This bites...I forgot that my blackberry sends delayed messages so Microsoft didn't recieve my email until the time after they were supposed to call me...this is taking longer than it needs to be. I told them to call me tomorrow on Tuesday, can't I just call them? Someone please tell me if I can because I don't have alot of good times during the week when they can call me.
just call them if they gave you one of those refrence numbers you should be good if not just say you called before and they should be able to find your records

The reference number in the email or what they called me with last time? I tried to call them before but it took too long to find the guy since he stops working at 5pm

yea just got off the phone with xbox and they know NOTHING. havent had a problem until console updates occurred recently. Now having problems with older games and also Halo reach. Personally i think if everyone called/emailed BBB about this issue then something may get done!
obviously they must know there is a problem bc of how many people posted about this problem. MS wants people to send in there xboxs (mine of which just purchased the slim less then 20 days ago, yes 20). had a problem with my original white box and MS wouldnt do anything, now this! How about beta test -blam!- b4 u release it.

It is either your xbox with a disk reading problem, or the game. I would exchange the game for a new copy to see if it makes a difference.

may be a half broken xbox like mine, wont read games even if they are new, when it does read them and you start the game, a window then pops up and says disc unreadable...

That was 2 months ago, i smashed my xbox(the console that is)

Okay this is taking longer than it needs to be. The guy emailed me back and said he was going to call me at 3:15pm to discuss this yet I've recieved no call so far. I tried to call Microsoft and ask for the guy but apparently they can't find him.

I'll try one more time

  • 10.12.2010 12:30 PM PDT

Okay I spoke with someone and they said I'll get a free repair, it's gonna take two weeks but I can wait

  • 10.12.2010 5:48 PM PDT

I can play everything just fine except the Noble Actual cut scene. when i try to install it to my hard drive it gets to 48% then says cannot read disc. i believe i have a launch 360 white and disc tray grey.

  • 10.12.2010 7:10 PM PDT

try cleaning the laser that's what i did and my games read fine

  • 10.12.2010 7:34 PM PDT

Mine stopped working at the end of each match... annoying.. disc is fine and so is my laser eye.

This actually could be a hard drive issue (happened to me). Try playing without it connected. Then call Microsoft Support.

I can say that this method works, I experience the same problem and removing the hard drive helped.

Annoyingly, I can't use Theater or play Firefight and the disc does still get errors but its less often.

oh my gosh do my eyes decieve me or did a bunngie employee actually respond to our posts? did almighty bungie step down from its high, high pedistal to listen to the voice of the common people?

wait a minute why did a bungie employee respond to that simple issue but not to the problem everyone else is having, yea this is becoming bogus.

Im even cool with getting an answer that bungie/MS is aware that many people are having a problem and they are working to resolve it!! Am i the only one that feels like this?

This same problem happens to me, though it has actually gotten worse in the last two days.

I would get the read error at the very start or very end of a match, at the exact point in which I would have seen the Auntie Dot loading screen. Now, it has expended to be at any point in which loading would happen at all, so this now include checkpoints in campaign levels as well, and once just randomly in forge.

I have noticed that these errors are preceded by sound glitches almost always now. If it was going to happen at the start of MM or a custom game, the 321 start beeps would be silent. In a match, any number of sound effects would cease playing, ranging from grenade bounces or the announcer's voice to everything *except* a fuel rod explosion. It's like I am playing the game on mute most of the time.

I've been through the X Box support ring a few times, and I'll just do this in order:
1)I have cleaned the disc, several times. No change.
2)The region is correct.
3)I've tried playing other games, they work just fine, no errors.
4)I've cleared the system cache.
5)I have popped the hard drive and played without it for a while. This also worked.

According to generic support, it's either a bad disc (#3) or a bad drive (#5). I hope both of these aren't the case. My Xbox is one of the Slims, it's about three or so months old - actually check that, it's as old as they can be, I bought one the Friday of E3. Still, that's about three months old. The game disc was a preorder from Walmart.com. I do notice a verrrrry slight discoloration on the bottom of the disc itself, a sort of irregular blob shape. That is the only thing that I see that *might* be the issue. Any thoughts anyone?

I just got off the phone with an *incredibly* helpful Microsoft Support fellow. We went through all the different solutions again, and a few permutations we hadn't thought of before. We were able to hit the error again. He and I came to the conclusion that this is most likely an issue with the game disc itself, since other games work fine, and all the other checkboxes have been marked off.

AND!

One thing that was interesting, was that in the midst of all of this my tech support guy made a brief mention of "this being an emerging problem with Halo Reach". So take that as you will, Ima go over to Walmart and swap discs with them.

Your Face

It would be super amazing if we could get a official statement from Bungie, the game has been out for a month now with this problem.

  • 10.13.2010 4:47 PM PDT

hey, well i'm afraid to do that cause i think my console could be -blam!- but that really works?
