Halo Reach 2/3rds of the way mythic conqueror (6/9)

Posted by: Michael_Archer
AlpineFroggy, I find that practicing with only twelve skulls on is very different than Mythic. In Mythic, there's a huge stress factor and that means a higher chance of human error. When you play with twelve skulls on, you subconsciously don't care about dying since you'll know that you'll just revert to the last checkpoint.

I'm not saying don't practice; I'm saying don't let practice give you a false sense of ease. I did and I only got more frustrated at the levels.

Thanks Archer, I do understand and thanks for reminding me of this and I do agree deeply. For Exodus I practiced and practiced but I was so nervous the minute I got to the landing pad all the way to pressing the button at the end. I guess these practice runs with twelve skulls only allow to get down stategies not the what the actual mythic run feels like.

UPDATE 10/8/2010: As of today, the Mythic community has collectively conquered the entire campaign on Mythic Difficulty! Proof that the feat can indeed be accomplished! Or as Sgt. Johnson would say, "It's tough, but it ain't invincible!" Well done, community. Well done.

Reach is here, folks, so if you're like me and Legendary might not have seemed quite hard enough, you may be looking for a more challenging experience. So, after you've maxed out your campaign fun, are you ready to up your game to the next level?

With both the Halo 3 Mythic Guide and the Halo 3: ODST Mythic Guide now complete, it's now time to begin work on Reach. I will be posting my progress daily as to what the status is on my Mythic progress through the game right up until it's complete. Our current goal is to have the walkthrough released by the end of the year.

But having playing Firefight first hand at PAX in Seattle this past year, I can tell you that Mythic in Reach will be unlike anything you've ever experienced before. Not only has Bungie thrown Elites into the mix, but the AI is now smarter than ever and won't take being conquered laying down anymore.

As before, this will serve as a progress/help threat up until the walkthrough makes it to the masses, at which point this will thread will be here strictly for aiding others in their own quest for Mythic. Godspeed to all of you who embark on his/her own journey!

If sifting through pages and pages of forum conversation to simply find a few pointers isn't your thing, then please feel free to check out Tyrant's Tweets strictly dedicated to the Mythic experience. Count on a new Mythic/campaign tip being posted daily.

So, without further ado, I now officially begin the quest for Mythic Reach. Game on, fellow fans!

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use Caps Lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single Bob alive."

Hmm, what's the fuzz about mythic? I've done it, with multiple skulls turned on in co-op. But I guess one have to do it in single mode to make it count? Otherwise I'll invite my friend over and upload the proof.

If I recall correctly, I did it in co-op with thunderstorm, mythic, famine, Tough Luck, catch, fog and tilt.
Sure, it took the whole day, but it was really fun. Bunked up on red bull, crisps, pizza and cola and had a great time.

So my question is, does it count with co-op or do I have to do it as a single player.

Fifth Halo: Reach Mythic Conqueror

LOL, "I did mythic with multiple skulls no co-op."

No, Mythic is every single freaking skull turned on with no deaths in one sitting.

There's co-op Mythic (no one can die in one sitting) and solo Mythic (you can't die in one sitting). I think the former is harder.

Yes, I read it now. Sounds like a true challange! I'll try to hook up some friends and try it out. Thought mythic meant "mythic skull turned on". :D

But that isn't the case. Seems like I have a new goal then.

To be on the list of conquerors, you must complete the campaign solo mythic. That said, a co-op mythic completion will certainly earn you an honorable mention.

For New alexandira and playing it with 11 skulls on. I tried hijacking a banshee but never could seem to. Is there a special way? Or is it just luck? This would make my run very easy.

Secondly for nightfall the fork lift glitch only seems to work occasionally is there some area on the gate that speccifically allows you to go through it?

I usually use the plasma pistol or jetpack on the rooftop as the banshees fly overhead to jack one.

For Nightfall, you want to try to position yourself so when you come out you are moving between the two sides of the gate. You basically slip through between them.

When you need someone who is at least half-decent at Halo, I'm your guy.

Best I can think of is to wait behind the invulnerable allies (they don't even get knocked over, shields are just for looks), then shoot someone in the head with a precision weapon.

Agreed with Nightfall. One thing that might help when you're getting in and out of the forklift near the gate is to closely watch the positioning of your spartan model relative to the vertical seam in the gate, specifically as you're transitioning from the 3rd person view back to 1st peron.

While this is happening, you'll get a good look at where your character is lined up with the seam in the gate after exiting the forklift. If you don't make it through, watch which side of the seam he lands on and then adjust the forklift accordingly on the next attempt.

The exit path the character takes from the forklift can be a bit misleading at times (though it's the same every time, of course). It might look like you're lined up perfectly with the seam in the gate and then you exit and don't make it through, but if you're closely watching what side of the seam the spartan model contacts when exiting the forklift, you should be able to adjust your positioning pretty easily and make it through.

Essentially, trust the view you get when going from 3rd-->1st person in terms of your positioning relative to the seam and use that as your benchmark for adjustment.

You would think so, but it doesn't really work that way. Lag alone is too big a factor that you don't have to worry about with mythic.

Cool package with 12 skulls. No deaths and at last battle.

Not accounting human error under stress of trying to not die during mythic run.

So after finishing the package (12 skulls), it is easy and I died in two stupid deaths of the same kind. While trying to hijack wraith in last wave. Wraith mortered me while on it because of shooting at an odd angle. Next time I won't bother even if my wraith took some damage which was the case with the original. I will try on friday for mythic package.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more, really. The two skillsets have surprisingly little correlation with each other. Multiplayer is a completely different animal mostly due to its more fluid and unscripted nature relative to the campaign.

Variation certainly does exist in the campaign, but there are a lot of other factors in play that end up determining the overall outcome of a multiplayer match (though some of these admittedly overlap with what you need to succeed in the campaign and in Mythic specifically).

The real challenge of Mythic is that it systematically removes most of the crutches your typical Halo player has come to rely on and expect over the past 10 years (I say most, not all, because some game mechanics remain unchanged, like one round to the head from the sniper rifle instantly killing an unshielded enemy, but many are tweaked).

But when you jump back into multiplayer, all the crutches are there whether you want them or not. Your success in Mythic will depend on your ability to compensate for those altered gameplay mechanics as well as use an effective strategy to get through the missions, some of which will play so differently when compared to plain old legendary that they'll almost be unrecognizable in terms of what they throw at you.

On mythic there are also no second chances. You die that's it. It also is much more difficult to sucessfully do all the missions. The patience needed for it is just really amazing. Some will spend 3 hours on one mission to make sure they complete it.

This is total suicide!!!!!!if you cant survive legendary without getting killed why would you create mythic difficulty. imagine the grunts since it includes LASO.i cant believe people want another super hard hardcore mode.

Which is another reason it's very different from Matchmaking. With matchmaking, you're more willing to take risks and take chances to die because you just come right back, which makes the whole mentality behind it different.

I had the most epic survival of my life in Campaign recently and I know you guys will appreciate how damn lucky I was to be alive. Running PoA for the Daily Challenge L.D. Pillar (Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt, and Tough Luck on) with a friend, I tried skipping the hunter section....

OOPS, the hunters still spawned!! So I tried turning around, only to face a Dual Wielder and Concussion Ultra, then all hell broke loose and you have to fricking watch this escape.

Close enough to Mythic so it's relevant and hopefully you'll feel the blood pumping through my veins as this unraveled on my screen.

Very nicely done. Great use of the needle rifle to stall and divert the elites to keep them constantly evading or armor-locking.

Did your co-op partner have the drop shield? I know most people will take it with them from where you pick it up just before entering Boneyard 1 and keep it through the rest of the mission. It's funny you happened to have sprint equipped, because without it, I don't think there's anyway you would have been able to survive that situation.

It's a great example of how the skulls force you to think on your feet and adapt and change the way you approach missions. It's what makes Mythic fun to play (or at the very least turning on a bunch of skulls when you don't feel like putting up with the stress of full-on Mythic runs), and the lulz make it fun as well, as long as they don't happen at terrible times.

A personal favorite lolcat of mine: the beginning of Tip of The Spear, took out both turrets, hopped over the guardrail, and began sprinting along the left hand side and jumping (to create a parabolic path to dodge enemy fire) over to the drop zone for the rocket hog. Suddenly, I die, but no one's near me and the controller hasn't vibrated so I know I haven't taken any fire.

Upon further review via replay, I discovered that I actually jumped into one of the spinning rotors on a random Falcon that had been shot down but not completely destroyed, so it was just sitting there stuck up against the guardrail. I just laughed since I had only spent a few minutes playing at that point, but if something highly unusual like that had happened after I had invested significantly more time in the mission, I think it's safe to say my reaction would have been much different.
