Unfortunately I was not able to kill the fuel rod field Marshall so I'm kind of sandwiched between the phantoms and him.

That's not good if he's still alive; seriously diminishes your chances of getting off both rounds in the MD.

I was thinking that maybe he should try melee-ing him to get his shields back.

He would need to be careful, though, and time his punches right.

He could melee the FM for full shields and headshot/assassinate him to finish him off.

He would have to be quick if he's already triggered the Phantoms and the Cruiser to move into position.

i dont think you need the blind skull, cuz when you go to the challenge menu, and press "go to appropriate lobby(or something like that)" it will go to the campaign lobby, with the mission, legendary difficulty, and all skulls except the blind skull.

GT: RIFFMASTERC

Just curious, has anyone thought to take a Rocket Launcher to the drop Ship section (juggling it with a DMR & Needle Rifle) and then giving it to one of the Marines? I've used the Marines on Exodus in the Warthog with the RL or FR and was able to take out the Wraiths, Brutes & other ground troops, and even the Chieftains pretty easily while driving the Hog since the AI always locks on. It works well against the Chieftains if you drive up the back steps before hitting the last turret switch so that they come out of the door into the hall and you then can have you hog's gunner and passenger take them out easily. This might be useful for those of us that can't seem to get the CR jump to the Mass Driver to work.

The only problem is, the Marines are on foot and not in a hog this time.

When on foot, they're easily killable. When you're in a Warthog, Marines are much easier to keep alive for obvious reasons. When they're by themselves, regardless of what weapon they hold, they're just meat. Remember, we're talking about LASO here, not Easy difficulty. They might be able to take out a few Brutes, but, it's not worthing juggling three weapons over. You'd have to juggle those three weapons ALL mission long just for a Marine AI to kill 2-3 Brutes maximum. It's ultimately not worth it.

I just used a DMR/NR on the platform, and it wasn't too bad. Once the NR ammo runs out, grab a PP, and the remaining enemies shouldn't give you too much of a hard time.

GUH...I was SOOOOOO close to beating the Zealot room and mass driver sequence with ZERO deaths. I did a combination of Tyrant's "scare em to the top floor" method and the "pick em off from the stairs" method. Killed ALL 4 Zealots first go.

Went out, got the Hologram, waited, sent out the hologram, jumped in, got off the first shot with a PECK at my shields. Before I can start to recharge, a BANSHEE BOMB hits me perfectly. I've never, EEEEEEEVAAAAR been killed by a banshee bomb in the Mass driver. OOH, I was so upset.

2nd attempt...well, since when can't mac rounds go through banshees and hit another target? Banshee screws me again. Got off two shots, first one hit a banshee which was right in front of the glassing port...didn't count. :-/

Got it the third try without my shields popping. The hologram REALLLY comes in handy. I'd recommend adding a little * on your HBO page, Tyrant. :)

That's the randomness factor filtering its way through.

Do you know how many times RC and Tyrant, for example, have had to redo their runs because of it?

Oh, sure. Its just never happened to me on my twenty or so attempts at the Mass Driver stage. Phantom fire ALWAYS killed me. I don't even think I remember seeing a banshee bomb in previous attempts.

Fun before Victory.

Am I the only person who intends, going into that section, to just man the gun? I even have a plan, which partly includes keeping two Zealots alive in the hopes the overhead Phantom will hold it's fire briefly to avoid hitting them.
1: Nail the first two Phantoms.
2: Nail the overhead Phantom.
3: Nail three ships. Treat Banshees as a primary target.
4: Repeat steps 2-3 in that order until the chance to fire at the cruiser appears.
5: Fire at the cruiser twice.

Mind you, I'm mainly intending to man the gun because luck spat in my face during my attempts at the coin toss the last time this weekly appeared and during my recent Exodus runs. Manning the gun with knowledge of how the attacking ships arrive puts the mission in my hands and not in Lady Luck's.

It's far easier to just kill all of the Zealots and then wait for the Cruiser to move into position, IMHO, but do what's best for you, by all means.

I personally find just manning the gun easier. I've done it before during a Non-Mythic run whereas the coin-toss has never landed on heads for me. Luck will decide if the overhead Phantom will open fire before I can hit it, but that's all and that one Phantom's not likely to take me out on it's own.

Impressive run, I liked the way you boosted up to the mass driver in the elite room. Pretty clever stuff

Way too cool. I was impressed from start to finished; you make it look too easy!

BAH-WEEP-GRANA-WEEP-NINI-BONG?

Alright, what am I doing wrong here? I cannot for the life of my Spartan make the jump onto the upper catwalks (right before it despawn's the Hunters). I've watched several videos on the LASO run, I'm using the drop shield for cover but I can't get over the lip of the catwalk.

is it a crouch jump? Some kind of double-bounce, or regular jump then crouch at the lip? I've been working on this stupid part for an hour and can't get the damn jump.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have toggle crouch on? The jump is next to impossible with it on. Stand on the highest point of the pipe, jump straight up, crouch and move onto the ledge.

/feels like broken record

BAH-WEEP-GRANA-WEEP-NINI-BONG?

I tried turning off toggle crouch before but it didn't seem to help. So you're suggesting I have it on, jump off the highest beam straight up, crouch in jump and move onto the catwalk? you guys make it sound so easy.

Thanks for the tip, but I wasn't going to browse 221 pages to see if someone's asked this already.

Hehehe, you know the rules Eli, all or nothing with Mythic.

On SLASO related news, I've set up all my skull profiles in Halo 2 and have been attempting Outskirts and Uprising to start with. Outskirts is easy until you need to grab a ghost and boost for dear life across the beach, then it's merely a bit of patience and luck whilst inside the highway tunnel. Uprising on the other hand is proving a total pain due to the Armory aka "That's just... wrong" skull (enemies are uber alert) + brutes + close quarters situations you're practically stuck with the entire level.

Not to say it's not fun, I'm loving the challenge and all, but it's definitely not for the light-hearted. It is after all Halo 2 and it is -blam!-ing difficult with all skulls.
