i sent a bunch of emails to microsoft support and they want me to pay for it to get it fixed, so i sent them a hatemail and got my msn blocked.

I got my replacement xbox 360 back from Microsoft. So far it is reading my Reach disc perfectly - four times in a row! It is still a launch model, no hdmi but it seems to work OK.

Good luck everyone. Luckily it only cost me 15 days of waiting and the PITA of re-downloading 100+ pieces of DLC over the next few days to acquire licenses, but the problem is apparently behind me now.

I heard that the xbox slim has a couple of problems with the Halo Reach copies.

Boom Shaka-laka!

-blam!- THAT! THAT'S PURE BULL-blam!-!!

I have the same problem with my xbox. it says play dvd when im tryin 2 play reach then if i click play dvd it will say "to play this disk put in a xbox 360 consol." wtf man! Its the worst case of identity issues i have ever seen. Talk about Epic fail. however if i open then close, open then close the tray enough times it will eventually work. so if u want to play untill u can affored a new xbox try this out (sometimes it can take up to 15 minutes though).

why is everybody acting like its not a big deal, this is pure crap, they sell us defective merch. then in order to use the defective merch. we have to pay them more money? no wonder m$ is the richest company in the world their scamming people left and right and you people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to play a frickin video game that should only cost you 60 bucks.

Fear not the darkness, instead embrace its welcome.

What about if the disc completely screws up your profile data temporarily?
Hm?
It did that to me and I thought I lost my 2-and-a-half years of gamerscore.

Here is my experience:

I got the DRE during the first level of reach. The way I got around it:

Connected 8GB thumb drive to Xbox
Formatted thumb drive using xbox
Moved save game to thumb drive.
Turned off console.
Removed HDD.
Turned on Console.
Downloaded update.
Installed Reach to thumbdrive.

Played fine.

After initially getting this issue, I checked the forums then promptly filed a complaint with the BBB. After a week I got in contact with some guy from MS saying he was from xbox support and was getting a hold of me because of my complaint with the BBB. This is what I was told:

After their extensive testing of the consoles sent in by customers regarding this issue they found that the consoles were close to hardware failure which was manifesting itself as the DRE on Halo Reach and he says that because of that it is not their fault and are not providing courtesy repairs and there was nothing else he could do, would be giving his response to the BBB and if I wanted to use his contact info for future xbox problems not regarding Halo reach... then that would be fine.

*sigh*

Mine is doing this now, not a scratch on the disc. Did they ever come out with a fix? Looks like I have to buy a new 360 for one game.

  • 12.03.2010 2:16 PM PDT

No fix, except to send in your console for repairs at 100+$ a pop.

Even some new ones are exhibiting the issues... so I don't know how this is a manifestation of hardware failure.

It happened to me a few days after Reach released. All I did was unplug my cables and HDD a few times, plug them back in, and it's been working ever since.

If anyone has this kind of problem have you ever considered waiting until its downloadable on the marketplace to replace it, it takes a long time but its a good idea

Thanks man. Mine come from Puerto Rico also might be the problem. I also got it from Amazon. By any chance did you get it during BFriday?Microsoft are sending me a replacement hopefully it'll work.

my screen turned green only after installing to the HDD, and the problem with your game is that you havent payed for a new xbox yet, duh,

yea i hate having payed 60 bucks for a game i can't even play anymore the only reason i have an xbox is because of halo or else i would just play a playstation lets face it Microsoft you suck at making games and i don't see Sony pulling this kinda crap on people that's why they're so damn succesful they got tv's,radios, computers, video games and all sorts of other electronics. what the hell do you have just a -blam!- xbox that i would much rather trade in for a playstation 3 right now with all the same damn games that i'm playing except for halo reach which i can't even use

  • 12.04.2010 4:18 PM PDT

we'd like to thank you for your concern about our products and we will continue to provide the games you love to play, in order to help resolve the issue we would like to repair your xbox for a nominal fee-xbox support

flippin hackjobs, god i hate m$ and now im left with an unplayable bran new game, because i refuse to give them anymore money.

While I do agree that having to pay to get your Xbox "fixed" for one game, Microsoft is not the only company to do this. In fact, somewhere in this thread (around page 50 or so I think), someone stated that they had almost the EXACT same response from Sony when God of War 3 didn't read on his PS3. This is just a standard response from companies when they do not know the exact cause of the issue.

your saying a companies standard response is to charge people more money? actually that does sound abit right.
