Just checking in to see if anyone has a solution yet..

Currently it looks like the options are:

1. Send the disc back for a replacement, no Reach for ~2 weeks*
2. Send the 360 back for a replacement, no gaming for ~3 weeks*
3. Spend 5 to 10 minutes ejecting the disc to start up every time

*either of these options may not solve anything

These options all stink. Where is the solution that makes the customer happy? I spent $150 on the legendary edition for this nonsense.

Just FYI... I, too, had the DREadded Disc Read Error problem with my Halo: Reach that I purchased on launch day.

I exchanged the disk to no avail... After seeing this forum, I called into the XBOX Tech Support team. After about an hour and half of time I'll never get back, they set me up for a free warranty repair for my out of warranty launch XBOX 360 Pro/Premium (one that I also personally fixed the RROD...).

Once I shipped it off, the tracking info was sparse. In fact, I had to call into XBOX Support again to find out more info, which is when I learned that the Mesquite, TX facility had received my box, but it was just sitting on their dock. (Awesome, huh?) A day or two later, a replacement unit was shipped to me via UPS Ground.

The replacement unit is working fine, and they included a month's pass for XBL. I was secretly hoping they would include an HDMI port, too, but oh well... at least I can now play a game I bought on launch day, a month after I bought it.

LOL. I can't believe you bought the Legendary edition and that happened. That sucks man. I'd just keep doing option 3 until we get word from bungie as to what we should do... but hey, a long wait will make you enjoy reach more... i hope ;)

I am victim to this error as well (pro launch console, serviced twice until 2009), and will call up support for getting a replacement game (and maybe a console repair) immediately.

I figured it'd have something to do with backwards compatibility (or lack thereof), especially since looking forward to the firmware/dashboard/Kinect update coming to us.

This may be irrelevant to the problem, but that and the new header on the game covers are what hinted me in getting this problem. :D

Same thing happened to me. Unreal. If you call them for a replacement game do you have to send the defective one back? I like the black case that it came in and don't want one of those green ones.

Yeah, lucky me.

Between Halo: CE, both xbox and PC, H2 also both versions, Halo 3, ODST and now Reach Legendary (I actually bought two legendary editions and gave one to a friend) I think I've earned the right to EXPECT THE DISC TO READ more often than not.

hey this happened to me, but i had it was installed on my hard drive. i had to uninstall my game and it worked. if i were u i would get ur disk reader checked up.

dont you people get it? Bungie is too busy tweaking the playlists to worry about any of its fans suffering from eratic discs...looks like reach was the one that just got away..

Ok, you guys need to stop calling Customer Service and file a BBB complaint.

First 2 weeks - I called Customer Support get told out of warrenty, send money , tried all the tricks....no Halo.
End of week 2 - Buddy lets me borrow his Xbox, my disc works fine, beat game
Week 3 - Call CS again, ask to escalate, all they do is send me replacement xbox disc, offer to have me send it in for 190 bucks again.
Week 3 - File BBB complaint same day, MS rep calls 2 days later, tells me they will send me a replacement xbox in 3-4 days, that she is real sorry, and thanks me for being an xbox customer.

tl;dr - File a BBB complaint, get a new xbox in 4 days.

Had to go through BBB to get Microsoft to do anything about the problem.

Luckily my friend has two 360s so I can use his extra until the situation gets sorted out...

wait a minute why did a bungie employee respond to that simple issue but not to the problem everyone else is having, yea this is becoming bogus.

Im even cool with getting an answer that bungie/MS is aware that many people are having a problem and they are working to resolve it!! Am i the only one that feels like this?

Because Johnny is a beast. Plus its not really their area to fix your games. Xbox support handles hardware issue, bungie just developed the game.

FYI LOADOUTS ARE BAD!!!! REACH WILL LOSE A LOT OF PLAYERS FAST!!!

reach multiplayer will lose a lot of players fast if they don't put in a lot of game types with no loadouts (besides swat). A lot of my friends have already quit playing the game including myself as every match is people running away everytime,armor lock, camo,or hiding... pretty sad. plus black ops is coming out soon

My disc reads most of the times but when it doesnt it says its a DVD which is weird?

mine wont read either so i take out the game close the tray open it then put the disk back in it usely works the 6th time i do it takes a bit but its worth it.

I'm having a sort of similar problem but not exactly. My disk will read every time and play fine, but when I try to install it to my hard drive it'll get to maybe 40-60% then say "Can't read disk." I'd love to find a solution to this considering Reach has been optimized for being played off the hard drive. I hope I get an answer to this.

EDIT: I tried again and it gets to 49%, then right when it should be going to 50 is when the message pops up. I know my disc isn't scratched because I've been playing on it for 3 weeks and I can play every map and every campaign mission.

anyone want to tell me what a BBB complaint is? I've been dealing with M$ for the last week and a half, not working out that great. I have to send my brand new Reach 360S in because it is faulty (go figure) but it's looking like a 3 week thing. Think the BBB will be faster? And if so, how the hell do I do it?

I had the issue. I solved it by moving my electricity distribution... thing, away from the xbox because induction affected it. I can agree on xbox having poor quality
