Tough luck, dude. Sword Base took me a while too.

Keeping some plasma handy is always a good idea. I juggled a Plasma Pistol outside the doors with the Target Locator and left the Plasma Pistol on the ground in case I needed it. The only times I ever picked it up were the rare instances when the Elite rushed me as I waited for the second Wraith to turn towards Kat on the right. If you stick to the left rock wall until you get to the rock where the Grunts and Elite were hiding, the Wraith won't see you (as long as it's focusing its attention on Kat). I've never had a problem with a Wraith's hatch, nor have I heard of anyone else having that problem. Two hits and it should be off. Jump off and it'll boost forward a bit leaving itself immobile for a few seconds so you can jump back on (don't press the Action button) to kill the driver.

Props for having success with the Warthog. The few time I tried it, I utterly failed. It doesn't sound like you used the Rocket Launcher that sits on the hill Kat runs to to distract the Wraiths, though. Pro-tip: Rockets fired by Marines home in on their target (vehicles and infantry). They also have unlimited ammo and will always get in the passenger seat.

I'm not sure how to deal with the Comms Array with a Warthog, but I think Naked Eli used a Rocket-Marine Hog during his run. If you want to do it that way, check out is file share. To get to the Comms Array from the AA Gun, you can actually go back the way you came to avoid the Ghosts and infantry waiting for you around the corner. However, they don't leave after you activate the Array, and I think it's easier to deal with the Ghosts and infantry than with the Ghosts, Revenants and infantry on your way back to Sword Base. If you take care of the Ghosts and infantry after the AA Gun, you can go back to Sword Base that way, skipping the Ghosts, Revenants and infantry that block your way on the normal route.

You've made great progress considering that it doesn't seem like you watched any videos. If you're still having trouble, I suggest checking out the file shares of any regular posters in this thread. I already mentioned Eli and myself, but there are several others who have beaten Sword Base as well.

Thanks for the tips :D

For the record, I've been in the Mythic game since it started with Halo 3. I'm usually just a LURK-MOAR member, though, and rarely discuss. But I have been keeping close tabs on the Reach Mythic progress, am aware of the guide, and knows "shortcuts" through most of the levels as a result of reading this thread. I simply didn't get around to trying it myself. I was like that with Halo 3 and ODST, too. I play multiplayer (in ODST's case, Firefight) or campaign until I get too bored to do that. I may get into a custom games phase, too; I did with Halo 3. I always get around to Mythic runs, though. It just tends to stay last on my list, as I like immersing myself in the game itself before I start throwing my controller across the room. tl;dr: I always do Mythic, just usually after I get bored of everything else.

I haven't tried any more Mythic levels, however. I actually put Halo 1 in and starting playing that on Legendary after realizing I never have. That thing is harder than Reach Mythic...

A wise decision. I didn't start playing Reach on Mythic until about a month after release. I just couldn't pull myself away from matchmaking. Since I got going, I've been playing fairly regularly. Not every day, but several days a week.

I'm inclined to agree with you. The only CE level I've beaten on Legendary is the first one, and it was no walk in the park. I don't recall spending 2 hours on it a la The Pillar of Autumn, but it took a good chunk of time. In the second mission (when you first land on Halo) I got stuck at the structure you have to defend that's past the top of the first hill you climb. Several waves of Covies get dropped off, and at one point, I was unable to progress even to the next checkpoint (read: I tried and failed to get past the same wave for well over an hour). I called it a night and haven't gone back since. Maybe after I finish Reach. Now that I'm remembering this, it's really starting to bother me. Hell, even Marty O'Donnell did it....

Maybe it's the fact that I played not one, but TWO copies of Halo: CE into submission, but I don't understand why my fellow mythicers are having so much trouble with CE on legendary. I can run through that game on legendary in a few hours with no problem...

#1 Legendary ODST Firefight Highscore

[UNINTELLIGIBLE > INSUBORDINATION(?)]

My CE tactic is to just sprint through the levels, works fairly good for most parts.

I would recommend it. It's very much a different difficulty monster than Mythic. The Needler is actually one of the best guns you can pick up. The Plasma Pistol and Rifle are gods against Elites. The Magnum is beastly. It's truly a good experience. Only really, really hard to do.

For that particular part, I would recommend restarting the level. I couldn't pass that part either; I would get pinned down by the sheer amount of Elites in the area, and try playing defensive. I eventually decided to try something different, and played aggressively, taking the Forerunner structure and using it effectively. I was still dying, so I restarted and decided to use something other than the AR and Magnum. I used the Needler to take down Elites (Seriously, even on Legendary, only takes about a half clip to do it...), and the Magnum to headshot the Jackals and Grunts. Some Elites eventually broke through (there are two ways onto the structure, and your Marine AIs WILL die), and I was forced to pull some tricky maneuvering, but I still managed it. From there on you get a Warthog, so the rest of the level is cake.

It's the Truth and Reconciliation that I take issue with...

I played lots of CE in my day, but it was long ago enough that I don't remember intricacies. Now I find it all really hard, but mainly Elite combat. A Needler can take them out pretty easily, but when they take cover it's useless... Also, add a few more Elites into the mix, and they've got more firepower than you. Duck out to let your shields recharge and suddenly theirs have too... Honestly the hardest part of the game so far to me. Also, I accidentally ditched my Sniper before boarding the ship in The Truth and Reconciliation; a BIG boo-boo if I understand right. Now I'm stuck in the hangar, where the cover is plentiful, the enemy surrounds, and Elites like ducking away from my needles... What a pain!

No black and white in the blue.

Actually, I must have beaten the last Halo: CE mission on Legendary as I definitely remember seeing the Marine and Elite hug it out. That was probably the only reason I bothered, heh. I never actually owned a copy of Halo: CE or Halo 2 for Xbox until after buying my Elite bundle in 2009 (came with Halo 3 and Fable II). I bought Halo PC back in.... late 2006 or early 2007, and had played CE and H2 at my friends' places, but I didn't really get into Halo until late 2008/early 2009.

Anyone remember where RC Master's New Alexandria guide is? Once my two finals on Monday are over, I'm basically done for the semester. Time to hit Mythic hard. I was #37 in Halo 3 and #16 in ODST. I'm determined to improve upon my previous placings, even if it's just by one.

I had a lot of trouble with that one. The way I did it was hold the structure as long as you can, when they take it however stock up on health, nades, full pistol ammo and a plasma pistol.
Run to one of the smaller foreunner structures. The one with the ramp from memory has a space underneath.
Hide in there.
Elites rarely follow you in, if they do overcharge and headshot.
Generally I remembered you could hear them coming i so you had time to overcharge. And you could overcharge indefinetly too.
Otherwise just pop out to shoot off a bolt then pop out to headshot.

Hello all, 1st post

I got halo reach and soundly beat it on legendary in a day or two and was looking for a new challenge when I stumbled upon this forum. Unfortunately I will not be able to prove mythic progress as I live in China and havent been able to connect to xbox live. Yay China! Regardless, winter contingency and Nightfall are down with ONI swordbase sure to fall in the next few hours!

Now HERE is the question? Does halo reach record videos offline/ can these be believed? And in ONI swordbase, has anyone had the gauss-hog "disappear" on the way up to the hunters? I had a straggler Ultra surprise me and Kat with a grenade - the hog "left", and Kat was not amused.

Thanks.

Naaaahh! It just takes getting used to its particular quirks. Having checkpoints already makes it easier.

Btw, I think your shields will always recharge a second or two faster than Elite's will. That'll allow you to duck out and re-engage as soon as your shields are back and have less work to do than you did on the first engagement.

If you have a harddrive they'll save to that. The saved films unforunately don't have any user-exposed ways to tell what skulls were on for sure. So, unfortunately films without online stats attached to them can't be verified and so you couldn't go on the list that is in the thread starter. Still though, you can always take on the challenge for personal satisfaction. Its not like anybody really cares who is on the list :)

tell me if this is old, but it might be useful

the other day I was playing tip of the spear, and I appear to have deloaded the wraiths, and caused the falcon to land immediately (still had to kill everything else mind)

the only thing I can think of that I did differently was not kill the ultra and three grunts that appear out of the rocks when you leave the mining facility, I just drove straight past

anybody else had this happen? or was I just lucky? (bearing in mind I then proceeded to be owned by the shade turrets but ah well)

Am I the only one that likes to try this stuff without running from any fights? Don't get me wrong. I love the shortcuts, and they'll be invaluable when I start grinding for flawless cowboy (rather than glitching it). I played through most of Halo 3 with most skulls on and didn't run from stuff. It was challenging and time consuming, but I enjoyed most of it. I think ended up getting bored or frying the 360 somewhere in the Ark level. It's been forever. I was writing notes for all the enemies in the areas and my strategies for dealing with them.

At some point, I want to try Reach with everything but Blind. I really can't be bothered to do that. To me, the gold skulls are where it's at. They make things a lot harder this time around. Black Eye doesn't allow you to double charge your shields like previous games, and active camo is near worthless unless you creep around real slow. I really miss the Halo 2 version of Cowbell though. I thought it was hilarious you could smack an elite in the face and they'd do a 180 so you could 1-smack them in the back. The other funny thing about Halo 2 that was ultra elites: plasma stick, they get pissed, drop their weapon and pull a sword every time.

They throw themselves off the cliff.

In the mythic guide Tyrant was saying you can trigger it intentionally, but I dunno; seems pretty random to me. The one featured in my video throws itself off pretty regularly, and instantly after spawning.

The aim for most poeple is just completion. If some strategy enables that to happen easier or quicker then we'll take it.

Black Eye doesn't allow you to double charge your shields like previous games, The only game it had that effect was Halo 2. Halo 3 and ODST's Black eye both operate the same as Reach's. Halo 2 is the exception, if anything.

So I got a kick out of doing my favorite thing on Pillar of Autumn: letting Emile fight 3 Elites while I listen. The gibberish the Elites speak tends to amuse me, but when the second Elite got irritated and came after Emile, I decided to drop down from my spot and assassinate the Elite...except apparently the third Elite had seen me drop down, so he came to join in the fight, too. Given the choice between Emile or me, he picked to come after me. Oh well, I got a good laugh from it.

When the dust settles, you will learn what true terror is.

So, I did a mythic run through The Package tonight. I raced my friend to see who could beat the level first (he was playing on heroic, no skulls). He had about a 10 minute head start on me, but I only finished some 5 minutes behind him, shaving about 25 minutes off of my previous run. Needless to say, I've replaced my mythic video in my fileshare.

I shot so many banshees down with the wraith...

  • 12.14.2010 8:29 PM PDT

No black and white in the blue.

How often does one get Vyrant Tower first? It's my 3rd or 4th New Alexandria run, and I got the callout about the Hunters as I was about to ascend into Sinoviet. And to top that off, after finally managing to kill one of the Hunters on the dance floor (Needle Rifle + DMR + Frags + Plasmas) and blowing the jammer without the other Hunter next to it noticing, I get the Misriah Complex. Awesome. Well, at least it's right next door, I guess.

EDIT: Died trying to clear Misriah. I've decided to quit and start over if I don't get Sinoviet right away. Also, I did Vyrant the hard way because every time I've tried activating the switch on top of Vyrant, I got gangbanged by at least 4 Banshees at once. Also, I usually lose significant shields and health during the long trip to the hospital and back. Thus, I came to the conclusion that the less time I spend in the air, the better. Taking my time with one Hunter seems to be much easier. I just got out of Vyrant doing it the old fashioned way again. That makes me 2/2. I'm 0/about 5 when I try to activate the switches. Here's hoping I can get through Buck's Phantom rescue and the hospital without too much trouble and finish this thing tonight.

I feel for ya, man. I kept getting the hospital first, and when I finally got Sinoviet before the hospital, I was so freakin' happy. Beat it that round too. I actually got the club before Sinoviet that round, but I was already on my way to the hospital figuring I would get it again (this became my starting strategy after the first 4 attempts) so I was already on the way to the first switch.

The second switch is kind of a pain. What I did was fly away from the club as I descended, then looped back around in a huge circle to keep the banshees from catching me (usually, can't remember if this is what I did in my video or not, I think I might have had a rare moment of good fortune in my successful run and was able to drop straight down).

Man this mission is frustrating. After dying to... I don't remember what killed me after I got out of Vyrant. Either way, I died from some splash damage trying to clear Vyrant on my next try. Maybe I'll give the easter egg another chance. But for that to happen, I have to get past what comes first. I got Sinoviet first again (hooray) but got Buck's classified ops after that. I escorted him to the last building he stops at but got blasted by... I'm not even sure how many Banshees. As if there weren't enough in New Alexandria already, they seem to gravitate towards Buck's Falcon during this particular side mission. I counted at least 8 in his general vicinity at one point, and there were at least 5 beams of plasma hitting me when I died. Ugh, this sucks. I feel like Master Chief when he's on board the Pillar of Autumn while Reach is being invaded...... wait, that's not canon anymore. Oh well, it's a good comparison. I'd rather have my boots on the ground (or my Sabre in space, although that doesn't agree with my comparison; Falcons are just too damn slow).

When the dust settles, you will learn what true terror is.

Buck's Falcon can hold its own against banshees, so if it gets a little hot, just pull out and take potshots at the banshees as you circle around. When the coast is clear, move back in towards Buck to continue the mission.

Also, try to keep Buck between you and the banshees when you can. Usually this will cause the banshees to home in on Buck when/if they get close and leave you with some time to maneuver. Plus, if you're flying backwards or sideways to look at Buck and the banshees you can be shooting at them as they approach.

Pretty sure its entirely random. Random doesn't mean 'it'll change every time', random means you can get sprees of having the same one pop up every time, but the chance for each of them is probably the same I think.

Theres a needle rifle on the left hand side of the Club that'll kill those Brute Minors in just 1 supercombine. You beat the DJ to death, then supercombine on one of the Bartenders before the last one is even active. Plus theres plenty of healthpacks around there and a few of the grunts should have PPs if you need to bring your health down further.

Also: if you're SUPER paranoid about dying/losing shields at SinoViet, you can leverage the copius number of AAs in that area to enable you to sprint the entire way to the exit.

Like so.
