Well, I've made it clear to my online friends that I'm not going near the thing until they figure it out, and you can bet your tail-feathers that I'm not sending my X-Box in just because Bungie royally goofed it!
I think it's obvious that's not going to happen. Get your console repaired or don't play the game. Your choice. If I had the option, I would have sent mine in the first day the game was released.

Happened to me. Easy fix
Just gotta clear DNS cache (I dunno how, but you gotta go somewhere in settings, maybe memory, and just press Y to clear it)

Worked for me, dunno bout you.

Changing your gamertag will not affect bungie.net's records of you playing the Beta or Halo 2. (If you create a whole new account, that's a different story)

its no magic, just change the disk to something else like dvd, and then change it back. usually works with me. or just leave the box alone for 20min. usually works after that 2

ATTENTION BUNGIE

After several phone calls, going through all the troubleshooting of installing on HDD, clearing cache, trying evry game mode, removing HDD, playing offline, online, trying it on another 360 and finally swapping discs. After these hoops have been jumped through(maybe i'll get an achievement & skull like in Halo3!) this is what resolution is given by Xbox Support.
...So fair enough there is a problem and you are working on it. But do i WANT to play anyother game? NO. I want to play Reach. I paid £100 for a game that gives me DRE EVERY single time i play and loses my campaign data. The fun is being sucked out of playing the game and to be honest Bungie I AM tempted to play another game. For now it'll be to get my last few G's in ODST & Halo Wars but once that's done if Reach isn't fixed by then i'm giving up on the franchise. I think i speak for everyone by saying that we are frustrated and dissapointed by this. Bungie don't let this be a messy break up, i'm willing to work hard at this relationship if we can fix our problems, hey i won't scam credit (I havent for the record, go on check!) only if you work on DRE and we can enjoy a happy healthy long term relationship. Love you x

I've been testing playing Halo Reach without a hard drive in for a few weeks. There is no problems, it doesn't freeze or pop-up with the unreadable disc error. So if your suffering from the error give this method a try. The only downside is that you can't view fileshares or save recent films
