FINALLY! Long Night of Solace has been definitively beaten.

Now, on to Exodus! 5/9 completed!

Nice job. It's good to see this level beaten by other people. I know it gave me trouble. Feels good, doesn't it?

Thanks RC Master and AuraSoldier; you guys have renewed my faith in myself for beating the campaign. I'm just hesitant to download Legendary smile's TWO HOUR video to find out how to deload those parts.

RC Master, either I have to have my laptop by my side so I can read your guide while I'm playing that level, or I have to memorize the locations. The former is good, but I'm screwed if I get a mission you forgot to post. The latter is good if I can pull it off (this won't be hard coming from a guy who's memorized the first names of all the presidents of the United States, the first names of all the Prime Ministers of Canada, the forty-six United States and the four Commonwealths in alphabetical order, and the entire periodic table of elements in no particular order; I've also memorized the ten provinces and three territories of Canada and their capitals, but that's not hard), but in order to do that, I need to first note the locations without the blind skull. This is problematic because the probability of encountering a specified objective on a run is quite small.

The Buck objectives are what bother me the most though, since they're really similar and they spawn all over the place. On one run, I spent a good deal of time following a falcon; after I was killed, I loaded up the theatre film and realized that it wasn't even the right falcon.

Still, I'd take this level over Long Night any day.

I'm back in action. I haven't been keeping up with the thread in the past week (trying to keep my mind off of Reach while unable to play it), so I'm not sure what I've missed. Has Aura finished up yet?

Wraith: Can be despawned and all enemies can be bypassed.
Difficulty: Easy yet time consuming.

Captain Keyes dialog section: All elites can be despawned at both sections of boneyard by backtracking to the loading point before the scarab cutscene, leaving just jackals and grunts.
Difficulty: Easy yet time consuming.

Shade turrets & ghosts: Aforementioned despawning affects these guys too. Shades can be lasered with ease though.
Difficulty: Easy.

Warehouse: Elites can be tricked into moving either into or outside of the warehouse by standing on a particular point of the stairs on the back side of the warehouse. Killing them still requires patience and tact.
Difficulty: Moderately easy to semi-hard depending on luck and whether Emile positions himself well allowing for easy assassinations.

Hunter fight: Hunters can be skipped by going onto the roof and running around the back of the area and crouch jumping through the window.
Difficulty: Easy to downright ridiculous. Depending on Emile's compliance and distracting abilities, getting past the hunters will either be very easy or ridiculously complicated and time consuming.

Sword Elite: Doesn't move up unless you move up first. Won't rage when all jackals are killed either.
Difficulty: Easy, as you can stand on top of a container and he won't be able to get you, thus allowing you to quickly pop his shield with a few pp shots and kill him with a follow-up headshot.

Beyond the aformentioned parts, it comes down to the players own skill and intuitiveness for survival to get past the landing pad and the zealots. There are however tricks to make the battles easier such as making the brutes play Brute n' go Boom! or by using the hologram in tandem with the 'elite rage room' to assassinate the zealots.

Pretty much. I don't even bother despawning anything and it still is all routine. Time to get back to Pillar of Autumn, I guess.

Thank you, sir! You're next to beat the mission, I have faith in you!

Just watched your run and it's given me exactly what I need. You've basically shown me how to break the Elites' AI. :-)

I think Gazas should get more respect for when (yes, when) he beats this level. I believe I was the second person to beat this level? Legendary smile was the first, but he didn't really talk about it that much. Now with General Khazard and jew man man passing him on this, the arguably hardest level in the game, has left him demoralized as shown by his response to General's victory post. Good luck Gazas, you have the hardest mission of all.

  • 10.25.2010 4:25 PM PDT

So, just died on my first run back to Pillar of Autumn and something just feels...off. I constantly found myself feeling like something was different about my controller, that my reactions were slow, or my aim was off (even when it would turn out I was dead-on when I did fire).

It just felt very...autonomous. I don't like that feeling...it's like it's so routine I don't even think about it, but the lack of concern I've noticed is making me take more damage.

Edit: I felt like I couldn't manipulate two analog sticks at the same time...which makes it seem all the more weird to me. My hands just seem a bit slow, probably because I am low on energy. I think I'll hold off on any more Reach until tomorrow when I feel a bit more responsive.

Agreed. Gazas, you've always been supportive of the rest of us in our attempts, successes, and failures. I'm looking forward to congratulating you on your mastery of this, the most challenging of the mythic levels.

I found the entry into the Comms room to be the most iffy part, mainly because I couldn't really get a good strategy down for it. When I got past that, it only took me like 4 or 5 tries to beat the rest.

Boxes and corners. I'll leave it at that for now.

Also I loved the way you went for a full on assassination on the last Elite. Bet you really put some feeling into that one!

@Gazas: Go for it! I'm sure that you can do it. You've certainly had more practice than me, all my knowledge is purely theoretical at this point, I've been asking questions, watching videos and gradually planning my way through the mission but I have yet to really put it into practice as the furthest I've gotten in an actual run was just past the space fight.

Ohhhh, I know what you're talking about now, hehe. Yeah, I've watched other peoples' runs and nobody else did that, so I figured I'd give it a shot and see how it worked out. At the very least, I figured it would give me a semi-safe haven.

As far as the full-on assassination, you have NO idea how good that felt!

I also really liked the way you got on top of the server bank in the cannon room and used the little slit at the bottom of the slanted wall to pop the 2nd Elite.
I felt your bridge section was a bit weak though. That General could have killed you several times if he wasn't so lazy, but I'm not one to comment as I'll probably end up being just as desperate.

And I've gotta say that I laughed when your Plasma Pistol ran outta charge at the end. Watching you book it for the Repeater showed just how nervous you were.

That cannon room slit trick was from Jew Man Man's run, I can't take credit for that. Also, blocking off the door in that room was not an original trick, nor was blocking off the hallway back from the bridge. However, the walling off at the hangar at the end was ALL me. :P

As far as the bridge goes, I probably should not have won that fight with the general. I should have died a number of times (though the needle rifle is GREAT for running from elites, they dodge that thing like it's the plague!) but somehow managed to escape his clutches. Considering that's the second time I've made it to the bridge, and the first time that I didn't die trying to assassinate things, I think I did pretty well. :P

Oh and I booked it to the repeater hoping the elite wouldn't move if I didn't take too long getting a new plasma weapon (but he did). Though, to be honest, I was VERY nervous. Wouldn't you be?

I didn't fully-on assassinate the last elite and that was for a reason. My biggest fear is that the elite will prime a grenade at the last second and will drop it at his feet while I'm assassinating him; I don't think I would've been able to handle that emotionally.

In other news, I completed New Alexandria!

Thanks RC Master! Your guide helped me find the second unmarked objective! Without your guide, I would've probably been chewed up by Banshees looking for it.

I post the link to the video for a number of reasons. Mainly because I'm a conceited bastard who thinks people give a -blam!- about my runs and my awesomeness.

Ostensibly, I post the run because I show a simple, yet surprisingly effective way of dealing with the hospitals Rangers. I also show my fuel rod strategy, but don't look too deeply into that one.

The video includes, literally (yes, literally) the closest call of all time, saved purely by luck. At 10:40 in the video, the Mythic Gods were giving me a second chance; I didn't disappoint them. It's in my competitive nature to ask the community to share (video proof) of a luckier, closer call; I don't believe you guys can.

The luck is shown a bit better if you watch it in first-person.

That must be a horrible feeling; your body isn't doing what you're telling it to do. It's like being sick, but not knowing what's wrong...

God, it would SUCK to have MS.

EDIT: This also was my first game of the day; no warm-ups or anything, just straight to Mythic. Just throwin' that out there...

Partially because I'm a conceited bastard, and in line with our description of the final four elites in LNoS, I compose the following five screenshots depicting their fall from my run. I particularly like how well the descriptions (passages, really) worked out for the last two...

Conquest*
War
Famine
Death
Hell

*for some reason, Conquest is often replaced with Pestilence, which is a misinterpretation of the word Plague, which the fourth horseman, Death, is sometimes referred to. The more you know!

Nice job! I think I'll look forward to that one, it scared me at first, but it seems like people have found easy strategies for it.

And nice GH, I think I'm gonna take screenshots of the Four God Elites of the Apocalypse too when I get to kill them all. I'll probably cut that stuff in the description though, not my thing really. :P

I noticed that I out of nowhere got a sudden amount of supportive comments from you guys on this page, gotta say that I really appreciate it. Good thing I checked the thread before going to bed, because now I may be able to sleep well because of it. Hopefully I'll get this mission done next week when break starts.

Conquest is the same as Death? Man, who would've thought the bible had contradictory statements? The only parts I've read is a bit of Genesis, Exodus and Ezekiel (25:17); interesting stuff! The Old Testament is a lot better than the New in my opinion. New Testament is too melodramatic, but I guess the book of Job balances them out.

On a lighter note, a couple of closing statements before I turn in for tonight:

Once again RC Master, thanks for your guide. I'm sure it will be of great help to future generations like it was to me.

I think it's cute the way Kat says "roentgen".

Tyrant, I thought of a clever thing you can write for the introduction paragraph you can use for the Pillar of Autumn chapter guide. I don't know if you can do strikethroughs on the bungie.net forums, so just imagine them yourself: "Which is where you come in, [strikethrough]Chief[/strikethrough] Noble Six. Get Cortana [strikethrough]off[/strikethrough] on this ship. Keep her safe from the enemy! If they capture her, they'll learn everything: force deployment, weapons research...EARTH.

Well, I thought it was funny.

Good to see so many people are cranky out the levels like wildfire now. It finally seems like we've learned most of Mythic's tricks and we can't be caught by surprise by what the levels throw at us anymore.

I'll be doing PoA this afternoon in a few hours once I get back from school. I'm looking to finally take that s.o.b carrier down for good this time.

Also to Vince, I've had that feeling before. Gameplay wise everything feels alright but it still just feels awry. It's hard to describe but I found it happens to me when I usually lack confidence in my runs. E.g. upon failing at the carrier section the run I did after that just didn't have any 'heart' to it. No drive, no incentive to win, that's what stopped me for a few days. Maybe the new box and the week away from PoA has done the same to you. Or maybe it's something else, I can't really say.

No, they aren't, there's just been a number of misinterpretations from when Death has been referred to as "Plague" in certain translations. For some reason, the majority of people have taken "Pestilence", a synonym for the word "Plague", and replaced Copnquest with it, probably because Conquest is sort of similar to War.

Umm, yeah, there is. He's had videos and game stats for all of his runs posted in this thread, and we've followed his progress as he went through them as well. Believe me, the Mythic community takes the conqueror's list VERY seriously.

Welcome to Mythic! I'd suggest you start with Nightfall, or Winter Contingency, those are both fairly easy starting levels for Mythic, as one of them you can avoid fighting all but a few enemies, and the other you can skip most of the level and just fight out the end.

  • 10.25.2010 9:36 PM PDT

No black and white in the blue.

So I've been playing Sword Base for about 2 weeks and either I do something stupid (e.g. drive my Wraith off a cliff) or the AI screws me over (e.g. a Marine drives my Gauss Hog off a cliff or Kat evades or retreats at extremely inopportune moments). This is only my 3rd Mythic mission (after Winter Contingency and Nightfall), so I guess it's fair that it's beating me around a bit, but I'm still getting frustrated. I can only imagine how long it'll take me to beat Long Night of Solace..... ugh.

Don't get too discouraged, man. Check my, or any of the others' runthrough(s) for ideas, maybe if you try something different, it could be "safer". I know you'll get it done. At least you're not like me in ODST, it took me like 6 months to beat Kizingo Blvd!
