Subject: Different ways to play

I was playing Halo: CE today when I found you could do the tank section using ghosts and sniper rifles instead of tanks and rocket launchers. It put the area in a whole new light, as you scrambled between weapons caches and ran rings around wraiths (try saying that with your mouth full.).

Does anybody else have any novel ways of playing through parts of Halo? This goes for any game, I just didn't know what thread to put it in.

For AotCR I like to ditch the tank and just use the old warthog. With good driving and a chaingunner you can get through checkpoints faster and catch the enemy before they effectively fight back. I like to run over the pair of invisible elites in the bottom of that tall tower that guard the active camo.
For that matter you can even snag the early Banshee and fly your way through the next sections.

HCE is usually far nicer than its successors in terms of options when approaching standard vehicle combat. Most notably, you actually have the option of just flat-out not using vehicles. This is very fun in AotCR, though arguably tougher than playing it normally, especially since Bungie thought ahead to assist the players who opted to take that route and dropped enough ammo along the way.

I loved finding those weapons caches. My favourite one was the sniper at the far right of the underground chamber, which let you destroy most of the other side before they even knew they were there. Sure beat trying to negotiate that choke point.

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

I always play the same way. :(

Except on the Silent Cartographer. Sometimes I deactivate the security system first.

The true fun of Combat Evolved is figuring out new ways(yourself)to broaden gameplay. With a little luck and careful avoidance of checkpoints you can drive the warthog down to the map room and exit the vehicle before the doors shut and avoid the security over ride entirely.
I came up with something I called 'Trailer Park Sniper'. You zoom in with the pistol on a distant elite, switch to the Plasma Pistol, charge it up and let fly, before it hits, I switch back to the pistol and one shot the elite in the head before he even knows I'm close enough to be a threat.

I like to ditch the rocket launcher and sniper half way through and take out enemies using other weapons. Ever try to dispose of that pair of hunters on the other bridge without rockets or the sniper? How about taking down a banshee using stickies? Shotgun? Just surviving, by any means at all, 'Belly of the Beast' on Legendary.

In the beginning of metropolis in H2, when you first have to cross the bridge, using the warthog or hijacking a covy vehicle or even goin' foot makes it much different. Especially if you take one of the marines Rocket Launchers and kind of try to tough it out on foot, or try getting into the turret or side seat of the warthog.

Another one would be in Assault on the control room where you walk across the natural bridge with the banshees on it. What usually happens is the banshees get boarded by elites and quickly fly up and attack you, but if your fast enough, you could claim one of the banshees for yourself and have fun bombing infantry, as well as a dogfight and the skipping of a little bit of unnecessary firefighting and walking. Also, if you're too slow and you miss it then you could quickly restart because there's a checkpoint right when you get on the bridge.

Well it is nice to see some more out of the box thinking!

I have done, oh, about 10 or so posts minimum on ways to play the game differently, probably to the annoyance of my fellow Forum guys (and gals). The great thing about CE is the huge variety in game play that it allows. Not using certain weapons, not using vehicles (a great walking game campaign, just a bit sloooooooow due to the size of certain maps!), etc. You are able to find ways to challenge yourself with CE that you cannot really do in H2 (though the skulls are much fun).

If the OP wants some long reading, check out my posts, you may find something you like.
