After many, many, many frustrating deaths due to randomness, Exodus has been completed. This puts me at 6/9 with New Alexandria next!

Congratulations! Randomness does suck; POA is a testament to that.

People are really burning through these levels! I'm starting to think someone else besides me or RC Master will snag fourth place on the conqueror's list!

Off topic: Methanol swabs are awesome for cleaning stuff. Water has too many electrolytes in it to clean electronics, but methanol isn't an electrolyte. You could therefore bathe a laptop turned on in a tub full of methanol and it would run completely fine. I've also heard that it's even ok to soak electronics in water as long as they're off when you do it and they're completely dry when you turn it back on, but I'm afraid to test it myself. EDIT: Nevermind, I'm using isopropyl, not methanol. The above still stands. Also, I'm confused when the wikipedia article for methanol says it, "tastes sweeter than ethanol." This means someone would have to have put it in their mouth and swish it around, potentially absorbing some of it. Although it seems stupid, it's not, because it's for science.

Well, good night, people. I hope my subconscious processes how to run past hunters and how to dodge plasma grenades more efficiently, while I sleep.

I'm hoping for slot number 7. Just because it's the number 7.

Also, this.

NA is real easy. Seriously, I should have been able to do it my first try, if it weren't for my fascination with the Pelican. Just keep Page 12 close by for RC's side quest guide, and if you have one that isn't on his list, send me a message with the objective, and I can probably point you in the right direction.

I'm really enjoying Exodus because unlike LNoS I get the feeling that I'm in control of my own fate again. I know people are saying there's a lot of random stuff but everything seems safe enough so far and the initial Brute skirmish and defending the Traxus tower are both really fun encounters, I love blindsiding the Brutes to get assassinations.

Plus the setting of the mission is awesome. This is what the Earth missions on Halo 2 should have been like: - Wreckage, flames, plenty of invading Covenant dropships and civilians caught in the chaos.

The Falcon flight is also awesome because you simply can't save everyone. Puts things into perspective for once whilst also showcasing the savagery of the Brutes.

ANyway, I'm hoping to get Exodus done tonight and maybe New Alexandria too.

Halo 3 Mythic Conqueror #11
ODST Mythic Conqueror #2
Reach Mythic Conqueror #2
Halo: CEA Mythic Conqueror #1
Halo 4 Mythic Conqueror #1

I'm going through Mythic again to try and improve my times etc on the missions and to incorporate more updated tactics so that people who choose to download my films won't be waiting ages fastforwarding through the whole thing.

Anyway, Nightfall is my first redone mission. I still opt for camo instead of sprint as camo imo is far more valuable, cause once the covenant know you're there, your chances of survival diminish considerably. I also incorporated the forklift glitch to remove all the enemies.

Film

Yeah, I'm going to spend some time on an easier difficulty (like Legendary) just flying around and getting the layout of the city down. I honestly think that's the only thing that will really cause me trouble.

Yeah, I quit just before the class changes, it's too damn expensive. However, my membership didn't run out until the beginning of this month, so I checked out the new class system and it sucked so hardcore. Kinda made me laugh.

A friend of mine just broke Exodus.
Actually he smashed into little pieces, this is as good as the Pelican turret on LNoS:

Once you land in Carcalla Parc commandeer your troopers' Warthog and drive it straight up the ramp into the fire control building. Park it against one of two doors on the back wall. Then go and get the second Warthog from near the water's edge and block the other door.

Behind these two doors is a room where the last wave of enemies including both Chieftains spawn and they're all too dumb to move the 'hogs with force.

Game over.

EDIT: Here's the film (only 34 minutes) if anyone would care to render it.

Bull****

lol. Good find, and thanks for including us in on the find :-)

Heh, I was going to post my find for this today as I only beat Exodus last night (that mission's "been a pain in my ass for too damn long!") but you beat me to it.

Parking both the Hog's to block the doors works to keep the Chieftain pair, and the few jackals that spawn behind the doors later too, trapped. Just make sure you don't tread too near to the door to the "final switch room" when you're parking the Warthog against the near door - as like Vince said it will trigger the Cheiftains doors to open early.

Anyway, with Exodus and The Package done it's 7/9 for me. Time for a Long Night!

Also, congrats to Aura and Dark for conquering - and everybody else who's getting there. :)

We need a new way of dealing with Long Night's Focus Rangers. What I've seen so far is sh**ty and impractical for the average gamer. It can take several minutes to get one's shields down, and unless you have a monster-size TV, you won't know unless you zoom in every few shots.

We need to figure out a way to close the gap...

I have a monster sized TV and still zoom every few shots to see how their shields have flared.
Hologram distracts them for ages though. Maybe enough to land overcharged shots if you time it right.

@Santerini:
The Chieftains won't open the doors if you block them before activating either of the AA batteries. Block everything first and then activate the two switches.

Well, the Elite turned out to be not so friendly. Sadface.

It's no more impractical than range-shooting in Halo 3. I'd actually advise firing an overcharge and then follow up with the Needle Rifle. Just make sure the shot clears wherever you're firing from so you don't get hit with an EMP.

That's a shame. I'm sure there'd have been a use for him (like infinite shield recharge via melee since his shields would recharge in between blows.)

You could always melee a crate along the floor and stay crouched behind it... I've used that tactic a couple times in various runs to get closer to enemies without them seeing me. You'd have to be careful about positioning though, once you get close enough the focus riflers will be able to see you from the ledge.

There isn't many ways I don't think. Either than Needle Rifling them completely. Or using charged/non charged Plasma Pistol Shots. I used Charged Plasma Pistol shots in my run.
I did a practice run of trying to get near them to beat them down with a Sword + Drop Shield combo before, but it was crazy hard.

I could see a sprint/sword combo working if you went around the right side of the hangar, but then you run the risk of one of them falling off and running up behind you on the ramp while you fight the other.

Lol I KNOW! I just did the same. It's all getting prepared for Cataclysm, so everything is weird. I signed in and was like "... wtf..." Everything's changed. Grom or whatever is the new leader of Orgrimar, as Thrall died or whatever. I'm still piecing together everything that's happened.

Er guys? Try to keep it on topic...
Talk about WoW in the group or via PM, just don't risk this thread getting locked. I've seen some good threads get locked for very little lately and this is actually a positive one.

@Sangheilioz:
I'd offer to try out sprint+sword, but there are two complications:
1.) I'd have to start from the beginning of LNoS again. Not happening any time soon.
2.)Unless you're holding the Sword when the doors tot he hangar open it will despawn immediately along with anything that didn't spawn inside the Corvette in the first place (in my case it was my DMR).

From personal experience I'd say Sprint helps for getting to the each Elite quicker and to escape around a corner quicker. That's just me though, and it's not that bad.

Ugh. That was tense. My encounter in the Comms room went nowhere near expected. It all started with the second Elite who is supposed to jetpack up on top of the ship. He didn't want to come up there, so I had to drop down on to the rail that runs atop the room, jump back up and watch all my troopers get slaughtered. I looked around for where the Elites were at and went back to the rail. Picked off one and spotted one right near him. I ran over but got spotted and had to use the sword to take out the Dual-Wielder. Managed to eventually take out a 4th, and at this point all that was left was the last Dual-Wielder (who got stuck behind a Plasma Rifle crate) and a guy with a Plasma Repeater, who I could not spot. I went around the outside, eventually ending up in the junction opposite the hall to the hanger and found him hiding out of sight of the other spots. On instinct, I ran over to the Hologram, deployed it and waited. He started shooting away at it...and before it broke I deployed a second. He continued firing. The second Hologram died and I waited a second or two, deployed a third and he finally rushed in at it. 5 down. Then I grabbed a Plasma Rifle and did a sort of corner shot type move on the Dual-Wielder. Hallway is now clear, but the Elite got away because I didn't have a Plasma Pistol available.

The Comms room very rarely goes as expected, just be glad that you got through in one piece. The next sticking point is the Focus Rifle Ranger pair and the cannon control room + bridge.

Good luck.

The two Ultras guarding the hanger exit managed to kill me. Jorge managed to hold their attention for a very brief moment, and the Elite starting backing up toward me but then turned at the very last moment to face me. To make matters worse, the other Ultra decided to join in on his rage.

Edit: Oh man, that was funny.

You should have been patient. If you would have waited it bit, he would have jet packed up. This happens quite frequently. He won't stay down there, he likes space.

Carter isn't in the hangar. But those elites suck. Seriously. I tried using hologram and going around the left, but it doesn't work consistently.

There are two full ones underneath the platform in the middle.

Wow, you're a beast. I'm looking forward to beating Pillar because that means I don't have to play this god-awful difficulty again, but you play the difficulty not for the end result, but for the difficulty itself. You play for fun. I respect that. I play because I want to finish the damn the thing so I can move on with my life.

I know he's not. I heard that at the beginning of the level.

There are two full ones underneath the platform in the middle.

The door to the hanger was already open before I finished off all the Comms room guys, so going down there to grab one would have been suicide. I know they're there - I'm just not stupid enough to go grab one when there are three Grunts and an Elite so close.

No black and white in the blue.

I got to the end of Exodus for the first time today only to be killed by the second Wraith. I'd beaten the first one down via camo, driven the flipped Warthog to block the Chieftains' doors and returned to the area below the first AA battery when the second Wraith, after not shooting for about a minute, somehow "sensed" where I was and blew me sky high. Son of a -blam!-.

During all of my deep LNoS runs, I pop-shot the Rangers with plasma pistol overcharges from the left ledge, and it never took more than 4 shots (usually just 2 or 3, I think it took 4 only once). I hid behind the pillar next to the Needle Rifle crate and very quickly popped out and back behind the pillar to see where they were. If they were standing still to the right of the pillar attached to their ledge, I charged my plasma pistol, popped out, fired, retreated back behind the pillar, waited for the shot to hit, peeked back out to see if my target's shield was flaring, and fired away with the Needle Rifle until he died. As long as I never popped out too far from the pillar, the Ranger wouldn't dodge the overcharge. It's imperative to aim at the right-most Ranger, or the other one can easily kill you. If I took too much damage while popping out, I retreated behind the pillar and deployed the drop shield. If the Rangers wouldn't stand still, I put a few Needle Rifle rounds into them and waited behind the pillar for about 10 seconds. This method can be seen in the run in my file share. I could render a clip if anyone thinks it'd be worth it.

Vince: That happened to me a few times, too. If I didn't move much while I waited, he just stood there. When I circled the energy shield, he eventually jumped into space.
