On TotS, at the very end, I noticed that everyone lures the elite out, and kills the grunts, etc.

However, I have a question.

On "The Spire" on Invasion, you can jump THROUGH the screen which houses the data core. I am wondering if you can go behind the same screen, jump in, and push the button before drawing notice to yourself, such as the way you push the button on Exodus at the end.

You can't, it doesn't work. I tried it myself multiple times ages ago.

Originally I killed the Elite so I could drop off the Revenant, then backtrack to get the Ghost too, but you can just easily skip the Elite and Ghost retrieval and stick with the Revenant.

I'll try that on my next run.

Btw, it is 4 in the morning. what are you doing up?

I work the graveyard shift, so I'm up all night at least three nights a week :-P

Graveyard? What do you do?

As it turns out right now, I haven't made it through the space battle without actually crashing my Sabre and dying on my practice runs. Think it's time to bump this up to Mythic.

I'm a little concerned about the state of Mythic in Reach. *shakes head*

How so?

Too many skips and exploits for Vincent's tastes I'm guessing :/

But hey, I'll do score runs later...

The Package has been redone in roughly 45 minutes.

Before, it took me about two hours. This cuts the time down considerably and puts you on the offensive for the last battle. Enjoy!

Cool. This should help with the Package, I'm gonna try and do it today :)

just have [..] manage to pull off 2 shots with the Mass Driver...

I'm assuming you know of the hologram trick, right? It makes the whole place way easier.

Wait... can you...? Can you use the Hologram to distract the Phantoms and Banshees to give yourself extra time on the mass driver?

EDIT:
Posted by: AuraSoldier313
- send out a decoy hologram when you are told to fire, it can attract the enemies attention for a precious few seconds

Oh cool. I wonder if dropping the holo inside a drop shield would give you some extra seconds...

Nope, they're solid windows. Both between the lift room and the control switch, and the control switch and the outside.

You also cannot hit the button until the Elite and all the Grunts are dead anyway. There was a funny moment in campaign matchmaking last night where some idiot repeatedly kept running in there trying to hit it, and dying, of course.

Fun fact though: On 4P co-op, there are 2 Concussion Rifle Ultras in there instead of the sword elite, and there is a Engineer in there too!

Just did some Campaign matchmaking. My teammates ruined everything I wanted to do. I patiently waited for the Wraith on the Package. Of course, this was under the assumption they wouldn't somehow die (which they did) and so they started respawning next to me and nuked the Wraith once it came down.

So I decided I'd help out with the Banshee. Ha ha...no. All 4 jetpacks were missing. Apparently they decided to take them and go die and then take the last one. *face-palm*

Haha, I know what you mean. I got into a legendary game of PoA and I was doing my usual run along assassinate concussion rifle elite thing when lo and behold, my team decides to barge in guns blazing. Needless to say, with the lag I died, and so did my team mates...multiple times.

1 guy quit soon after I sped ahead in the mongoose past the scarabs and destroyed the wraith with some rockets. When we got to boneyard though, things got interesting. We mopped up all the drones and the like and got to the first encounter with the elites. I double-back to despawn the elites to make it easier on the other 2 guys and when I trigger the load zone and they get warped back to me, whoo boy were there some agitated yells through my mic. In the end we got up to the shade turrets and it seemed that I was the only one smart enough to grab the laser. After the 2 died around 3 times each, there was a bit of lag, they quit and I'm left there thinking 'Why did I even bother?'

And to RC's comment earlier about the hologram trick, that little decoy is not the same trick I'm talking about. I was referring to the thing Legendary smile did to kill the elites. Some may refer to it as a tactic or whatever, but I like to call it a trick.

So what kind of trick is it then?

You go into the room immediately on your left as you enter, jump onto the shelves that are running along the wall on your right, and you send out the hologram just a bit past the door so the elites will rage, come in and go for the hologram, whilst you whack em and book it out of there. It works surprisingly well but your timing has to be very good, otherwise you'll be backpedalling and throwing grenades at your alien assailants.

  • 10.16.2010 8:26 AM PDT

I prefer hiding by the barrels, but I've used those shelves much the same. It is kind of funny how many Elites you can lure to their death with a Hologram. You think they'd realize it's a trap when there are several bodies laying there...

I now have LNoS down, just died on second visit to Turret Control Room by the Elite.
Should have it done by today!

Also accidently shot in the Bridge, so I had to kill the whole crew which took me about thirty minutes, lol.

Good luck with that, the turret control room is a major pain a lot of the time.

Also, 30 minutes to kill the brige crew? It took me 5 at most.

3 needles to a grunt - 4 grunts, 4 times.
Rapid pp fire to take away camo elites shields, 1 headshot - 3 elites, 3 times.
Play hide and seek with the general by getting him to crouch and hide behind the pillar behind the hologram. Sneak around and assassinate, easy as.

Exploit is a very strong word, but it's right on the money. Wikipedia's entry for exploit

Skips are fine, but I usually thinking of "skipping" as in running past/avoiding the enemies (risk is involved, is it not?). Clipping through a wall (or gate, in this case) so I don't have to play the most difficult part of the level isn't exactly what I think of as skipping. Essentially the whole thing just was a giant dump on all the effort I had put in to my run. Same thing with ONI Sword Base, people are just removing the most difficult enemies from the equation by skipping their spawn.

I'd almost be for creating a secondary Reach Mythic list that has a few additions to the list of no-no's.

No it's not. Aren't you guys listening to me? The turret control is one of the easiest encounters in that level. HERE'S HOW YOU BEAT IT (with drop shield):

1. Kill the two ultras there by melee dancing with them. If you don't know how to do that, learn. It's a really useful skill. If the elite manning the cannon is on the farthest left one, go for him first. If not, kill the elite hanging out by the servers.

2. Before you enter the bridge, knock a crate in front of the door where the enemies spawn. That should slow them down. If you're facing the door, try to knock it more to the left, so they'll run away from the ramp.

3. This is optional. There's another purple crate near the door to the bridge. Knock it closer to the servers. You don't have to do this, but it makes it a bit easier.

4. After clearing the bridge and refueling the corvette, kill the squad that rushes the door. I'm assuming the elite will get away. If not, this is a lot easier.

5. When you come back to the cannon room, immediately jump on that crate, then onto the server, then onto the platform that leads to the door back to the hangar. While you're running, throw some grenades near the door to discourage elites from going in front of it.

6. When the elites start firing at you, keep running to the door and needle rifle them. This will cause them to evade, taking some of the fire off you.

7. While you wait for the door to open, deploy your drop shield. Be careful! If you do it too far to the left, the elites will run up and throw grenades at you between the shield and the door.

This does work with no shields.

Aura, I'll try your general strategy, but I don't know how easy that will be. That guy is way too jumpy. The only reason I killed him on my run when I died on the last two elites (god dammit) was because for some reason he was stunned by my awesomeness and he let me shoot him while we both stood way out in the open.

17th Mythic Conqueror of Halo 3.
5th Mythic Conqueror of ODST.
If you would like to know more about Mythic difficulty please go to this thread. Thank you.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

I haven't seen the Sword Base skip, but the Forklift and gate thing has been around since Halo CE. People have always used vehicles to get through thin barriers or launch themselves to ridiculous places if speedrunning or just exploring.

Also, that last battle on Nightfall really just looks time consuming more than anything else. I have no doubts that everyone who used the skip method could have fought those battles and still come out on top. But while there's an almost race like fervour to get the first few spots on the list than people will take shortcuts. It's just human nature.

The level is overflowing with needle rifles. There's a crate in the comms room, there's a crate on either side of the hologram powerup in the hangar, crates in the corner of the hangar, a crate in the room where the two elites come out when that marine says "got plenty of arms and ammo." and to top it off, there's a crate in the bridge itself.

So I would call that MEGA fail, jew man man. LOL.
