Mine is the same. I exchanged my original disc for another at the store I bought it from, it worked for a bit and now it won't work again!!! This is -blam!-!!!

It would be nice if either company, Bungie or Microsoft, could simply tell us what the issue is so we could get it resolved.

Call the #, they'll exchange your non-Reach compatible xbox 360 for a refurbished one. I hope to find out this week if the refurbished model is any better at reading the Reach disc.

Days without an xbox 360 = 15 and counting.

I agree, I had this same problem during the beta and no one seemed to acknowledge me what so ever. The moment the beta for Reach came out, both my Halo 3 disc and Halo 3: ODST disc were giving the same error.

When I got the retail version of Reach, yet again did I have to deal with this same error. So I said F-it. I bought a BRAND NEW xbox 360 slim.

After 2 months things were great, until last week I started to get the SAME ERROR!!!

Whats the deal Bungie/Microsoft, this seems to be too coincidental. Is it my account thats messed UP? HELP, someone...anyone...?

If anyone is interested in finding out how long your xbox will be missing, I found this handy map of UPS ground times to/from the microsoft "repair" facility:

i sent a bunch of emails to m$ support and they said theirs a disk replacement program for a small fee, they want me to pay to fix a game that they broke? this is bullBLAM, and on top of that when i click the link in the email that leads to the disk replacement page its a broken link, i tried searching the site for disk replacement and theirs no such thing.

  • 11.29.2010 12:45 PM PDT

Well I just went back to the store I bought it from and they just gave me a brand new copy. Let's face it Halo Reach isn't that old so the store should provide you with some guarantee.

My first one was a Legendary Edition, my second they actually opened a Legendary Edition to give me just the disc from it, this one - my third was just an off the shelf regular copy.

Is there any connection to what Edition the game is or is it just completely random....? I'll post back if this one fails me.

im gonna try to take it back to walmart tommorow, do you think they'll switch my disk out no problem? will i have to come up with an excuse, or do they know about this problem?

and yes i still got the receipt, i bought it on thanksgiving

The store I took mine to didn't know about the problem but I just directed them to this 126 page thread about it. I told the truth that it just stopped working and I got mine swapped - after a slightly confused look from the assistant.

I bought my copy during black friday at Amazon. I received it today and it says its reading but then either says open tray or play DVD. All other games work fine. I have an Arcade system with 250MB of internal memory and a 120GB HD. I called XB support and the gal said I was basically out of luck. So I guess I have a wonderful new drink coaster unless someone here can suggest something.

this is bullcrap and theirs got to be something we can do about it, were getting shafted out of our hard earned money and its not right, yet the people in charge(m$ and bungie) are turning a complete blind eye to it or asking us for more money. its messed up and i dont want anything to do with it anymore.

All right guys im joining the club. Im only having trouble with the pilliar of fall (lol) level. It loads to 10% stops jumps tp 44% then starts over. After 5 times of it reloading it will say player failed to load content. Sorry if this is old news but there was no way I was going through 126 threads.

Save some time reading through 126 pages:

Bungie has no answer but to say call Microsoft. They'll replace your Xbox 360 with a refurbished model *if* it is still under warranty.

Merry xmas!

yeah i have a slim and i only get the message right after certain games but theres no exception i have alot of games and they all work fine but reach will give me some problems..i think theres some kind of issue with these discs..ive heard ppl taking back their copies, sending away their xbox's, and yet they still wont work..bungie really needs to address this like common man why are they hiding?

Guys every other game works fine in our consoles so why would you want to send to ms a perfectly working console? Halo reach is only a few months old so return your disc to the store you bought it from as its defective. You have consumer rights. I've returned 2 copies so far - no problem. If we return our discs then suppliers are gonna start beating up ms and bungie and they have much more clout than us mere mortals. RETURN YOUR GAME

  • 11.30.2010 12:52 AM PDT

Do as Bungie says. Why would they mislead us? They love us.

  • 11.30.2010 3:41 AM PDT

LOL Don't do as Bungie sais. The developers love us, but Bungie is a business. They want money, your money, my money to keep...forever.

Remember the fallen.

why are you guys defending bungie on this? are they doing anything to remedy the situation? no, and people are acting like its alright to return their system and pay more money to have it fixed, no thats not right, this is not right at all.

Jwm

I have four consoles in the house, one 360 Slim 250gb, one Elite, one Arcade, and one 360 Slim 4gb. I have two copies of Halo Reach, one has never stopped working and works fine on all consoles.

The other I opened yesterday NIB only to discover that it would not work on any console, so I returned it to the store today, got a new one with the same results. Again the old copy works fine, but the copy I picked up today will not work.

I have to think the disc was stamped wrong, otherwise I would think at least one console would read it. The consoles range in age from new to launch units. Additionally, no other game disc in my collection is having a read error on any console.

Edit: I should add that I have tried pulling the HDD's, swapping in new ones, etc.

i dont get why it still gives a DRE after installing it to the HDD makes me think theirs foul play involved

@KinglyComa99 I can install with a known good copy and get the DRE with the bad copy. Uninstall, and never get the bad copy to do anything other than not read. I think it has to be down to a manufacturing process more than a problem from Bungie or MS. Regardless, MS needs to come clean as the publisher and recall the bad batch of disks and get the plant to eat the costs.

This is why I've suggested Bungie/Microsoft can make this right by allowing us to trade in our unreadable discs for a token to let us play without the disc-in-drive.

I heard from the local store today that they are seeing issues with discs originating from Puerto Rico, which is where the two bad copies that I had came from. The one I have from Mexico works fine, and today I was able to return the bad copy for a used copy from Mexico as well, so now I have two working copies.

Just something to check, look on the back of the game case under the ratings.

  • 12.01.2010 9:40 AM PDT

My first copy from Amazon came from Puerto Rico. I have a replacement copy coming today so we shall see. Maybe MS needs to shutdown that plant until they figure what the heck is going on.

EDIT: Received replacement disc also produced in Puerto Rico and this one works. Installed to HD just to make sure it doesn't have to read the disc much.
