The food chain starts here, get in line.

I just received my replacement Reach from Microsoft. I looked at the disc and didn't notice any kind of blemish on the disc like what was on my old one. So far it hasn't crashed on any of it's old spots. I would tell you guys if at all possible to try and get a replacement disc from Microsoft. I'll update if anything else happens.

Ok I don't know how to say this I just got a Replacement disk in the mail just minutes of this post. As I previously said in this post here. I've contacted 1-800-xbox and was told to send in my old disk.

Thing is I didn't send my old disk in yet!! So what the hell? Now I have "2" Halo Reach Disks!!?? Should I send my old disk in or what? I don't get it.

I just put in in my Xbox and on the first boot it doesn't freeze or DRE. I have yet to test it out again or on the campaign missions I was having issues with.

Mind you I was able play the game before on the old disk but it constantly DRE'ed or Freezes on boot and Campaign missions. Specifically the second Sabre section on the "Long Night of Solace" and the Mongoose section on "The Pillar of Autumn".

Also I have little doubt this addresses the issue of not being able to play Xbox original titles (i.e Halo CE) due to a similar DRE/crash that I've been having with Reach. Which also makes me further believe this is some sort of hardware issue and not a disk issue.

It makes me sad to see people posting the same problems and then even more people posting the same "solutions" that don't work for everybody. I sent my xbox in, they did a free "repair" and I'll be getting it back today. If you did send your xbox in and are curious as to whether its the original, just check the serial number. I know what youre thinking, "how the hell am i supposed to have remembered that?". Well, just check the confirmation email that MS sent you and it'll be in there.

It is sometimes a disc issue

It is sometimes a hardware issue

It is sometimes a firmware issue

There is no one solution for these problems. They need to be approached on an individual basis. Don't settle for some jerry rigged quick fix like swapping your gamertag to a usb or boiling your disc ::facepalm::. Do these things the right way.

Hope that is directed at Bungie and Microsoft. PC versions of games are a mixed bag of compatibility issues, console versions should have no such issues. At least not on the "small scale ahem :) " that MS would have us believe.

Its okay, the refurbished one you get is a fixed xbox. This way it takes much less time to get a box back. The only thing different about the box you get back will be the serial number. Its no big deal.

Is Microsoft replacing the discs? I don't want to send my console...

I think its odd timing that Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is having disc read errors as well.

Alright, I started to load up my game. The Reach loading screen appeared for about 3-7 seconds. Then my TV went to a blank Green Screen, and then the Unreadable Disc Error message popped up.

This JUST happened, do I call 1800-4-MY-XBOX for a possible disc replacement?

I have had this same problem. After finally reading that some people were able to just send the disc back rather than the whole Xbox, I called hoping for that to be the case. After asking me to clear my cache and download the game to the HD, which I had already done, I was told to take the game to the retailer and exchange it for a new one. W... T... F!!???!??

I got mine back from free repair two days ago and I haven't had any problems yet. Seems to be running better on other games also.

So here's an update. I got my disc sent replaced by microsoft themselves, and all was well yesterday. Until today. Now I'm getting disc read errors again. This is so frustrating. I'm just so disgusted by this whole thing. I have to waste more of my time and my money to send in another disc and I bought this game 2 weeks ago.

Alright, So i talked with a guy from microsoft because i filed a BBB complaint with them. As soon as i got on the phone with him, we didn't even discuss the issue he was already saying he will send me a brand new xbox AND a new halo reach FREE of charge. The way he was talkin it made it sound like microsoft was getting a lot of these complaints and they are now taking the right action to correcting it, free of charge. I would HIGHLY reccommend filing a BBB complaint. They get back to you rather quickly, and my agent was eager to correct the situation.

How exactly do you file a complaint? It was a little confusing for me on the site

All fine and dandy if you live in the USA, up the creek without a paddle if you live anywhere else.

This will be my last post to the Bungie.net forum regarding Reach. All right, I give up. You win. I'm disposing of my faulty Reach disc.

I finally struggled through the single player campaign; it was good, but not worth this hassle. I'm done with Reach and I'm sorry I'm missing out on the multiplayer component. Looks fun.

If EVERY OTHER game ever loaded into an almost brand new Xbox 360 S with 250 GB hard drive works, and the Reach disc doesn't; it's a software problem. And yes, I've installed and reinstalled and cleared the cache and done the profile switch.

I'll never buy a launch day Bungie game again. I'll wait a couple months and see if a thread like this shows up first.

It was a relief to finally see a mention on the weekly update. Thanks for throwing us a bone. Too bad it took weeks and weeks and the answer is not an answer.

I will not ship my almost brand new Xbox that has always worked (and I've always been really careful with) to Microsoft to get somebody else's refurbed system.

Good bye all, and good luck.

(and if anyone followed my earlier note on a return from Amazon - they have been great; but they shipped my disc to the wrong address, so it's being returned and another one sent out to me. I'm going to sell that plastic-wrapped one for whatever I can get and wipe my hands of this. Reach isn't worth this hassle.)

So I got a new disc and had just beat the 9th mission and I was diconnected from live and forced to exit to dash, when I signed back in my mission progress had been lost.
I just hot an email fton Microsoft that ygey revieved my bbb complaint am getting a call Monday, I'm gonna lay into these pricks

I'm guessing my post went unnoticed. Read page 104 and wake up! There will be no wonder patch! Your console is broken. Swapping discs won't help, if you think it does that is because your playing from a cold boot, you will still have the same prob 30 mins later, you need a new xbox!

  • 10.01.2010 6:56 PM PDT

Just finished the game on legendary. No Freezing after clearing the cache on the hard drive HOWEVER!!!--- There was mega freezing and "sputtering" on the cutsceans of the end.

I was able to play the game ok, but come on, why the jitter and freezing on the ending movies, those where why I played the whole game on legendary anyway...

  • 10.01.2010 7:29 PM PDT

"We had hoped that the resolution would have been much the same as it had been for users experiencing similar hardware issues around the launches of Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, but it appears that those players who find themselves outside of warranty will be responsible for getting their Xbox 360's up and running again."

Well, gee, I'm kind of glad I filed that BBB complaint against Bungie and Microsoft. You're going to make a console, then you are going to make a game for that console with incompatibility issues and then expect me to foot the bill for the upgrades I need to play the game when other games work perfectly fine?

Nah.

Subject: Disc Not Reading

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum. But I've been getting a lot of "The Halo: Reach server is unavailable" messages. What's more is while I'm playing the game will stop recognizing my player profile. I can still finish the online game, no lag whatsoever, but all of my customizations/logos do not show, it's like I'm playing as a default player.

I've checked my NAT setting which is reading, "Open" and I have opened all of the additional ports for my router. However, there are times when I just cannot connect to the Halo: Reach server.

What makes this more confusing is that this is the ONLY game that this happening with. Halo 3 and Read Dead Redemption run fine. I can download demos from Marketplace with no problem, or voice chat with friends via Live. It seems the problem is exclusive with connecting to the Reach server. I've contacted Live Support 3 or 4 times, and they seem as stumped as I am.

My internet is coming in strong at around 25 Mbps, and I'm uploading at 3 Mbps. I really don't know what to do with to fix this problem. There are times when it works fine and I can play with no problem, other times I can play a few games before I can no longer detect the server. And other times I cannot detect the server at all.

So if there's anyone out there that has experienced a similar problem and knows how to fix it, I would be greatly appreciative of some advice right now. Thanks.

I had an old xbox, disc worked fine for 2 weeks then I got the error. I went and bought an arcade system. Disc worked fine for 2 days, now I'm getting the error again. WTF Bungie. I hope this is resolved soon. Disc looks fine!!!!

  • 10.01.2010 10:56 PM PDT

So once again....some people are getting replacement discs and this is fixing the problem...some are going down the BBB path and this is working for them...what about the people overseas? Microsoft wont give me a free repair as my consoles out of warranty and we dont have anything like BBB here in NZ. Any ideas? 3 weeks now with a dud game and no help from Microsoft or bungie. :(
