I was just wondering why this appears on the Bungie.net homepage under "forums" and also on the homepage of any group.

Is it a technical problem, or have super-threads like Weekly What's Update in NM made Most Popular Thread a thing of the past? Does anyone know what the plans for this feature (or others like it) are in the future?

There were performance issues with the most popular thread. Its there, only for remembrance.

It was usually just the Halo Movie Thread anyway.

For most of the time I was here, it was the Myth TFL/SB thread in the Underground.

I'll be on my own side.

It was always the Halo movie thread, although it changed every so often for a couple days. If a thread is really that popular, you'll see it on the forums anyway, so it's unnecessary.

Well sometimes on the group pages it told you how active their forum was. but yeah it has been like that for a while. Mabey a search would replace it.

I remember there being a "thread of interest" link. Perhaps that would be something easier to maintain (by forum mods maybe?) and be more informative than the same Most Popular Thread all the time.

It is shut off because there is a horrible performance bug in the bad word filter, of all places. The fix is unfortunately very complicated and very deep inside the guts of the forum software. Once the bug is fix, the entire site will probably get a small speed bump, and the most popular thread will go back to normal.

Incidentally, the reason it is like that is because that was the quickest way to disable it without changing a bunch of other code.

I hate it when theres a bug in one of the central components of my code...especially the kind that requires a re-write of a large portion of the other code connected to it, and then you need to pray that fix didn't cause a bug in one of the other peices of affected code...I'm working on an Honours BSc in Computer Science, specifically programming, I'm thinking B.net would be a nice place to work on, I love debugging, in spite of my origional statment, if my task is debugging, I love it, I won't go into more detail on the seeming paradox of me hating and loving debugging at the same time as it would likely cause the rest of you to fall asleep if you already have not.

I had just thought Frankie or more likely Shishka had gotten tired of seeing the Halo Movie Thread as the B.net most popular thread and just decided to turn off that feature. :P

Which is why I think a manual "Thread of Interest" link would be much more... interesting.

Not really.

You'd spend most of the time keeping the Webmaster out of the server room.

You mean the "Free Beer this ------> way" signs that were pointing away from the server rooms didn't work?

He's lazy and drunk, not stupid. It would've worked if you'd actually put beer (and a Mickey Finn or two) somewhere past that sign.

-- Steve thinks the Webmaster is starting to get a tolerance for the Mickey Finns now... *shudder*

I was reading the stuff on bnet long before becoming a member. I remember seeing that box work a long time ago. It seemed as if the link contained led to a land filled with milk, honey, and SMG's.

well, it wasn't always the movie thread. i don't want to brag at all, but at one point (just before that thing stopped working, actually), my thread was there. of course, i don't know that it really matters, because most people don't go check out the most popular forum. they go see the ones they like.
