What happened to quality controll? Is micro$oft simply tryig to save cash by not testing it on a launch model? Or is its hardware (gpu) literaly not able to handle it?

While it may seem really irresponsible for Microsoft to do this... they might have just figured that all of the Launch consoles have either been upgraded through repairs, red ringed, or just replaced by now.

My hopes is that I can play. I will be getting mine sometime next week, ([sarcasm]Yay snail mail...[/sarcasm]) so I hope that the issue will be resolved by then, because I'm honestly not sure if mine is, or isn't, as I bought it refurbished.

I picked up reach this morning, and my disc had some sort of "crud" on it right out of the case. I wiped it off, put the disc in my 360 and got a dirty disc error. So I cleaned the disc and restarted the console and it worked fine. BUT it wouldn't load the campaign! I could play everything else, but the campaign wouldn't load. Inspected the disc and noticed that it had these large blotches, looked like air bubbles under a sticker. Exchanged said copy for a new one, and so far everything is working perfectly.

No idea what those blotches are, my new disc has one much smaller one. Anyone else encounter something like this?

well this could prove that halo reach is on a dual layered disc. usually dual layered discs have those. my ps3 dual layerd games- ff13, god of war 3, and MGS4 have those air bubble things you are talking about

the thing thats pissing me off here is you pay $400 plus tax (when xbox originally came out) and $60 plus tax for a game. thats about $500 out of the wallet. When you spend $500 on something you expect it to work. It's not like the new 360 is an upgrade. Big deal its black, shiny, and smaller. Oh yeah it's "kinect ready." Shoot, I can't play with my Kinectimals. But it shouldn't matter if you bought your Xbox on the first day it launched or yesterday, EVERY GAME YOU PURCHASE SHOULD WORK FOR IT!

ok so if it was printed on a dual layer disc why wasn't it just put over 2 disc's so that this could have been avoided.... that is if it is that causing this to happen. but those bubbles don't sound too fun

  • 09.14.2010 7:12 PM PDT

Ima get a new copy tommorrow

  • 09.14.2010 7:13 PM PDT

May have been posted before, but is actually your 360.
Even though all other games are fine.
It's your 360.

Sometimes one of my games will have the same problem and then it'll fix itself. (another game will work fine).

Your 360 just isn't fixing itself.

well i guess Microsoft and bungie thought that if they put the game on 2 discs it wouldn't have been streamlined. but anyways those bubbles are common on dual layered discs. if this is indeed a problem i dont know how Microsoft can patch this with an update. To people who have installed this- how big was the game again?

OK so I registered here just to post how I fxed my disc. YMMV!

My (original, old, no HDMI) XBOX would not read it; it would just go hang on the XBOX screen.

I boiled the disc. For about a minute it was floating in boiling hot water, shiny side down. All fixed! Well, perhaps I will find it will hang somewhere still but - it sure loads and I can start playing now.

YMMV!!

okay if it is under 6.9 gigs then then my dual layered theory is wrong because a standard xbox 360 disc can hold 6.9 gigs max.

I'm guessing I should throw my Xbox out the window too or hang myself from one of the cords

I'll think about that in about 15 minutes when I fire it up!

I tried to boil a blank DVD first to make sure the DVD will not warp. When I saw it does not - I brought water to boil again and dipped the Reach DVD in there. I figured disc is likely shot anyway and I'll exchange it tomorrow. But now it works. (shrug!)

I am having the same problem. Game starts up. I try to start the campaign, get past the intro movie where you're taking off in the falcon, and I consistently get the disk read error. I bought my xbox arcade off amazon on Nov 09. Its one of the newish arcades with the HDMI port. I have a 120 Gb drive on it now. Tried installing the game onto the HDD and got the green screen every time it tries to start up. Tried everything before finally just pulling the HDD and use the arcade's flash memory. Works fine now. Hopefully bungie or MS might be able to fix this with a patch.

I got nothing to gain by posting this. It worked for me. I used a plastic spatula to take the DVD out.
