Ok I know I'll get flamed to hell but here gos.

Tis has to do with E3 being scripted. I have watched three videos that have brought me to the conclusion the E3 was complety scripted. First of all, I have watched both the publicly released halo 2 real time demo and the Halo 2 demo displayed at Micrsofts E3 confrince. If you have seen both of these you will notice several things that are diffrent. The timing, firing, and various other examples are jut small thing, what really gives it away is the brutes. in the public demo the timing and attacts are perfect. However at E3 you will notice that once they reach a certain point they STOP MOVING, STOP ATTACKING, AND JUST LET THEM SELVES GET THE HELL BEAT OUT OF THEM. This happens with the brute that attacks the warthog and the ones that get blown up by the car chief shot... I think thats a pretty resonable argument.

And the final reason is because in the video The Evolution of Halo says that E3 was "completly scripted, no ai at all." The truth comes out!" Both are quotes from the video...

Brutes had grunt AI

The fact that the Brutes stop moving is a sign that their AI is incomplete, but is not evidence that they were scripted to stand there and wait to be shot.

And the commentary about the completely scripted E3 demonstration was the E32k1 demo, I believe. It was the one they were running around in as they were saying that the demo was completely scripted.

However, Bungie has pointed out that there are no scripts in the E3 demo, and they wouldn't lie about it.

Your right, that's why the game wasn't finished then, it was far from it. That's why they are still working on it. A.I. was far from done then, and they weren't making a demo to be played by us, they were making a demo to show people how good the game can look, and that the graphics we'd seen could be done in realtime in actual gameplay. Of course they scripted it to look a certain way, for the characters to behave a certain way in the demo. They wanted to make it look as good as possible, and actual A.I. would have increased the chance that whoever was doing the demo would have missed something they wanted us to see, and/or it wouldn't have looked as smooth. Not to mention it would have took them longer to get the A.I. in there. If I remember correctly they were a little rushed completing the demo and getting what they wanted in it.

Why would Bungie lie, just think of it that way...it's just stupid to.

The Brute stopped moving so that the guy playing the game could demonstrate the new combi-melee attack.
