from what i saw off the previous pages it seems like im experiencing the same thing but instead of a green screen or whatever my xbox just freezes. i know its not my xbox overheating cause i fixed that by adding a fan. i intentionally bought reach a month later because i thought that bungie/ms would come have come up with a solution by now, but i guess i was wrong. if installing it on the hdd works (at least for some) then im gonna try that
I'm getting this same problem. I bought the new Reach 360s on launch day, loved it to death for almost a month. Played a lot of Reach (probably 4-6 hours total a day) for this last month and didn't have a problem till just recently. Now my xbox likes to freeze up on me, for no reason whatsoever. I've had it burned to my HDD since day one, and the disc is flawless so I know that's not the problem. I don't get a DRE ever, it boots up fine but when I'm playing live I get issues.
I can normally get to the playlist screen, select a playlist, and get it all loaded up but that's when my problems start. It'll either freeze just as the match is beginning, or about 3-4 minutes into the game. At first I thought it might be because my bandwidth is in the red and says WARNING!, so I tried doing Score Attack which normally works. Well that just froze about 5 minutes ago too, so I know that can't be the issue. When it does freeze, the screen gets all choppy (best way I can describe it), like the disc skipped (which it couldn't have since it's on the HDD).
I was playing Fable II on it earlier for a solid hour without any problems, turned it off and took a nap. Came back to it like 3 hours later, put in Reach and played 1 game of Score Attack before it started to freeze on me. So it seems the Reach is the only game that it freezes for, which makes no sense to me. I just hope I don't have to send in my 360 already, I've had it for a month and a day now. Already called M$ support, and they had me reinstall the dashboard updates and redownload my gamertag yesterday, which seemed to work for the time being. I'm going to try playing again in like 15 minutes and hope it works, and if it doesn't I'll just call the late night crew at M$ and have a nice talk with them. Not too mad, just disappointed I can't keep playing Reach cuz I wanted at least a colonel by the time the cap is lifted
edit - Oh and I know it's not overheating, I use the bottle cap trick to keep it ventilated. It's sitting horizontally on the box it came in, raised on the 4 Dr. Pepper caps; in the middle of my bedroom with nothing around it but the TV. The powercord is all by itself so I know that is ventilated also. Could it be my powersupply itself? I have it on a kinda of crappy strip plug right now, like a really ghetto one. I'm going to go switch it out with my brother's since he only uses his for his phone and clock, and he actually has a really nice one. I'll post back if that seems to help at all.
Edit 2- Well last night I switched the strip plug I was using and that didn't seem to make a difference whatsoever. I Then tried playing Fable II, which froze about 2 minutes into the game meaning this has to be a Hardware failure. About 15 minutes later though I got Fable II to load up and played fine for about an hour which surprised me. I then passed out since it was almost 4am with the xbox still not having frozen. This morning I put in Halo Reach to check the challenges like I do every morning, and I actually was able to play 2 games of Fire Fight without a problem. Seems like the problem just comes and goes without any pattern or logic, and the best part is that today is now the 32nd day I've had the system. Hope Gamestop doesn't hold me to that 30day guarantee...
