Mass driver access is a work in progress; in other words, I'm just going to wing it. With the knowledge that I can go after the Field Marshal first, I may just go about the fight differently than I would before.

With going behind the fence between the two walls? Thats an interesting line you draw there...

I have a habit of killing enemies out of order, but killing them no less. I'm the one who brought to light the Ark trick for the early Chieftain kill.

Albeit I had to look a lot more specifically at the triggers because my description on how to perform it was incorrect and it caused Dark to die twice. The thing was I only gave a vague description because I didn't really think about the subtle nuances of where I go in each room.

I felt bad knowing that my trick had screwed over Dark, so I thought a lot about the precise things I did, tested things and made a video showing the results.

GT: The Depleted

Pillar of Autumn - 42:18, the film's in my file share.

I can't really take that much credit for the time though - it wouldn't have been possible without the various tricks discovered by you guys: including thanks to Tyrant's film for the Hunter skip and RC Master's Ultra trap in smelting room 2. (Although I havn't seen anybody else skip the first Boneyard section like I do.)

Also, that makes me number 11!

I don't have bungie pro currently so do you want me to link all my game details for each mission, Tyrant?

Wow...

Well done, my good sir; well done.

I wonder if any of my runs are the fastest now; I was so proud when I was the first person to get POA under an hour...

Naked Eli:
Are there any other tactics we know of that weren't in the vid?

Very biefly:
you can deload the wraith by going back to the start of the Scarab area.
You can deload the Elites, Shades and Ghosts in the second half of boneyard by going back to where the cutscene started.
You can initially skip the spawn for the enemies in the second smelting room and set up a trap for the Ultra Elite.

---
Following on from my vid of the second smelting room, I thought I'd offer a quick(ish) clip of me clearing out the workshop where the Zealots and Field Marshall are. Since I went right to the end in that run anyway (from Alpha). In it, I take out one Zealot first, then the Field Marshall, and then finish off the final two Zealots.

Things to note: You can take out one Zealot from the doorway to the building. In the clip he got knocked onto some barriers which paralypsed him somewhat, but its certainly possible to take him out from this position even if you aren't so fortunate as that. I used the Holo to draw him out (a little) and distract his fire on occasion.
Next, from the same position as you would take out the Field Marshal from, behind the fence, you may be able to target and take out a second Zealot. They seemed quite intent on staring at me and offered only minimal returning fire.
With 2 Zealots and the Field Marshall dead, there is only 1 zealot left to deal with using the stair method. This might make things a bit easier for people who felt overwhelmed trying to deal with 3 dodgy zealots all at once from the stairs.
The Holo doesn't seem to help much in drawing out the zealots when on the stairs, but at least you can use it to keep track of where they are.

EDIT: oh, damn. One last thing I wanted to note on Tyrant's PoA video:
If you're jumping straight up to the mass driver from the area behind the fence; jump onto the section of the wall closer to the mass driver platform (i.e. on the other side of the little strut) then onto the top of the wall, then to the outer wall, and hop over the railing onto the platform. (thats probably explained horribly so if needs be I can provide pictures) This'll leave you exposed for less time and depending on where the zealots are, the platform itself can cover you a little.

Sweet, thanks a ton RC. Would you mind providing a short clip or pictures for your edit? I definitely don't want to die that far into the mission and it sounds like a good route.

That was awesome! I was convinced that you'd get blasted for sure if you went that way. The only other 'fastish' way I'd seen/used was to take out all the jackals and then sprint along the LEFT cliff side. Running straight past the FRG General on the right like that is balsy indeed!

Gotta see if this'll work on Legendary, cus that could cut a minute off that section in the speedrun I'm planning :)

EDIT: It does seem to work on Legendary too! Sweet :)

Oh, and the last dual-weilding Zealot that you skipped past? He was just sitting crouched behind a pillar on the other side of the room! It was so funny watching you sitting on the stairs, stationary, waiting for the cruiser, and him just sitting there as well, completely oblivious to you!

Fileshare is a bit jam-packed at the moment, with all my fails :P

Heres a pic instead. See the ledge that Santerini is jumping on? NOT that one, the one to the left on the other side of the little vertical barrier. This one. You'll have to jump diagonally over the pit to get to it. The mass driver platform will provide cover from a few more angles when you jump up right next to it.

You'll only need to do these jumps at all if you want/need to skip some zealots though. And if they're all dead it doesn't matter where you jump up anyway!

For a second there I was thinking he did the same thing I do, but apparently not. That gives us at least three non-deload involved ways past.

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

It's certainly possible. Just bear in mind that it only takes ONE fuel rod on a fully-shielded Spartan to send you back to start :-)

Glad it works out on Legendary too! You could probably even run the last bit without doubling back to the safespot to be even quicker - I just do that to regain sprint to be safe.

As for that last Zealot, he sure made me nervous! I was worried he might have got stuck somewhere where he'd have an angle on the stairs or something - luckily that wasn't the case!

I hate that damn turret. I ended up taking a clockwise approach to the entire last area; the cliff road is completely unguarded, so as soon as you get the chance head to it and toward the Spire. Be on guard, because there is a Bob with a FRG who can spawn in that area (and he did so on my final run). After going by the BFG, continue along the pathway, drop down and head toward where the Pelican would be in Invasion, jetpack up some rocks and then jetpack on top of the structure.

If you do it well enough, chances are no enemies will even notice you.

Thats what I did when I originally completed that level. If you're quick about it, you can take the SPADE truck instead, drive it to the nearest door at the bottom, hop out, up the ramp and into the lift no-problem. I think thats what I did in my 11:59 run.

Nice, dude. Welcome to the fold. I was wondering if your Boneyard skip was similar to mine, and judging from what RC said, it sounds like it is. During my Legendary run, I killed the Grunts and Jackals/Skirmishers on the right side and just booked it past the Elites. I figured it could work on Mythic too, but was too chicken to try it (the deload was too safe to ignore). Nerves of steel, man. Solid run.

Sorry Mike. =(

A while back, there was mention in a Weekly Update about possible weekly Mythic challenges in the near future. Hopefully once the guide has been fully released (all nine chapters), then they will take it more seriously.

Long Night of Solace REALLY makes me hate my life. I just spent 50 min getting up to the control room, nice and slow, but died BOXING right before it... the j;asdflasdfl; concussion rifle blew up a plasma grenade at the foot of the box that shot right at me and killed me.

First time to the control room, and I kill myself before the fun starts. This sucks.

Don't worry, you can still try it again. In my one of my try at it, I was trying to rocket the rangers from the ledge and it hit the wall in front of me, killing me...

Nope. Bungie missed a big oppurtunity with the cR system to really incentivise speedruns, score runs, and high difficulty runs in the campaign.

I think most of us have done something like that. I definitely remember blowing up to some chain-reacted plasmas before. I get super-paranoid in some sections now, and I would often methodically clear areas of plasmas if I know I'm going to have to fight around the area.

I knew not immediately loading the enemies in the second smelting room could be of some benefit! I haven't seen the trap yet, but I'm sure it's amazing.

The ultra is not that hard; he's a dual wielder which means he doesn't throw grenades and he also doesn't charge you. I guess you can die to him if you're careless. If you're tired at that point in the level, you have no chance at the end.

Speed running tactics are good. They stop stress and they lower the difficulty, both of which are good.

I'm waiting to see what kind of trap you guys can make for the camo sword elite. I would try for myself, but I'm married to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and she's nagging me to spend more time with her.

EDIT: Tyrant, are you literally color-blind as you said in Twitter? If yes, what is that like?

I am indeed. For me, some colors blend very easily with others and they become extremely difficult to distinguish. The bugger caves in PoA drive me nuts every time because I get lost very easily...

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

I can't believe how good you are at Campaign if you're color-blind! Maybe being color-blind gives you your talent! I need to find out how to become color-blind, maybe using this- OH MOTHER -blam!- THAT BURNS!

I hope that causes some lulz =)
