Always up for REACH customs!

In the last section of the final level before the Warthog run when you have to shoot rockets or grenades into the exhaust port things, why are the Sentinels engaging the Flood instead of focusing attention on the player? Sentinels are under direct control of the Monitor, who was present, and clearly aware of Master Chief's plan to blow up the Autumn and destroy Halo. We know how fanatically protective of the rings 343GS was, so why didn't the Sentinels attack MC only and ignore the Flood until he was killed?

Maybe they had some sort of in-built priority system that told them to go for the Flood in case The Monitor went mad. Which, come to think of it, he did. So it worked!

The flood potentially escaping the Ring might be considered a priority as well. It seems that the sentinels happily lazer anything that moves in the engineering rooms.

"Betcha can't stick it."

I have to say, I do believe that the sentinels have a target recognition and prioritization system within them. Going more into Halo lore, I believe the flood is indefinitely on the top of the lists for the sentinels to take care of by orders of the Forerunners.

Musk

The game probably didn't have that sophisticated AI, as well as that would up the difficulty majorly, making it so that in order to make the encounter survivable at harder difficulties, Bungie would've had to lower the amount of hostiles in the level, therefore making it a much smaller scale, lamer fight.

The priority for the sentinels and the Monitor is to keep the flood from spreading, so if flood are available as targets they go for them. If you are available as a target and there are not any flood shooting at them, they go for you. It might also be that GS probably does not think you will be able to take out the engines, but being as smart as it is you would think it would know not to underestimate the MC! Dumb Monitor!
