Also, is it just me or does the jetpack sometimes either give out a little too early or not always reach max height? I've made note of a few occasions where there are a couple of jumps I can usually make, but other times it's as if the jetpack hits some sort of invisible ceiling.

I had the same problem on exodus. It's such a *facepalm* moment when you go underneath the platforms and at the last jump you go up and die because the jetpack was lazy :~(

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Yeah, I'm still not sure I get that entirely. I realize that jumping gives you extra lift, but sometimes it doesn't. I've timed a full jetpack to work for about 4 seconds with a 6 second recharge time. But sometimes it loses altitude before it hits that 4 second mark.

Ive had that happen a lot on Exodus. I know your max height is cut if your head hits something on the way up, but Ive been having it happen without hitting anything.

Other than that, though, the missing really doesn't seem like it would be that difficult. The last skirmish might be a bit tricky, but the rest seems pretty straight forward. I've found some really great ways to kill the hammer captains without them threatening me, and even ammo conservation isn't a problem anymore.

Mythic Difficulty = Legendary + ALL SKULLS ON + zero deaths

UPDATE 10/17/2010

I've finally established a Youtube channel under my Twitter name "MythicTyrant". Yes, it's currently blank, but the plan is to eventually upload all the videos from my Halo 3 Mythic 2.0 runs, Mythic ODST, and Mythic Reach.

To help out HBO a bit, I'm going to leave narration out of the official guide which will be posted on HBO, but will include narration on the YouTube videos.

UPDATE 10/8/2010: As of today, the Mythic community has collectively conquered the entire campaign on Mythic Difficulty! Proof that the feat can indeed be accomplished! Or as Sgt. Johnson would say, "It's tough, but it ain't invincible!" Well done, community. Well done.

Reach is here, folks, so if you're like me and Legendary might not have seemed quite hard enough, you may be looking for a more challenging experience. So, after you've maxed out your campaign fun, are you ready to up your game to the next level?

With both the Halo 3 Mythic Guide and the Halo 3: ODST Mythic Guide now complete, it's now time to begin work on Reach. I will be posting my progress daily as to what the status is on my Mythic progress through the game right up until it's complete. Our current goal is to have the walkthrough released by the end of the year.

But having playing Firefight first hand at PAX in Seattle this past year, I can tell you that Mythic in Reach will be unlike anything you've ever experienced before. Not only has Bungie thrown Elites into the mix, but the AI is now smarter than ever and won't take being conquered laying down anymore.

As before, this will serve as a progress/help threat up until the walkthrough makes it to the masses, at which point this will thread will be here strictly for aiding others in their own quest for Mythic. Godspeed to all of you who embark on his/her own journey!

If sifting through pages and pages of forum conversation to simply find a few pointers isn't your thing, then please feel free to check out Tyrant's Tweets strictly dedicated to the Mythic experience. Count on a new Mythic/campaign tip being posted daily.

So, without further ado, I now officially begin the quest for Mythic Reach. Game on, fellow fans!

Mythic Exodus complete.

Though I'm likely going to redo it for the walkthrough. Everything up until the last area went fairly well, but once again Bungie's famous fail physics engine kicked in and lodged the Wraith. If you look at it's angle, there's no reason why it should have been jammed there, but I spent a good 20 or so minutes trying to get it out, and as a result, I completely lost track of what I was doing.

Bungie, I love you, but seriously, the plastic physics have been fail for the last four games. Please use something other than the BS Valve produced!

Thank you.

I'll probably give PoA a whir tomorrow. I've put it off for a fair while now mainly because I needed a well deserved break from the constant monotony of Mythic.

PoA mainly just got on my nerves and I got tired of getting to the landing pad all the time to end up randomly dying. That and I missed wrecking people in matchmaking with my mates.

Good luck with that! I'm also going to do PoA again on Mythic but without scoring on to make sure there is no Mythic ending.

Legendary smile, either you're a beast, or POA wasn't that bad on Mythic. Or both?

Wraith? How long did you spend in that area?

I finished the level today without Iron with about two deaths. I'll try to tackle this level after school tomorrow.

But seriously, if you're taking the wraith, you're making things a lot harder for yourself. I hope to show you the video soon. A text walkthrough would be a bit beyond my linguistic skills.

EDIT: Tyrant, how many more levels do you have to do? I get the feeling we're pretty even in terms of progression, unless of course you've beaten Long Night of Solace...

So far so good on my current Exodus run. Im at the part I failed at last time. Hopefully my jetpack doesnt crap out on me.

BTW, why are you taking the Wraith Tyrant? You dont need to kill off that many enemies in the last area to need one. Plus there's plenty of ammo in the area to not need it.

While you don't necessarily need the Wraith, I find it much easier to capture the first one and use it to destroy the second Wraith, the nearby Ghost, and the enemies near the furthest switch. I have no intention of killing everything in that area, but it certainly makes short work of those few baddies, plus you become much harder to kill.

I loaded up Rally Point Bravo and was able to conquer that area (with a few of my unmentioned techniques) in a matter of minutes. But you have a bit of a window in order to be able to pull it off. In short, because of the dilemma I ran into during my run, I missed the window and complicated the scenario.

PoA is routine work for me now. Only the hammer and FRG chieftains and the 4 zealots give me some trouble. Or a hidden dmr box which likes to splatter unlucky people :)

Your begging sign could be:

'Will play Mythic for food'

I know where you're coming from with all the studying and stuff too. Year 12 is pretty demanding on me but thankfully all the assessments have died down and I almost never get homework so I can play Reach til my heart's content.

Well, I've got Tip of the Spear down.

I have finalized my analysis on how to despawn the wraiths-

After reaching the Revenant, boost past the first group of enemies, and drop into the canyon. Kill the 3 jackals there (needle rifle makes it easy) and then back up and proceed to launch mortars at the AA gun from the ground beneath the cliff you dropped off of. After it blows up, you'll see a pelican drop off marines. At this moment, move your Revenant to the LEFT of the rocky structure in front of you, until you see your screen show a slight loading screen (your screen will freeze for a second). Then, immediately drive back and go around the RIGHT side of that rocky structure. This will cause the wraiths to despawn. If one of the wraiths (usually the far left one) didn't despawn, simply go back around the rocky structure to the left, and go a bit further that you did before, and then boost back around the right side.

Doing this strategy will rid you of the wraiths, saving you a good bit of time, and saving you the danger they pose.

It is very important to be holding forward and jump when you jetpack to gain maximum height, otherwise, your jetpack will not carry you as high.

The max height you can achieve with the jetpack is linked to the speed you're going at at the time of activation. You can get some pretty crazy height by linking it with grenade jumps or some other launch. For example: some HIH guys used a concussion rifle, a banshee, and a jetpack to launch themselves ONTO one of those frigates that you see in Tip of the Spear.

The activation isn't as simple as you might think though; its not 'jump then immediately activate jetpack', there is a slight pause after you jump which you must wait in order to get maximum height.

I've had a couple of goes at Exodus recently and I'm still getting stupid deaths. Kinda frustrating.

Just so you know, Havok have nothing to do with Valve as far as I know. Also the behaviour is highly customisable and almost entirely up to the design team.

Also: halo 1 physics were awful. 'hogs sliding everywhere, insta-death the moment you touch a friendly with a vehicle. weird bounciness with everything.

Oh, and I 12 skulled New Alexandria (no blind) for fun and did it first try. You guys should try this level, its no where near as frustrating as Exodus :P

Ugh, died at the last area. Sometimes the other wraith likes to come and bug me. This was one of those times. After I pop the gunner, activated my camo then held still, I get a mortar in the face.

Despite this, this seems to me to be one of the easier missions in the campaign.

I have a technique involving the Wraith that makes the last area of Exodus VERY EASY as well as SHORT. The catch, though, is that you have a window of opportunity to execute this tactic and due to the Wraith getting stuck, I missed the window on the run above. I'll try to redo it tonight, but here are some other things I've been doing differently that I haven't seen yet.

During the first major skirmish, right before the Phantoms arrive, I've been grabbing the full Needler from the crate up top and been using it to make short, effortless work of the Hammer Captains. Two straight super-combines and they're dead.

Next, when you meet the Fuel Rod Chieftain, you can actuakly position yourself on the stairs so that you can simply peg him to death with the plasma pistol and he won't move or shoot back. Don't get me wrong. I really like Legendary's method of jumping down with the hammer, but this A) requires you to kill everything else first unless you want to get scarred by plasma, and B) you run the risk of taking a fuel rod at near point blank range.

And thanks for the info regarding Havoc, though it still irritates the sh** out of me :-P

I've been doing that too. Its great for saving ammo, and it allows me to use the needler ammo I gather before there on the brutes in the courtyard. Im surprised nobody has been utilizing that needler in the crate though.

Do amazing in a game of Halo: Reach? Send me the game, I'll turn it into a youtube video!

xD Watching the Exodus video. Curiously, what were you thinking after the Wraith got jammed there? I know my thoughts would be "Great, now I am screwed. Gotta restart..."

  • 10.21.2010 4:18 PM PDT

When the dust settles, you will learn what true terror is.

Me: "Tyrant! Why is hot pockets so delicious?"
Tyrant: "...because I can."

Oh the glory of mythic-time conversations...

Also, on LNoS, I timed the launch sequence unskippable cutscene, and the time right after it before enemies show up, and it adds up to a whopping 2 minutes and 53 seconds. 2 minutes and 53 seconds of wasted time in the middle of the mission (not including the cutscene where Jorge jumps to the Pelican, or the cutscene at the beginning where you jump off the Falcon) that you have to sit through for every attempt... Epic fail.

I REALLY hate that last jump from below the level on Exodus. Either my jet pack doesnt reach max height or the brutes nade spam me while Im still on the support beam.

BTW, where does the focus rifle jackal go after he is dropped off? I cant seem to find him if I dont try to kill him before the 3 grunts to the right.

He's always in either the window, or on the platform above it, directly across the chasm.
