Yeah. The Pahat era.

Now we have no one to look up to. Well, we have me, but I'm trying to be more discreet.

I'll look up to you the day you finish PoA in <33:12.

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Twenty-ninth Halo 3 Mythic Conqueror
Eleventh Halo 3: ODST Mythic Conqueror
Fifth Halo: Reach Mythic Conqueror

What happened to that Pahat guy? He made everything easier.

Tyrant, now that you've completed Mythic, do you plan to play through the campaign again on Mythic to try to improve your runs like you did with Halo 3?

The reason I did it with Halo 3 was because a year after the guide came out, a plethora of new tactics were discovered both by myself and others for each mission. To not have made a 2.0 guide would have been an insult to the community. Of course, the main difference between then and now is that I was the first to do Halo 3 (exluding Pahat of course) where as for both ODST and Reach, others were doing this along side me so that various tactics are found the first time around.

Personally, as great as Reach is, I'm very tired of the campaign and am ready to move on to something else.

As for Pahat, even though we was technically the first to beat Halo 3 on Mythic, I'm pretty sure that in terms of making things easier, it was the other way around ;-)

Look at it this way, Gazas; everyone who forms a working strategy for a level creates a pathway for those who follow. It's not just Pahat who lead the way in Halo 3, because his strategies and techniques weren't the only ones we used. The Mythic community as a whole made the path (the guide).

...plus every game has its own version of Pahat; the 1st conqueror of that game. Pahat in Halo 3, myself in ODST, and Legendary Smile in Reach.

...now if we just had a fourth Halo game with Mythic possible, and you took all the 1st conquerors from the past campaigns, that would be my ideal vision of Team Mythic, but given that Pahat is kind of a recluse, I think we could go with the 2nd conqueror from Halo 3...after all, its weird to have Team Mythic without Tyrant...or without me, for that matter, since I've been in each iteration as well.

While we're reminiscing about the past, though, I remember when I began Mythic. I was so psyched when I cleared my second mission (Halo) and got to Cortana and came face to face with the dreaded Tank Form! No sarcasm. Back at the time, Tyrant and Starocean pretty much advised to avoid them like the plague.

But me being...well, me, and going by the experiences I'd had with them on Legendary figured "the Sword works well on Legendary and is a one hit kill, so it would follow that it is also still the most effective weapon against them on Mythic." So I tried it and got my technique down and posted about it only to be treated like a madman. I exaggerate, of course, but Tyrant and Starocean just didn't believe it could be so simple. So I provided a clip and the idea of using the sword against Tank Forms became the means of fighting them off.

And after that, Tank Forms went from...well, they pretty much got a similar drop in difficulty that the Four God Elites of the Apocalypse received. This kind of process repeated itself over time in Halo 3.

Tyrant: Don't do it, Vince! It's a Hammer Chieftain!
Vincent: I've got this...I can assassinate him. I've done it plenty of times.
Tyrant: *sighs in frustration*
Chieftain: BLARGH! *swing and a miss, whacked in the back*
Vincent: ...told you.
Sierra 117 completed on Dual-Mythic.

When we think back about it now, it seems so simple. Why didn't we think of it sooner? Now Hammer Chieftains are a joke...well, not as much in Reach. The old tactic resurfaces in Reach, although using the Needle Rifle and Plasma Pistol totally takes the cake for approach against a Chieftain.

I disagree. Being first doesn't make you the best at said game. Pahat was (and still remains to be) best because he was so good at executing everything perfectly, I'd say he was best at ODST, too. Being first simply means you were first, nothing else. Each conqueror is as good as the next, after all, we've all completed it.
It's a bit unfair to class people better than others when we've all been through and accomplished the same feat. The only exception being Pahat, of course. Because well, he is Pahat. Speedrunning, high scoring etc doesn't make a player any better either. It just means they've adapted the run slightly in favor of speed or score and have been able to execute a run doing so.

It's not like we're 100% serious, me and Dark like to treat him like people treat Chuck Norris. I had a picture of Chuck Norris once and Dark said "Why do you have a picture of Pahat?"

I didn't mean to make it sound like Pahat "made the path" for all the people who completed the game, because that's completely false, no beginner would learn from him as much as he would from say, Tyrant's guide.

BUT, Pahat was still the best player of us all back then.

So RC, he actually was mythical back then, mainly because it took us 1-2 hours to complete the missions while he only took half an our or less, and if he wanted to he could beat them over and over and over again while the average Mythic player would struggle (at least I did). But as we became better, he became less impressive. And when I say that we "looked up to him" I just mean that he was that much better than us back then.

Why do we praise him now? Well, when Chuck Norris turns 90 people are still gonna make Chuck Norris facts ;)

This is just how I see it...

What are you on about? The only Halo 3 speedrun he doesn't hold is Cortana, which Nak3d Eli has. Every other mission he holds the record for. He also holds every high score record for every mission.

Here's hoping when your Mythic guide is finished Bungie will finally release the Mythic challenges they've supposedly cooked up for Reach.

Twenty-ninth Halo 3 Mythic Conqueror
Eleventh Halo 3: ODST Mythic Conqueror
Fifth Halo: Reach Mythic Conqueror

I remember when I started Mythic. Summer of 2009: Tyrant's Summer Mythic Recon Challenge. This was the one opportunity where I actually had a reasonable chance of getting recon armor. The only problem was that I had just moved and the TV wasn't set up yet. So, I dug through some of my boxes and pulled out my capture card. I must have died fifty times on that level; it never occurred to me that I could practice without Iron on. Despite my capture card's constant frame loss, I toughed through that level.

I didn't win, nor could I complete Sierra 117 in time, but still good times!

He used to hold some in ODST as well, if memory serves correct. Also, you forgot that he doesn't hold the record for Floodgate anymore.

Gazas pretty much summarized the relation between Pahat and the Mythic community.

He didn't speedrun any mission except Coastal in ODST. And yes, Floodgate also. Anyway, enough of the Pahat talk.

"Where does he get off calling a demolition op Priority One-" *BAM!*

New Alexandria done. Finally managed to get off my ass and attempt it and I beat it on my second try.

Two missions left, both Solo and Co-Op.

Oh man. I wasn't doing Mythic, but I was running through WC with a lot of skulls on (all gold but Iron) to get that 25k for the challenge today easy. Anyway, I was checking something on my computer while I waited for Kat to open the damn door. I look up as the door closed and there was an elite inside the room with us! The spartans had him surrounded so he never got a hit on me, but I guess it's a good idea to pay attention there. lol

When the next section started, I saw another thing that never happened to me before as well. I stayed at the back right corner right by where you start, and blew the 3 tanks. I normally snipe the zealot from there, but I forgot Tilt was on. I tossed a frag at him. He rolled forward and started beating on Jorge. Run in for the kill. Damn thing usually runs away, so that was pretty nice.

What a bust. The second I heard "25k" and "all skulls" my heart leaped out of my chest thinking Bungie had finally stepped up their game.

In reality, the challenge is only worth 2,500 credits and has nothing to do with skulls, but rather points. Ouch.

Sommat like this?

Also: I'm really dense sometimes. Completely missing perfect oppurtunites that are right in my face. Such as grenade jumping up the cliff (vid rendered) on the right side of Boneyard to get past the first area with no deloads and no kills. Pretty reliable once you get the placement of the grenade and the angle of the jump down.

I was having trouble just running straight down the right side of the first area on my Legendary Speedrun attempts; Skirmishers kept de-shielding me and then I got blasted by Elites. Frustrated, I eventually remembered; Oh yeah, I can do a grenade jump, and *OMG* I can go up this wall! *facepalm*

That clip is with all 13 skulls and Legendary difficulty from Rally Point Alpha. It even shows a speedrun path that'll get you straight through the second half of Boneyard too without killing anything either.

Note: You can use the laser by the health pack and take out the Shade and Ghost that are on the right side and then get into the Core room that way as well. But I found going over to the left was ultimately quicker and more reliable.

I've got a 15-minute Legendary speedrun planned (that'll be AWESOME btw!) that'll use this grenade jump, so you can consider this a preview if you like :P
