make a big stockpile of them. Have only one or two on the ground and continually check on them and pick them up. Don't wander too far away from them either. The game tries not to clean up debris in front of your eyes.
