After seeing this amazing video, I was able to do it in one go. Excellent find you guys. You continue to amaze me!

I think we've found the new Floodgate in Reach :-)

Nicely done.

Because only like, 40 people have ever done the whole of Halo 3. Out of the 10s of millions of people that have played it!

The film itself is 1h30 long so I made a clip of it: Shortcut Nightfall.

Holy crap. That is amazing!

I tried this out on Normal, and you just need the 1 forklift. Heres a nice short rendered clip. What you're doing is, you're using the disembark animation to squeeze yourself through the gap in between the two doors. I reverted because I couldn't believe I did it first try, but I got a checkpoint immediately on the other side! I did this immediately after taking out the enemies on the bridge: no other killing required!

I think this trick just made Nightfall the simplest mission in the game!

Indeed! I used this method in previous halo games so I thought maybe it still works. Now only PoA and LNoS left for me. Is there a cloak ability on PoA?

Oh my god, you guys awesome. Now EVERY battle is skippable in that level. I'm on Nightfall right now! Does this mean I don't have to clear out all the covenant around the pylon? I'm not exactly sure where the forklift is, but I'm assuming that it's near one of those battles I skipped. I guess that means I have to fight them. *sigh*

Download my film, or watch Tyrant's render of his own, slightly different run.

Yes. Just kill the Elite on the bridge at least so he doesn't wake all the grunts up.

I'm not exactly sure where the forklift is,
At the end of the bridge to the pylon area. Right in your face.
but I'm assuming that it's near one of those battles I skipped. I guess that means I have to fight them. *sigh*
Nope. If you get all the way to the pylon area, within a few triggers (not sure on the specifics) all the enemies in previous areas (as well as ammo and weapons) will despawn.

Thanks for the tips. I usually snipe the grunts on the tower so they don't man the turrets. I keep shooting until the elite on the bridge falls back with whatever grunts that are left alive in his squad. The fact that I can sneak around and kill the Elite so he doesn't wake up the grunts makes this level even easier.

I'm surprised the forklift doesn't wake up the grunts though.

  • 09.30.2010 3:35 PM PDT

Lol. Now Nightfall actually can be a complete stealth mission.

I have had some similar thoughts about sequence breaking in other levels, but I have yet to test them. What I'm noticing is that sometimes the objectives aren't always so mandatory, Nightfall being a good example. "Defend the civilians" - skip. "Clear the Covenant defense" and "Defend Jun" - skip.

It may be entirely possible that in other levels you can simply ignore the objective and continue on. In New Alexandria, when I didn't kill the Brutes in a side-mission fast enough, Kat told me I was too late...had I not been killed shortly after by a Shade turret, perhaps she would have directed me to the next jammer, which would mean that side-missions where you need to assist some allies can be ignored.

In regards to the Forklift bridge, I highly recommend killing the Grunts after dealing with the Elite. I was in a party with Matlcan, and it seems as though Jun likes to star taking pop shots when you meander too far ahead.

Best to clear what you can before moving forward. It'll make your life a little less crazy when trying to perform the trick at the gate.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

Jun got me killed by alerting the Covies to my forky sneak attack. :-(
I wish he would just not fire until I fired. ie: Let me be stealthy.

Yeah. In my video, after failing for three minutes trying to get through the door, the grunts on the tower started to shoot me. I almost died.

But thanks to Legendary smile, I finished the level in eleven minutes :).

And to those who think the timekeeping for Halo: Reach stats is weird: I think the reason for this is that while saved films don't realize that you're pausing, Xbox Live sees you playing a certain level for two hours, despite being paused. The Halo: Reach stats just reflect what an outside observer would see.

She only says those lines when the enemies in question are dead. They still have to be vanquished one way or another. You just don't have to get the optimal outcome (all the troopers survive).

In my run for example, I got the 3 snipers pinning down the squad of marines, they died pretty quick. But she didn't say 'they're dead, move on' until I'd killed the jackals. Even though the troopers die much before that. The next objective (jammer) won't spawn (or, let you inside that is) until the side-missions are 'done'. Whatever the result.

EDIT:

Of course not. That would helpful. I still think the best stealthy sniper mission I've seen was that one in COD4. Jun is way too gung-ho for what is a supposedly a stealthy recon op.

Yeah, thats what I figured. Its still a stupid way to do it. Why make it completely useless to every community that cares about the time stamps at all? Especially after it being great for 3 games!

I made an interesting find on Exodus that I believe will (hopefully) reduce the risk of running to the button without clearing the area. While doing so I also had a realization. It seems like you cannot assassinate a Brute Chieftain if he is aware that you're there. I.E. a Hammer Chieftain spots you, swings at you but you get behind him, your back attack is not an assassination...but if he never spots you, then it's fair game. I think this applies to all Brutes, although the Brutes with hostages are a special exception.

It seems everyone is giving tips to the community. Let me think of something...

Oh, ok. In Tip of the Spear, after getting the revenant after killing the zealot (will he eventually GTFO if you let him like the achievement suggests?), when you reach the next AA gun, go right and run over the jackals. You can jump up the tiny hill on which the gun sits using the revenant and a jumping stool. After that, kill the wraith with the revenant mortars while they're distracted by the group of reinforcements. After killing the AA gun, use your plasma launcher (it was lying on the ground before the revenant) on a hunter until you run out of ammo. It probably won't kill him, but near the dead falcon and the health pack, there's another full one in a crate. That should finish the job.

I cleared the spire first try on Mythic minus Blind and Iron. When I saw the sword elite, I used the "mash the plasma pistol trigger until you get RSI" strategy. That seemed to work.

I'm just hoping it wasn't a fluke.

Also, thanks for telling me where the forklift was RC Master. God, I'm so blind. I've played that level maybe twenty times and never noticed it. I feel like an idiot now.

No offense Tyrant, but it's not the same as...as...FRONT PAGE LOVE. Oh well.

I watched your Nightfall run, nice job. You could've shaved some time off your run if you had taken the left path instead of the right one when Jun says, "GUNFIRE! Magnums...security sidearms."

After hearing Legendary smile's advice, I tried that level and didn't die once. This is going smoothly...so far.

I did mention that it was Legendary Smile's find in the forum post, and linked to his original film. But I guess the main attraction was was the little clip I'd already rendered, and seeing the entire run put together.

Which, thanks to a kind HBO forum member, is now rendered in HD.

Theres a certain section of the hill that you can use the boost on the revenant or Ghost to get up. No need to go on foot.

Thats what I did. I used the jetpack to get up and away from his swipes.

Also, Zealot Elite? I never saw one on that level. /hint.

You guys are probably frustrated with all the vague hints, lol :P

I'm going back to Uni today, and associated studying starts Monday, so my game time will be severely reduced, and I may not get to complete any more levels until December. When I get time, I'll write up all I know about Mythic-ing Reach. Specifically: New Alexandria, Tip of the Spear, and a few tricks on PoA to finish up.
