The bit in regards to killing the focus Elites first is actually good idea. My main reasoning for bringing the SR up at all would be specifically to kill those two.

Or how about this. Why not bring both the RL and SR? Full RL of course, and then dump it for the Needle Rifle later and use the SR for the focus elites. You can ge four rounds from the sniper straight away and 4-5 additional rounds for each sniper you pick up from a dead Marine.

Here's a tip. After the beach battle, both Covenant and Marines will infinitely respawn. Usually each Marines squad will have at least one rocket guy and one sniper guy (though not always). If you grenade them the second they land, you can pick up more grenades for the next waves AND the ammo they leave behind.

BTW, how many rockets does it take to kill a ranger? 1?

So melee the first Elite, rocket the second, drop down, rocket the terminal guys, wait for the last two to come in range and rocket them. Then maybe.... rocket the elite that comes in straight away if you've got anything left. Switch for Needle rifle, chase the grunts out, grab Drop Shield if not already. Then drop-shield into the hanger, up the ramp, snipe the focus rifle elites. Use any sniper ammo left on the engineer/NR it. Retreat to comms room, grab PP, move up hallway towards hanger, kill grunts, kill elites, done.

Sounds do-able.

I feel like we're making progress...

...why didn't we have this conversation 2 weeks ago!? BAH!

Anyway, still must try this for myself to see if it'll actually work :)

Yup. It only take one direct hit with a rocket to kill a Ranger.

I first noticed this when I saw the Marine carrying a Rocket Launcher and though, meh why not try it since nothing else seems to work? I was plesantly surprised to find out that it only took one rocket to kill one.

So I went back to see if I could find more rockets (since you only get one or two from that Marines. Then I noticed the second Marine with a RL shooting at the Spirit, so I TKed him and took the ammo. But I figured there had to be more, so I started search around in theatre mode and noticed the battle going on outside... and the weapons wielded by the Marines...

Then I proceeded to take their ammo on the next go around and discovered yet another Pelican dropping off reinforcements in the same location. Marines died. I took their ammo. Soon I had full rockets and used them to deal with the comms room. Cake.

The drawback of course is spending more time at the beach, so if one of those "fluke" accidents occurs (like dying from nothing in space OR from a Serpah on the landing pad) the more frustrating it becomes. But like I said, it makes much easier work for the comms room and the hangar.

Alright. I'm gonna say NEY on the sniper. Reason being without the Sword, fighting the two Elites that come up from the comms room becomes immensely more complicated. I'm not saying it isn't possible. Just not worth the trouble. Since our main focus seems to be making the comm room easier, I vote for Sword/Rocket combo. Less room for error.

At this point I've tested it SIX TIMES and only made it past those two Elites once without the Sword.

Also, this will make us all aware of how good we actually are at this game. Something that seems trivial to us is excruciatingly hard for other people.

Not I. Just easing up on the play time to do other things. Still LOADS I want to do in this game: high scores, speedruns, ff highscores, exploring the other playlists, make some forge stuff etc.

What, like calling sprint, "Sprint" and not 'boost'? Their lack of knowledge on the game really irks me. Plus there were plenty of strategy additions / improvments that they didn't even seem to THINK of in the first few comments. And these are the guys telling other people how to play the game? UGH.

anyway, thats off-topic!

The rockets are effective, but they attract alot of attention and you die.

Uggh I've only ever gotten past the comm room ONCE, and I've died every other time. I must have tried this level 60 times

Sick of Reach? No. I won 75-0 in BTB this morning (although so many people quit it won't show on B.net :-( )

And lol. I love strategy videos that aren't actually much good, I mean haven't those guys ever heard of the Plasma Pistol for killing Elites?

Has anyone tried using the Falcon to complete Winter Contigency on Mythic? I was checking it out and its pretty easy and fun. You are invulnerable while piloting and if you put the falcon between the Spirit's arms, you can get past the invisible barrier to use it in the courtyard.

I find it odd you were having so much trouble with the first two elites on the Corvette Tyrant. The first one is cake, and surely you can use the RL/sniper on the second if you're having difficulty assassinating?

Like I said, ultimately it just comes down to what's easier and more practical.

I just died again on Long Night, but this time it wasn't in vain. This is the THIRD time I've made it past the hangar with my new method.

The rockets work like they're supposed to. You are SUPPOSED to be attracting attention so they come to you. Here's how it works. Sword + RL, right? Okay, sword the first two Elites that come up out from the comms room like you normally would. Next jump down onto the "rafter" and rocket the two at the control panel. This immediately takes your numbers down from six Elites to two Elites. Only the dual wielders are left. Continue to hang out in the rafter until one of them tries to attack you from below (and use dropshield to keep you safe). Normally, the dual wielders will just stare at you and hose down the plasma until the shield pops. As this is happening, you should be aiming your RL directly at the Elite so that the second the shield pops, you can let him have it. Again, it only takes ONE DIRECT HIT with a rocket to kill a Ranger.

The other may also wander down to you, but often times he'll go down to the lower level to engage the Marines. When he's done with them, drop down the the second floor. The Elite will boost up to you but will be unable to attack until after his feet touch the ground. This is basically a free kill. Shoot him while he's in midair and can't dodge or fight back.

Again, this method has worked for me several times in a row. Little to no luck required! :-)

EDIT: If you're having trouble finding a rhythm, get to that point with the weapons I have suggested, and if you die, Save & Quit and practice until you feel comfortable. This method does work.

Basically, the only real difficult part is gathering the ammo from the dead Marines as they the Covenant continue to advance. On the bright side, it's still the start of the mission. Even if you die, you haven't lost much. It's still a LOT better than dying at the comms room after a perfect space run simply because there was a dual wielder where you weren't expecting him.

Has anyone tried using the Falcon to complete Winter Contigency on Mythic?

Yes. Of course. It relies on a few random elements (like Jun not being in the Falcon), and also on not getting stuck in the Falcon once you've made it to the destination (once this happens, your only way to escape is to get hijacked by an Elite, or tipped upside down, eek!).

With the newer strategies, those sections aren't even much of a problem any more, so its not something that should be advised. Though of course, if you want the speediest times, you're gonna need to use it :)

Agreed. If you are dying that much, you really should practice more. Atleast get it down below double digit deaths before going for a real run.

Recently started a practice run on PoA. So far so good, up to the section bewteen Boneyard and the hunters with two death (both from me being stupid). I forgot where the last jump was to get above the elites so I had to stop and watch a film.

I had no deaths up until the comms room room where I died 3 times; hanger twice. All my later deaths were caused by the elites in the gun contol room were aware, and marching around. The general in the bridge wasn't making his rounds, so I couldn't assassinate the other elites without being seen.

I'm starting another practice run, and I've cleared up to just past the hanger and I haven't died. Had to save and quit- going to bed

Looks like Ive gotten everything up to the 4 elites of the Apocalypse down. Only had 4 deaths up to that point, and all but one of them was from me experimenting. That room with the 4 elites is proving to be a real pain. I cant seem to make the Field Marshal back off so I can fight the Zealots with ease.

Sorry, I havent. Ive only watched Archer's, Sangheilioz's, and most of Aura's. I did figure out what to do though.

BTW, I recommend people watching films of PoA to record the final area into a film clip. That way, you can skip watching the areas before the landing pad/Apocalypse elites if you need to go back and watch the final area again.
