Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

I was going to hold it back until I beat Exodus, but I'm not selfish enough to do that.

I'll be incorporating your start to the mission with Depleted's end in my run. Your Jetpack jump to assassinate that first Chieftain was beautiful but your ending was pretty sloppy in comparison IMO (you nearly got owned by that Brute with the Spiker as you were jumping for the red button).

How goes it with LNoS?

I agree. Hopefully this trick will make the last bit easier.

Long Night is a pain to say the least, but I think I'm finally starting to get a feel for it. Space combat can be a bit unforgiving at times when trying to engage a fighter, then getting dogged by two or three others (but only once the FIRST one has downed shields) all of a sudden as they seem to lose interest in the sabres actually attacking them...

The trick to space is to not be afraid to stop chasing the current kill and be prepared to drop it and fend of your pursuers.
Also one of my fellow Sabres failed in my run; he crashed directly into Anchor 9...
How did he ever get a pilot's licence?

  • 11.07.2010 1:24 PM PDT

Mm...that means there's only one Chieftain that actually needs to be dealt with. Well, not really so much. I kind of avoided him once he was the only one left. Guess I should go get to LNoS again...I just need to remember not to let my guard down in that hallway, just in case a Grunt gets stuck out of sight again.

My guess would be the same way Kat got her driver's license...

Jesus, not even funny...ever since Halo 2 I've thought that the AI driving would get better by the next game.

Okay, question for Tyrant about Exodus.
In your run, you assasinate the Fuel Rod chieftain at the landing pad with no issues at all. However, whenever I try, the grunts spot me and the chieftain spins and finishes me. How do I get in without him seeing me. And after dropping him, where do i run to?

I just had the same issue in a practice run. I can only suggest that you do it fast.
Then again it's not really a problem since it takes minimal effort to reach the landing pad anyway.

Anyway, after dropping him I walk backwards while chucking grenades then fly up to the balcony which will spawn the Shades and Phantoms. Then I just hide around a corner until the Phantoms are gone so I can kill the Shades and FRG Grunts. Everything else is easy pickings and the Troopers will also turn up to lend a hand.

Okay, I'll try it. I guess if he spots me, I'll just have to redo it. I died alot on the level today, only because of my impatience. Solace is still affecting me. :P

I know all too well how much it sucks to have an assassination ruined...and I can say that there are times that even if the Grunts don't notice you, the FRG Chieftain will, despite having his back turned. I don't know why, but Chieftains seem to have particularly good senses...enough that they can sometimes tell when someone is coming up behind them.

Good as those senses are, they're not perfect. I prefer the older method merely because it's never given me trouble...that and once you learn the Chieftain's behavior once he runs out of allies, it's rather easy to blindside him with the Hammer and keep knocking him around until he falls off. At the very least, there is a much easier way to get up there without having to perfect jetpacking across that large gap that still allows the same opening at the Chieftain. Like I said, though, it's just a matter of preference...I don't like putting things to chance on Mythic; the possibility of the Chieftain noticing me does not bode well.

Thanks for the tip. I have a safe jetpacking method, but I may just try your slow and steady tactic on him instead. How would one go about hammering him into oblivion?

In regards to one of his allies seeing you and ruining the moment, it all depends on where the Grunt on the right is located. If the pillar is blocking his view, the Chieftain won't see you (unless you do something to make him aware). If the Grunt is in view, move further to the right to make yourself less noticable.

First you have to clear the building once you get up there. Upon reaching the first level, the nearby enemies will spawn in. On the second level, just around the bend of the building from the side you come up on will be two Brutes. Normally their backs are turned, but they tend to move around. Sometimes they backpedal. I usually make sure I have Plasma Grenades prepared while slowly moving around until I get them in view. These two seem to be attention deficit, because despite being no further than one foot from the other, I managed to perform an assassination on both. However you deal with them, looking out over the pathway that you would normally cross, three Grunts should eventually meander out in to sight. Your ODSTs and troopers should eventually show up, but you'll want to deal with those Grunts first, lest they kill your somewhat useful distra-- I mean "troopers". Once those Grunts are gone, the Fuel Rod Grunts will come out. Try not to be too close to the rails, because they can hit you easily enough with splash damage. As I said before, the troopers should be around at this point, but they'll be keeping their distance. If it looks like they're watching something, that's your indication to take a look. Once the Fuel Rod Grunts are dead, two Jackals will oh so slowly come see what's going on. After killing one, the troopers will rush the building. Once the Jackals are dead, you'll need to jump down to get to killing the other stuff, as this is the best angle. There will be two Brutes hanging around the doorway on the left (coming from the normal route) that you can DMR from safety. Killing one usually causes the second one to come out of the building, and there will be plenty of civilians and troopers to distract him long enough for you to get a decent amount of distance to safely finish him off. After that you need to clear out three or four Grunts from the building near the entrance. Just don't go inside. Once they're dead, step inside and listen for "Clear the pad, Spartan!" and some music. Jetpack up to the top level and watch the far door.

While you're inside, you can see through all the windows to the outside. All that arrives in the wave of reinforcements from the Phantom are two Jackals, the Hammer Captain, and 2 Shades. Hammer Captain will come inside and you can just kill him rather easily, but a word of advice: if he comes up the stairway and you're on the third level, he can kill you by doing an attack midjump; it's happened to me, so don't go thinking you're safe because of height advantage; he will throw grenades, albeit rarely. If he starts getting toward the stairs, hop down to the top and work around the outer path so you can shoot at him again. The Shades are easy to deal with, obviously. For whatever reason they explode when the operator leaves the shade or dies. A relatively close rocket explosion, as demonstrated by Legendary Smile, will do enough damage to scare the Grunt out of the turret. That is all well and fine, but then the operator is wandering about. Instead, I like going up to the upper balcony, using a frag grenade to break the glass on the railing, and crouching up against a pillar for a brief moment to get a headshot on the operator. Then I get away from the pillar and move over to the other one while making sure to stay away from the ledge, lest the Chieftain spot me. After getting to the next pillar, its just another rising headshot before going back in to the building and making sure the Jackals are dead. Now comes the Chieftain. Going up to the top level, work you way to the right pillar on the side the shades were on. Usually the Chieftain will be rambling on about something, and walking around in a pattern that is much like a triangle (not a perfect triangle, though). He'll go from the shade on the right toward the shade on the left, then out by the ledge, back to the shade. What you want to wait for is when you start seeing him going to the left shade. Once you have him in sight, hop down as he's walking and make a beeline for him. By the time he stops, you'll be right up close. Swing. Depending on how close you are, he may fly rather nicely off the building or just land a little bit away from where he was. Just keep pursuing him, not letting him stay on the ground for long, as he won't fire while airborne, and always get as close to him as you can before he touches down. This is to trigger him to rage so he'll be trying to get close to you instead of firing.

Good job! Did you use the Pelican at the end or the Falcon?

  • 11.07.2010 5:25 PM PDT

I think I may have found a friendly Elite, similar to the Grunt I made a film with. Either that or he's really, really bad at fighting, but since I've never seen an Ultra let me circle around him that much without any retaliation, I think it might be that he's friendly. I'll investigate tomorrow after I get a new controller. The Y button on my current control sticks pretty badly, so I can only register one press every three seconds or so...the unresponsiveness makes it feel like my weapon won't change. Can't stand it.

Naw, I actually was just trying to see how it would turn out if I used a falcon instead, and I ended up beating the level. I really wish I just used the pelican instead, as the coolness factor would have been much higher.

Twenty-ninth Halo 3 Mythic Conqueror
Eleventh Halo 3: ODST Mythic Conqueror
Fifth Halo: Reach Mythic Conqueror

I didn't finish POA this weekend as there are a few things holding me back.

For one thing, I don't have the intuition you guys have, so I don't know when it's safe to make a mad dash for the window near the hunters. They'll have their backs turned, but they'll turn around as soon as I jump down. Switching to Hold to Crouch made the jump easier, thanks RC Master.

I'm also having trouble with the landing pad. I can't shoot brutes and check my right flank at the same time; this makes me vulnerable to plasma grenades. I'm really tired at that point! Also, I've only been using my needle rifle against brute minors and chieftans; I'm afraid that if I use it on the captains, I won't have enough for the chieftans. Is this a good strategy, or should I use my needle rifle on captains?

On the plus side, I figured out how to make the dual plasma rifle elite in the sword elite room a lot easier: Grab a plasma pistol and DMR. Head up the right side while staying scoped on the door with your DMR. As soon as the door opens, immediately open fire on the grunts. If you do it right, the elite should hold still until you run around a bit more; you can then easily drop him with the plasma pistol. He'll start moving again if you run back around to the left side, so stay still and so will he.

Gross, it's your dead skin cells and sweat that's sticking the button. I hope you didn't put the brush in your mouth.

For me, alcohol swab is the way to go.

You do realize that every toothbrush in a house isn't necessarily used for brushing teeth right? Although apparently Vince used his.

Shadow, me and Dark got reverted to last save right after completing it with the Pelican. Then with the Falcon it worked. Does it work solo because I'm not gonna risk it when I do my solo run, I'll just use the Falcon.
