awesome, got nightfall in my fileshare, just got to the mining facility on tip of the spear and fell off a platform D:

Yea that's happened to me a few times too. Happens to most people at first I'm sure. Best thing to do is hit the beams at an angle, and ALWAYS remain calm so you don't accidentally fidget with the joystick too much. lol.

Gratz on conquering Nightfall! You're well on your way to seeing your name on that list :-)

Oh. I was just trying to shoot those birds with this here jello-shooter.
-noob using a fuel rod gun

Social Infection

Here is some interesting stuff I have found that might save yourself at some point. Some might make me sound like a noob, so bear with me.

1. Dealing with hunters. In my attempt to defeat campaign alone on legendary I found some things out about hunters. I found that one of the best weapons for them is the needle rifle. If you save all your ammo for a hunter team its worth it. Just fire as fast as you can into its orangeness, even if you think you miss, the supercombine is well worth it. Getting one hunter left is all you need. get close and confy and side step it shooting until you reveal the soft backside. your spartan buddies will help too. Save your grenades too, they aren't so helpful anymore on these guys.

2.AA guns. You know those big old things you think you have to kill inside? Well you don't! If you have a tank or warthog, just shoot at the gun until it explodes, it takes a while, but its well worth it.

3.nightfall hologram. Having camo is great in this mission to snipe in the distance, but hologram is better. The enemy loves to wait for you to make the move, or will come at you when you don't want them too. Its great to break up the monotony and gives you the breaks you need.

If I can think of anything else I will post it.

#1 Legendary ODST Firefight Highscore

[UNINTELLIGIBLE > INSUBORDINATION(?)]

I'm pretty confident I can beat LNoS now. I got to the hanger, killed the general and most of the elites, only to be killed by a suicide grunt.

Thanks for the advice! I've got some alternate ideas for you to try out though...

For hunters, there's only a couple times you ever really need to fight them, and you'll be in a vehicle with a powerful weapon and some distance between you at that point (plus having plasma launchers available to you for Tip of the Spear). All the other hunters in the game can be either replaced with dancing grunts or skipped altogether.

The AA guns we're aware of. Rocket hogs and scorpions make short work of them. :)

In Nightfall, Sprint > all other Armor Abilities, and allows you to beat the mission in like 5 minutes. Check my mythic video in my fileshare for an example.

Keep up the good work in finding tricks, tips, and tactics. I'm sure there's several things we haven't thought of or tried yet that could make things WAY easier!

Yeah...the military has been doing that for years.

They're the guys on the front lines. The Harvard graduates and the smart ones are all officers.

You'd be amazed how often it's actually the other way around.

I'm thinking I have LNoS in the bag right now. Just cleared the bridge and need to set up my box trap, but really, the hard parts are behind me now. I set up another barricade in the previous room to block off the reinforcements in the cannon room, so really all I need to do is get my chance to hop in the Pelican turret.

Edit: And done. Now all that remains is Pillar of Autumn, which I am still very familiar with.

PoA harder or easier than Long Night?

PoA harder or easier than Long Night?

Mission start to Rally Point Alpha: Pillar of Autumn is harder, obviously. Even if you want to run through the areas, you're going to be taking a lot of fire, which can't really be said for LNoS.

Alpha to Bravo: Again, Pillar of Autumn. Space combat just isn't that difficult.

Bravo: It's about equal, but Pillar of Autumn has the upper hand because of the Mass Driver and there's no Pelican turret available.

Having not had the RL strategy for the comms room, nor the pelican turret for the hangar, I feel as though Long Night was the more difficult one, personally. Pillar was rather easy IMO, got to halfway through the landing pad on like my fourth attempt, and the third time I managed to make it to the landing pad I beat the level.

At the same time though, that was after a number of tricks had been discovered to make PoA much easier.

I think PoA is probably harder in terms of raw fighting, and is longer, but its much fairer than LNoS and all the bull-blam!- you can encounter there.

Oh right, something I found that made the Bridge easier for me...

I assassinated one Elite to get my shields and was watching the General's pattern, but eventually when he turned he spotted me from all the way across the room. When I saw him take out his weapon, I booked it for the hallway, dropping a shield as I waited for the door to open.

Anyway, thing is, you can kill everything but the General from the hallway with a Needle Rifle. Remembering that Spec Ops and Rangers have identical shield strength (hurray for my sniping practice at the start of Nightfall on Mythic having results), I used my Needle Rifle in much the same way as I had against the Focus Rifle Rangers in the hanger. All you have to do is spot the Spec Ops guy, fire a few shots in to him, he'll dog and then move in to your line of sight again. This will continue until he's dead. The Spec Ops with Sword should be dealt with using a Plasma Rifle or Pistol, because you won't be able to hit him with enough Needle Rifle shots before he reaches you.

Grunts of course, can be picked off as you spot them. The General ended up dodging Needle Rifle shots aimed at a Grunt and remained in hiding from then on. Once it was clear, I found him crouched where I heard he would be hiding. Easy as pie, and this was the first and only time I'd ever made it to the bridge.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

You truly are AWESOME. Your Legendary guides looked SO easy, and you make these look easy too. You really are unbelieveable with Legendary and Mythic.

Haha yep. That is exactly how I did it on my runs. Spec Ops have weak shields just like the Rangers.

Nice job Vince! You're almost there!

On another note, first person to find five videos in the Mythic walkthroughs for Halo: Reach where Tyrant does not begin the commentary with saying "alright" or "ok", gets a brownie point.

Yeah it's funny but it would be petty painful in a Mythic run. Not as painful as the evac Falcon on WC flipping and removing Jun and his inability to get back in for it to take off though.
That annoyed me so much.

You make a good point. Mainly I'm going off of feelings rather than rationale. When I died in LNoS I always got frustrated, but when I died in PoA it didn't feel like that big of a deal comparatively. Basically, I felt a lot less stressed and frustrated by the level, and as a result it seemed PoA was much easier.

For some reason I get frustrated when I die in Exodus. Moreso than in LNoS because I think I know subconsciously that I'm fighting Brutes, not Elites and that it should be easier.

I'd kill for a Needle Rifle at the start of that mission. It would speed things up remarkably.

You don't need one since you have a ton of needlers :-P

  • 12.09.2010 3:58 PM PDT

I only use a Needler for one encounter on Exodus. Otherwise I just go with well aimed headshots from my Pistol and DMR. At the point I am using a Needler and a DMR, the Needler is to kill the hammer pair ASAP, and the DMR is for the small fry enemies. The Needler is for the Brutes left over, and if/when I run out of Needler ammo I just switch to Plasma Grenades when I lure Brutes to take cover in a spot I can easily throw a grenade at.
