I found a little glitch in exodus: if you hop on one of the falcons that drops you off at the end of the mission, and ride on it until it turns to leave the area, you can skip the trigger that causes wraiths to target you, and the scripted dialogue that plays during this part, you'll have to backtrack to end the mission though, so it takes longer.

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Interesting. Does it despawn the enemies in the area?

I'm bad at this game! Yaaaaaaay!

Me neither.
Then again, you get barely any cR from Living Dead, and that's the only competitive gamemode I play without a party, so yeah... xD
Also, I'm in the middle of downloading the Winter Contingency playthrough. Taken eme half an hour. >.< Oh well, almost done now.

There appear to be less enemies, if you head straight for the launch button, the two chieftains show up, activating the 2 turrets still spawns more enemies. The marines still hop in the warthog and mongoose though.

Definitely my favorite gametype and has been since Halo 3. Glad it finally got it's own playlist so I can play it online more than just once a month :-)

Thanks for the tip :-)

Our biggest problem in the area seems to be the fuel rod Chieftain. I recall reaching the very end of the mission on a near-perfect run, then boosting up to the launch button with my jet pack and meeting him face to face. One fuel rod later, and I'm back at the start.

I used cloak the next time :-P

They show up when you enter the room with the button, so you could ambush them, it's much easier to finish the mission without fuel rods bearing down on you.

They like to patrol both the room and the corridor outside. If I can get up close to either one, I could easily win in a melee dance, but usually when I encounter one, the other comes to aid him. So far the cloaking method as been a win one since it keeps me from having to engage either, but I've heard of a few others who've beaten the mission who were able to get them before hand. I may give that method a go before publishing the official Mythic guide for Exodus or use it as an alternate :-)

My following post details how to get them to show up and finish them off rather easily.

"You saved a lot of lives today, Spartan." And I took my sweet time doing it, too! I only left one survivor: the Plasma Launcher Chieftain. With Exodus down, I now am at 7/9 and have no excuse not to be playing Pillar of Autumn or Long Night of Solace. Not only that, but I can finally start explaining what I've been talking about with the FRG and Hammer Chieftain pair.

Camo beats Wraith...Camo beats Chieftain...Camo beats everything!

After activating the first missile battery and taking out both Wraiths, you might be planning to go for the second. But then what? You're going to roll the dice and see if you can push that button safely? What you should do is head for the button now.

As you should know, the FRG Chieftain and Hammer Chieftain hang out in that building when you go for the button. What you might not have known is that you can get them to show up before activating the second battery, kill them, and save yourself some trouble in the near future.

Let's begin the explanation: from where you drop off in the Falcon and moving up the path, you should be able to see a stairway on the right side of the building near a garage. That's your safest way in, but mind you that there is a Ghost that will take shots at you when you go for it. You can make it there safely with the Mongoose, but you may as well just take the Ghost out before doing it. So once the Wraiths are dead and you have Cloaking, take your Mongoose and cruise up the stairway and carefully move up the next flight of stairs, paying extreme attention to the door immediately in front of you; this is the door they will come through...but only once you advance far enough toward the room with the button. Notice the seven plants on both sides of the doorway? These are what will help you identify how far you need to move to get the Chieftains to enter. Proceed at an angle at the plants on the left until you're just about right up near the middle plant. Right about then, you should hear the door to the right open, as well as the door to the button room. Immediately backpedal to the right of the door and cloak yourself. The Hammer Chieftain will run out first, followed by the FRG Chieftain.

Don't jump the gun, though. Once they exit, they won't necessarily go to the same place every time. Wait to see where they head. Most of the time, the Hammer Chieftain will enter the door to the left of the stairs and the FRG Chieftain will enter the door to the right of the stairs and they will stop inside the button room, looking out at the battlefield. Other times, they will head past the doors and stop there for a few seconds before deciding to go in to the button room, however one of the Chieftains will usually start backpedaling past the doors instead.

Depending on what happens, you might get to assassinate one and then have to find the other in the button room, or you will have to go in after them. Let's discuss their location inside the room. The Hammer Chieftain is to the left of the button and typically will not notice you standing in the doorway, however sometimes he stands right near it, so if the door isn't closing, he's probably standing by it. The FRG Chieftain stands to the right of the button and has two directions he will look in, adjusting every now and then. He is close enough to the door that he will likely spot you if you look in there, so make sure to cloak yourself before you enter.

While cloaked, crouch-walk up behind your intended victim (prioritize FRG Chieftain over Hammer Chieftain) and assassinate them once you feel you're within melee lunge distance (it's further back than you'd think). Now you're no longer cloaked while assassinating them, which is unfortunate, but...the Hammer Chieftain is rarely fast enough to notice. For the most part, by the time you exit the assassination animation, the Hammer Chieftain will be startled and you'll have enough time to start running and firing with a Plasma Pistol (I neglected to mention you should bring one). If you're lucky, though, he may not even notice you when his pal dies and you could potentially cloak and assassinate him, too.

Fighting the Hammer Chieftain is more akin to the earlier tactic we'd use against Halo 3 Chieftains; drop their shields and start going for headshots. Of course, these Chieftains aren't as resilient. Two nearly Frags or two sticks can kill them.

If you'd like to see what I'm talking about in action, you can see it in my Exodus film. With the Chieftains dead, you're free to survey the area and pick off enemies.

Thanks, Vince! I'll give it a go once I have LNoS and NA under my belt. Hopefully that will give me some time before worrying too much about PoA.

What's the fastest time posted for Nightfall Mythic? I did a 4:32 unedited clip, but I skipped cutscenes ASAP. Anyone topped this?

I think it's been done in under 4 minutes. Either 3:09 or 4:09, but I'm not sure which.

On High Speed Halo the fastest time is 3:48.

I've just noticed now then in the second smelting room, the dual plasma rifle elite will just stand in the door war not move even if you shoot him if I kill the first grunt as soon as the door opens. Well, he will move if you move around a bit, which I did to find a plasma pistol. If I could have a plasma pistol beforehand, this might make that fight easier.

Posted by: RC Master
This reminds me: I did once, somehow, skip the spawn for the Hunters, Skirmishers, Jackals, Sword Elite, Ultra and Grunts just beyond the smelting room on PoA, during an attempt at an Easy speedrun. But, as mentioned, it locks the door out of the second, sword elite, smelting room. Which practically ends the mission unless someone can figure out a way through that door without the enemies being there.

Easy. Run through the second smelting room with no enemies, grab ammo, refill on health if you want and then stand next to the door that's supposed to open when you kill the hunters; the enemies will spawn.

Oh wait, you skipped the hunter's spawn? Never mind then. Use this strategy above if the hunters spawn.

The PL Launcher Chieftian himself is a bit useless. He's no real threat. If theres anything else in range thats shooting you, hit that first.

Now I feel really stupid for being getting hit by one of his plasma grenades at two in the morning.

If you were standing still, that's understandable. I still feel stupid for walking in to one.

Now when break is over, it's back to reality. Dark, I think we'll only have time on weekends now for Mythic. As for me, hopefully I can find time to beat New Alexandria during the week. It's pretty easy, I'm thinking the Banshees will kill me while I'm lost in the city if anything.

Well, I made a clip to go with my text explanation for the Chieftains. Could someone render it? It'll take 2 render minutes.

I wasn't standing still. I was strafing left and right, but I think a grenade landing on the wall behind me. When I fight enemies head on, I strafe left and right; this allows me to dodge a great number of shots and this is how I kill the dual plasma rifle elite just before the phantom shows up and drops a repeating and concussion elite. I don't know about chieftans, but wit elites, they'll throw the grenade, not where you are, but where they think you'll be. So I'll be strafing right, and still get stuck. This is why I'll only do this against dual wielding elites.

EDIT: I just watched your rendered video, Vince. On my Exodus run, I kamikaze the finale in under five minutes. At the end, I camo while running full speed and jump up the plants to hit the button; if the hammer chieftan is there, I wait for him to run away. The kamikaze run is dangerous, but that's the safest part of it; I've never been killed at that part.

Haha I would too :-P That said, it actually isn't that difficult to win a melee dance against a Chieftain as well. I've had a bit of practice with the Captains earlier in the mission and have tried it a couple of times with the Chieftain counterpart :-)

A friend of mine just broke Exodus.
Actually he smashed into little pieces, this is as good as the Pelican turret on LNoS:

Once you land in Carcalla Parc commandeer your troopers' Warthog and drive it straight up the ramp into the fire control building. Park it against one of two doors on the back wall. Then go and get the second Warthog from near the water's edge and block the other door.

Behind these two doors is a room where the last wave of enemies including both Chieftains spawn and they're all too dumb to move the 'hogs with force.

Game over.

EDIT: Here's the film (only 34 minutes) if anyone would care to render it.

I was going to hold it back until I beat Exodus, but I'm not selfish enough to do that.

I'll be incorporating your start to the mission with Depleted's end in my run. Your Jetpack jump to assassinate that first Chieftain was beautiful but your ending was pretty sloppy in comparison IMO (you nearly got owned by that Brute with the Spiker as you were jumping for the red button).

How goes it with LNoS?
