Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Though I like the assassination method, the other two seem to work more consistantly for me. Of course, it could just be an issue of me not having the patrols down, but personally, I like dealing with this room one of two ways: either using Sprint to rush up, assassinate the General, and retreat back to the hall to deal with the rest of the bunch, OR to use the Needle Rifle to dance with the General in the event that Plan A goes sour. Like I said before, I fully intend on including the assassination method in the guide as an option for those who wish to try, but I don't plan on keeping it as a primary means of success simply because it seems to depend on the positioning of the enemies in the room.
Not to mention the fact that you may randomly get noticed in the middle of your actions sometimes.

Yea, I've noticed that too.

GT: The Depleted

From all my attemps so far PoA seems more frustrating (maybe more difficult) than LNoS. At least dieing in the Comm's Room was only 20 minutes of mindless space combat wasted - while dieing at the Landing Pad can cost me over half an hour!

And I still think assassinating the General on the Bridge is perfectly safe. From my experience it doesn't matter where the other enemies are, you wont get seen until you land the backsmack if you take the right route.

The comms room isn't an issue anymore. Haven't you heard? I broke it :-) You can bow down and praise me later.

Since most people here suck at description, and I'd really be interested and learning more, would you mind uploading a rendered video of how this works? With two walkthroughs going on, a movie, and a full time job, I don't really have a lot of spare time to download it and watch the whole thing. So something convenient to view would be excellent. Otherwise, I can't really get a good read of the description and have to dismiss it.

Thanks though :-)

It looks like people are making process despite my absence. I'm looking forward to reading your LNOS guide, Tyrant.

Is anyone buying the new maps tomorrow? I'm still undecided, but I'm leaning towards no.

I've got my code pre-ordered, so I'm just waiting on it.

I still want me some damn multi-mythic.

I also need to get my last 2 missions done before Cataclysm launches and I get sucked into the void that is WoW.

I too am interested in this LNoS guide. Dont make me come over there and take it from you.

Just a small thing I discovered on ONI Sword Base while running through on easy (had to play through to unlock ToTS again for the daily challenge, stupid Campaign reset).
Basically, I used both Target Locator shots when I first got it. I held onto it and when I returned to the ONI Base, I noticed I had another two shots, this is probably common knowledge, I didn't really look into it that much, just posting it here as it may help some people if it's not well known about.

Huh thats pretty interesting. Sure would make taking the Phantom out at the end real easy. When exactly does it reset? Can it be used outside of ONI when you re-enter the courtyard?

Thinking of nixing the Long Night redo. My tactics haven't really changed that much, and with my latest run through, even with me pro-ing up the space combat and staying on the offense side of things, the film would have only shaved off about 5-10 minutes which is really nothing when you're looking at an hour and a half. I'm moving on to New Alexandria for now. May go back to Long Night later, but since I have it beat anyway, I can use it for the guide and reference the Legendary version for other tactics like I've done for previous installs.

Not meant in a trolling way but I've seen all your guides for Halo 3 and ODST and isn't it a bit "cheap" basically dodging as much as you can? On Heroic you fight through, on legendary you fight through, on mythic shouldn't you do the same?

If you have a better way of doing it, lay it on us. We're all ears.

I'll fight through. No skull that disables ur hud and iron though ...

But which way is safer and more consistent? Time efficiency is nice, but safety and assurance is nicer in my book.

Definitely the first way then. I suppose if people want to take a more aggressive approach, they can watch my Legendary guide and fit into the Mythic run according.

See that's exactly why you don't have a right to tell us how to play. You'd only do it if you could keep out two out of the three terrible triad skulls? Heh. And you call us cheap :-P

I'm not sure when it resets, I guess after you hit a certain loading zone.
And yes, you can use it outside of ONI in the courtyard. You could lure the hunters out and use it on them, haven't tested it.

[...] I noticed I had another two shots,

Your problem is highlighted. You're playing on Easy. You don't get such niceties while on Legendary. On easy/normal you get 2 shots initially, then two more at the AA station, then 2 more at Farragut (comms array). On Legendary you only get the initial two shots.

Ah, fair enough. Didn't play that mission that much to notice small things like that.

It's been a while. I'm not entirely sure if I am going to go through with completing Reach Mythic. On one hand, I'd like to complete all three Campaigns on Mythic. It's not even that difficult...but I suppose there in lies the problem.

To most of us, we'd say "it's not that difficult". We're used to it, but a lot of time goes in to the various runs before completing a level. Time I would normally be willing to spend, but I just don't feel driven anymore because I can't see myself actually enjoying it. (At some level, even Coastal Highway was enjoyable to me)

I'm in agreeance that this game isn't nearly as much fun on Mythic as the last two, though, I will say that while doing my Legendary guide, I've been having a blast. Perhaps we're just so used to the way the Halo 3 engine worked (as with ODST) and fighting enemies the "new" way isn't quite as appealing.

In either case, at this point I have an obligation to finish and will do as such. After that, I foresee myself enjoying the fruits of Cataclysm for awhile and maybe even revisting Halo 3/ODST :-)

  • 11.30.2010 5:16 PM PDT

Quite, though it takes some adjusting to go from Reach to Halo 3 or ODST. After the Beta my mind was so set on the Reach default that I would find myself trying to melee when I'd reload, turning my visor on/off when I wanted to pick up a weapon or reload, and using a melee when I'd want to switch grenades. Didn't find myself trying to use Armor Abilities, though.

Of course, once my mind transitioned I made my speedrun of Data Hive on Mythic. I'm thinking I'll just switch on and off between Reach MM and Mythic each day. As with most things for me, it seems that even if something seems like it will be a bore, I can't help but get drawn back in to it. The Elites do tend to amuse me, so that's a plus...

Hey Vincent.

Don't fall victim to the sunk cost bias. Decide what you want to do based on the future, not the past. Failure to do so gets Mount Everest mountaineers killed. Ignore how many levels you've completed. To you, is it worth completing the 9-x (where x=the number of levels you've completed)? The hours you've sunk have already been sunk; you can't change that. Even if you decide to continue, those hours will have been used and you will never get them back.

Why isn't it fun? Has the difficulty become so extreme that it's not fun anymore? I felt that near the end of POA; this is why I stopped mythicing. I actually felt it when I was playing The Package, but I didn't think of it then.

Keep at it man, I was in the same situation as you for The Ark on Halo 3. I was on the verge of giving up, y'know dying twice at the end is pretty demoralizing.
You can do it buddy, just play a couple times a day, you're good enough to finish it with ease. And once you have, the satisfaction of finally doing it is incredibly amazing, probably more so because you knew that you deserved it.
During my attempts at The Ark, I was struggling to get past the first few areas, I said to myself: "C'mon [my name], you can do it". I did it the time after, and the joy was amazing.
Finishing such a task while knowing at one point you thought about giving up is one of the greatest things you can accomplish. Because through all the hardtimes and frustrating moments, you've come out victorious.
Hope my little encouraging talk helps. :D

I found Mythic PoA to be the most fun I had on Reach, hence why I call that mission The Pillar of Awesome. A truely boring mission was doing Nightfall before the Forklift skip, that skip alone is probably what got me third. I was wasting so much time on that mission it was horrible.

The difficulty is no harder than Halo 3, it's just presented differently in my opinion. In fact, I found Halo 3 to be a lot harder. I completed Reach in the time I did about 7/9 missions on Halo 3 (last two being Crow's Nest then The Ark).
Especially since I started Halo 3 towards the start of Mythic, so none of the "tricks" were discovered;
Such as the multiple Sierra 117 skips, I had to fight that whole level.
Or the skip on The Storm at the end which bypassed the final area by not loading it.
