Do you think buying a new, bigger hard drive would help? If so I might just do that. You can find them pretty cheap.

So this is interesting. I got a free repair and dropped it off at my UPS Store for packing and shipping (To a Texas Xbox Repair Center). Microsoft recieved it on Thu 09/23/10 at 7:00PM and then 2 hours later shipped it back to me, from MEXICO! Now UPS is telling me I am waiting to clear customs so we will see how long that takes. Oh and my xbox has been on a diet, it weighs 0.3 pouns less now. Well be intresting to see if its the same serial number and if the game plays or not. Has anyone recieved it back from Microsoft yet and does Halo: Reach work?

I have a feeling this has to do with the input of the hard drive and not the hard drive it self. If it works like a normal computer hard drive (just not using SATA) then it could be a bad input on the Xbox 360. It could be writing to the hard drive too slow or just not in the correct way which can cause problems like this one.

I would guess that it is not writing correctly, writing too slow would only cause a slight freezing, not a totally lock up like mine does. If it is writing incorrectly, that could cause the game to freeze 100%, and at the same time I could still talk in Party chat because that in not effected by the hard drive process. Only 1 problem, this would not effect the reasoning for why the USB flash drive won't work either.

The problem also could be the saving process of the Xbox 360. If it is the process of saving this can be a software or hardware issue, or possibly both at the same time. This would explain why changing to a USB flash drive does not work and other saving devices you may have tried.

The saving process would also effect that continuing problem after installing the game to your hard drive. I'm not sure what the disc does when your playing a game that is saved to the hard drive, but again this seems like to be a saving process problem.

now that PS3 and Wii are both out selling XBOX

Where do you get your information from?

Pleas review before spreading false information.

That's a screen shot of current Worldwide totals, and you'll see, Xbox is still ahead of PS3.

Since their releases, yes XBOX360 has outsold PS3 but over the last calendar year the PS3 has been doing more sales then the 360.

xbox may still be ahead in console sales, but that doesn't mean it isn't a lot more competitive now between the companies than it was in the past.

Anyone get their consoles back from sending them in? Are they fixed?

  • 09.28.2010 10:30 AM PDT

A freind of mine has this problem. I would suggest installing the game to your hard drive and then play the disc. This worked for my Modern Warfare 2 disc. Hope this works. Good Luck.

Every game I have reads fine but Reach will not load. No scratches and it won't even get to the point where I can install it to the HDD. It even came up as a DVD a few times...

Urk: If you are experiencing disc read errors with Halo: Reach, please contact customer support at 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and report the issue. As soon as we have more concrete information, we'll update this thread with the next steps.

  • 09.28.2010 10:33 AM PDT

Over the weekend I was loading up Reach multiplayer and the system froze. Tried, again, same thing happened, then I froze twice at the logo screen, and then RRoD.

RRoD ONE DAY past the recall warranty deadline, I might add.

The system had a manufacture date of August 07 and an HDMI port...not sure if it's a Zephyr or a Falcon.

Probably not related to the issue, but I did find it interesting that my system RRoD'd running the same game that is apparently giving lots of problems. I haven't had time to look over the entire thread...did anyone else's system brick while H:R was running?

I should mention I bought a 250GB 360S as a replacement and have had no issues.

following on from my post on page 100
3rd reply on email from support according to this they are "looking into it"

"Thank you for contacting Xbox Support.

There is no resolution as yet. At present all we can suggest is that if this is the only disc not reading that you either exchange through the retailer or contact our support centre to exchange the game disc.

They are looking into resolving the issue as quickly as possible."

UPS says tomorrow for me. I almost don't even care about this game anymore being ****ed on launch night and waiting for my system to get back ever since.

http://kotaku.com/5640070/microsoft-responds-to-halo-reach-di sc-read-errors
Microsofts response to reach: "We are aware of a very small number of customers reporting that their copy of Halo: Reach is causing a "disc read" error. Those affected should contact Microsoft customer support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX for troubleshooting assistance."

Page 91 of the ODST DRE thread, Urk informs us of the response microsoft gives to that issue: "We are aware of a very small number of customers reporting that their copy of Halo 3 ODST is causing a "disc read" error, which cannot be corrected by Bungie. Microsoft is fully prepared to address this issue via customer support. If you are receiving this error, please contact Microsoft customer support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX for troubleshooting assistance."

I love how we get the same answer for the same problem from just over a year ago. All I want to do is play the games I payed for, ODST and Reach.

Wow bungie, for being known/calling yourself a game company that really cares about your customers and has a great customer service; you sure suck at taking care of these customer related issues.

I think I'm done with trying to get any help from bungie. Since about 3 weeks ago when I found I had the DRE with ODST I have made contact with M$ and sent 2 pms to urk. All M$ says is give me more money; all Urk said was... oh yeah that's right, Urk and the other bungie employees don't care so he didn't write back a single word.

Time to file to the BBB like I have seen others do. PLEASE, IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE, AT THIS POINT IT IS TIME TO GET IN CONTACT WITH THE BBB.

Now that my post is over I am going to stop bending over so bungie/M$ will stop sodomizing me, its gotten old and is starting to hurt.

The same deal happened to me. I'm anxious to receive my console, I'll post here as soon as I get it. Let us know when you receive it.

Just an update. My game works fine now, but suddenly today it randomly gives me a green screen (game is installed) and now it can't read any maps, so I had to delete the installed section. It worked installed for 4 days, then back to usual.

Yes. Some people did RRoD while TS the disc but I don't think I've read any posts of people bricking it. Do be wary as people with the new 360 Slims are also experiencing DRE issues with reach which means they really didn't change anything internally other than adding a wifi chip and a built in HD.

I too have a launch console with the original 20gb HD and I think I figured out the problem. Its the 20 gb HD!. With the console off, remove the HD. Restart the console w/o the HD and launch Reach. Start up campaign and it should play through without the error message or green screen popping up. The only problem here is we can't save or login in to our profiles, so ya pretty much pointless. My only question is should I invest in a new HD or is the same thing going to happen if I get the 250 gb. If someone has a launch console with a new HD please let us know if Reach works. I would hate to spend more money. Hopefully Microsoft will figure something out and replace these 20gb HDs. Thx

I had this problem about 2-3 months ago with Halo 3...called Microsoft and turned out to be the 20G hard drive. I went and bought the 250g hard drive and it fixed it. But now Reach gives me problems like only playing one game then having to restart the console.

100 pages, the day of dead rising 2's release, well you guys its been fun, ill check back in every couple of days. for now its time to actually enjoy myself, i guess by pretending each zombie i kill is a microsoft employee

Hear!Hear! I am doing the same! Already forgotten about Reach! Downloaded Plants vs. Zombies the other day to get in the mood for Zombie killing, picked up DR2 today and have already killed several hundred brain munching M$ employees!!

Happy belated 100 pages everyone! Though happy is maybe not quite the right word.

UPDATE: I filed a complaint the other day with the BBB against M$ and today I was called by a M$ rep seeking to make right. I was offered a replacement disc from M$, FREE repair, an apology for my troubles and an assurance that they were aware of the issue and were working to fix it.

However, they apparently still don't seem to know exactly where the issue lies. Game disc, HDD, console hardware, firmware? They don't know. I thanked them and said that I would wait to see what happens before I send in my console. The rep DID NOT discount the possibility of a patch so that may come to pass. In the mean time Chuck Greene and I have Zombies to kill!

P.S. Had some pretty good success with 16 Gb flashdrive. Fewer DREs !

  • 09.28.2010 4:17 PM PDT

To anyone who is filing a complaint with the BBB don't just file it for Microsoft, also file it for Bungie Software because it's also their issue too.

  • 09.28.2010 4:22 PM PDT

Great info, thanks for sharing. I'll be filing a complaint tonight.

If my disk does not work what should I do?

I've never seen the Bungie community so united.

I've had a slightly different problem. I'd been playing the game for a week or so, then found the Xbox didn't like the disc. It simply doesn't read it (I get the "Reading..." message, then "Open Tray" message, with nothing else happening. I went to try the disc in another (two) Xbox(es) but both of them were experiencing troubles of their own and it became more difficult than it was worth.

Microsoft have suggested taking the disc back to the retailer; failing that, they will replace the disc.
