Just a quick Lone Wolf challenge I thought would be fun. Thought I'd share it with some Campaign pros.

Interesting, maybe I'll break my month long hiatus from Reach with this. Are you the only one running that channel Dark? You've got a fair few uploads, I gather with that PVR of yours you got a while back?

Not just me, I do majority of the Reach videos. For example, the early Reach videos I didn't record, even my early Mythic ones were not me. I have a few IRL friends back in England doing other videos for it.

I take it you use a capture card? If so, what are your capture settings and upload settings? I'm getting into that too. Your videos are better visual quality than mine.

I finally got my capture system set up! Check this out...

Black Magic Intensity Shuttle with HDMI into a 23" ASUS Monitor, USB 3.0 into an MSI GE620 laptop connected to a 2TB external hard drive, and HDMI into the Xbox 360. Turtle Beach X11 with audio into the monitor and out into the laptop. Video captured at 720p59.54 Compressed without dropped frames. Xbox 360 audio set to Digital Stereo while my audio is recorded separately by Audacity.

If it sounds insane, it's because it is. But it finally works! If anyone has any questions with setting up capture devices, I now know a bit about the tech and troubleshooting and would be glad to help.

P.S. Bye Gazas!

Tyrant, thanks much for your Reach Legendary vids - they helped me part in beating the Campaign on Solo some time ago, I didnt know of such easy glitches, or shortcuts before then =D.

So now I'm onto Halo 3 Legendary, and I look forward to your upcoming Legendary guide on that!

Wow. That sounds a LOT like my setup. In fact, my laptop is a MSI GT683r, so it's in the same family. We, however, were unable to get it to operate. The television I'm using is a 47" Sceptre. The capture card is a BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle.

I started by running the HDMI cable from the Xbox to a splitter. Then the splitter branched off to the TV and the capture card. The capture card was connected to the laptop via USB 3.0. The TV would display, and every time I would restart the computer, the TV would even "blink" as if reacting to the laptop, but when I load up Media Express, it says "No Remote". I made sure the Xbox was set to 720p and the Capture rate was set to 720p (59.something) frame capture, but nothing. Toyed with various settings. Even cut out the splitter and plugged the Xbox directly into the capture card's INPUT and the OUTPUT went straight to the TV. That time, neither the TV nor the laptop could get a picture.

Not sure what to try at this point. Any suggestions?

The capture card was connected to the laptop via USB 3.0.

Maybe this is a stupid question but are you sure you've plugged it into the right socket? I'm looking at the stats and it says only 2 (of the 4?) USB ports are USB 3.0

Yup. The USB 3.0 sockets are marked with SS as well as the cable that connects from the capture card. They're also a different color.

How do you more aggresivelly approach hanger battle 2? However I don't want it to be too risky. For some reason the comms room was what killed me the most. 5 deaths.

I'm confused. What's the point of using the capture card as the middle man? Why don't you just plug the Xbox into the TV directly? I assume you tried this to test to see if there's a problem with your capture card. I didn't even know that a capture card COULD output to the TV; mine can only output to computers via USB or FireWire..

Suggestion: Plug your Xbox into the TV as normal. Take an HDMI cable that has the red, blue and green on BOTH ends (hell, take ANY cable that fits in those plugs); plug one end into your TV's HDMI VIDEO OUTPUT and the other end into your capture card's HDMI INPUT--do the same for the TV's AUDIO OUTPUT and the capture card's AUDIO INPUT. Plug your capture card into the computer. This setup has the capture card record what the TV sees, rather than having the TV display what the capture card sees.

You don't need to buy specialty cables or anything; just make sure the cables fit snugly into those little holes and run the TV's OUTPUT into the respective INPUT slot on the capture card.

The only problem I can see with this setup is that I've never seen a TV have an HDMI OUTPUT; if yours does, I can't see any problem arising.

Yeah, generally televisions don't have output ports. It's pretty much standard that it would run through the capture card before going to the TV for this reason. The only other option is using a splitter to send the signal to both the TV and the card, rather than sending a signal through the card to the TV.

My first attempt was having an HDMI cable go from the xbox to the splitter, then branched out to both the tv and the capture card. The second attempt was from the xbox to the capture card to the tv. Neither method worked...

Could be wrong (I'm not a technician) but it's possible that the splitter "scrambles" both signals. I used to have a red, yellow and white cable and on the other end split into an AV jack for the Xbox, Gamecube and PS2. If I plugged my Gamecube and Xbox into that at the same time, the image would be distorted. I think something similar is happening here.

My old TV had an OUTPUT jack; the capture card recorded whatever showed on the TV. This was cool, since this meant that my capture card was only limited to what the TV could show (pretty much limitless) and not limited to only what I could plug into the capture card itself.

Tyrant, you should see if your TV has an output AV slots.

EDIT: This is all speculation, if you haven't gathered. I mean, it's true that my TV had standard definition output jacks and I ran cords from those to my capture card and it worked fine, but the splitter interfering with the signals is purely speculation.

Yeah, generally televisions don't have output ports.

See, I find this hard to believe. TV outputs are extremely practical and both my TV from around 2001 and my plasma from 2006 had output jacks. The former did not have HDMI output and I'm not too sure about the latter.

Can't hurt to check, Tyrant.

Michael, I figured it out. It wasn't port related, but rather the order I was installing the BlackMagic items on my computer. Stupid, I know. Extensive research allowed me to crack the mystery, but BlackMagic really needs to get their act together and make their product a little more user friendly. What I went through amounted to nothing more than sheer laziness on their end.

But again, a special thanks goes out to the donor for reaching out to our community. Now we have lots of goodies coming soon to the Tyrant channel :-)

run through the RIGHT door and simply bypass the Elites. Then just assassinate the ones in the cannon room. Yes, the two Ultras in the hangar will be there when you return, but they'll have their backs to you.

Sorry, we've been neglecting you! I can feel your exasperation in your post.

I'm not sure what battle you're talking about; do you mean the pelican room battle? The turret seems like the best method, but it's certainly the slowest. My run has an aggressive method, but it's very dangerous and doesn't work a lot of the time.

  • 08.23.2011 8:42 PM PDT

Halo Reach 2/3rds of the way mythic conqueror (6/9)

It's particularly the battle with 4 grunts and 2 ultras. By the way the method tyrant mentioned doesn't work because the elites chase me down the hall producing a lot of noise alerting the cannon room.

For the end battle Ill take the mannly way. The pelican gun.

  • 08.23.2011 9:12 PM PDT

There really isn't such a thing as an "aggressive" strategy that is "safe" (except maybe using the pelican gun, but even that is limited and more of a glitch than anything else).

That said, going in the RIGHT door should allow you to get the drop on the elites for the most part. If you're quick (and lucky) you should be able to back-tap both of them with a little circle-strafing, then just go on to the cannon room (the marines and grunts should be occupying each other, giving you enough time to clear the cannon room).

Click. I tried running straight past them myself; didn't like that they were still there on the way back. I don't find doing the double tap too difficult: they often rage when you get that close that fast which gives you a couple of seconds.

  • 08.24.2011 3:18 AM PDT

I'm about as slightly above average as you can get.

Not sure if already found, but in cruellegaceys video, he used the warthog turreet to take out the first tyrant gun in tots. Seems like it was faster than the revenant..

Halo Reach 2/3rds of the way mythic conqueror (6/9)

Its easy actually. High repeatablility. Only once when I didn't rush did I die. Sometimes it takes a little moving around and skill but the cannon room becomes really easy.
