ok because non of u want to go to my forum ill put my forum here here just do what it says 1st off the game is in but its not recognizing the game for example it says (press a to play dvd or press a to open tray but the game is in) if this is your problem then your going to be fine.
1st of all your going to want install halo reach to your hard drive. this can be done by going to my xbox then from my xbox go to game library then it should show up with a whole bunch of games that youve played click on halo reach it will say install unless youve already installed it.

2nd you wanna clear your cache on your hard drive. this is done by going to my xbox then to system settings all the way to the right then go to memory highlight the hard drive and press y it should say rename format clear system cache and transfer content press clear cache.

3rd remove any external storage devices like memory cards or usb sticks.

4th now your ready to play the game.
- go to my xbox
- now go to game library and press a
- then sroll up or down until you find halo reach press a on it
- then press a on play game the screen will turn black for a few seconds then it should show the halo reach loading thing.

5th have fun this should work if it does not try cleaning the disk with a damp warm cloth.
also u may wanna try altering your xboxs position for example if your xbox is upright then try putting it on its side and vice versa.
if it still doesnt work try taking out the hard drive and cleaning out the dust because it may not be loading right.

if none of this works for you leave a comment and i will get back to you within the next day with more solutions. peace out hope this helps

so your suggesting we jump through hoops because Bungie is a bunch of money hungry -blam!- tards

  • 12.31.2010 3:27 PM PDT

also wtf r u talking about jumnping through hoops if u wanna fix it just try what i posted it worked for a whole bunch of other people so just try it and tell me if it works

Microsoft will replace your Xbox 360 with a refurbished one at no cost, not even shipping.. so I doubt they think it is a disc problem.

  • 01.01.2011 7:28 AM PDT

I only have the 4gb xbox 360 - will I have room to install halo reach to the hard drive? Also - why should I get a refurbished one sent to me when this is a brand spanking new console we just bought at christmas?

Wouldn;t surprise me if microsoft rigged all originals to get RRoD just after the warranty so that people had to get a new one. That's probably why they didn't bother testing it on the original consoles... none are supposed to be working any more. I've had 2 originals and both got RRoD I bought the high gig elite and had no problems yet. Kind of funky that an item has a malfunction and doesn't have to recall and refund/replace it just because its out of warranty. Shops are always recalling iffy stock that are out of the 30 day money back guarantee. If only a rich kid would challenge them in court. Could you imagine... a world where malfunctioning xbox's caused by a design flaw being none existent any more and people not left out of pocket.

I just got my Reach Edition XBOX back for the 3rd time and I still get the DRE. I called XBOX support and the tech suggested that it was probably the hard drive since the console had been fixed (3 times). I removed the hard drive and the game plays fine. I have to send my hard drive in and they will swap it out with a working one. For the time being I'm using a 4G thumb drive as a storage device so I can still play on line. I'm curious if this works for anyone else.

jumping through hoops, i dont want to try this and that and this and that in hopes that it works, i want to go to the store, buy a game, and bring it home and play it, regardless of what model of xbox i got. and no i cant try it as i sold my copy of the game.

  • 01.02.2011 4:38 PM PDT

Tenacious Like BuLL!!!!!!!!!

This sounds like the same issue I have. Depends on the game type I try to play, Arena for example, but when the countdown timer reaches zero, I'll get a "Load Failure" message. After getting 3 of these in a row, I get booted back to the multiplayer menu. For some reason, Bungie thinks that I'm quitting games, and after I dont know how many "Load Failures", I'll get banned from mulitplayer for quitting to many games. Most times the disc won't load campaign missions either. And it appears "unreadable" when trying to install to HDD. FYI Bungie, the disc has a crack in it, most likely from overheating and putting it back in the jewel case...Overheating..hmm...I use the Interact 2 fan on my console, plus a floor fan blowing on it to keep it as cold as possible. A co-worker that also works at Gamestop told me it happened to one of his game discs also. Hmmm...so it seems I know of 2 cases where this has occurred. Anyone else know of this? Or maybe the discs are defective now, poor manufacturing?? Seems the money went into new packaging and logos on microsofts side, to go along with the Kinnect packaging?? Matter of fact, my disc came from my co-workers Halo system that he got. I bought it off him, since he had pre-ordered the uber ultra legendary copy of the game for 180 or whatever, before hearing about the system with the game. I'll upload a picture of it if it pleases the powers that be, or tell me where to send it for replacement!!! Not my fault, non of my other game discs do this, plz stop banning me!! I'm not paying for another game disc. Period. I'd like a free replacement copy from Bungie with autographs from the Devs and an apology letter for getting banned unjustly, multiple times. Oh, and a code for a flaming helmet might help me forgeddaboutit. If and when they would rewiew the games, they would see that most times, after the game "STARTS", I'll be staring at a black screen, before winding up back on the multiplayer menu screen...then I get banned for quitting. Good times, NOT!! Playing on Noble Map Pack doesn't seem to be affected by this. Oh and my consloe is not a launch console..got the current one when the Arcades when on sale for 199. The first system died many moons ago, when the video card went out on it..micorsoft said that the video card dying was one of the more rare conditions they heard of....yellow fog on screen, then after power cycling the console, no image or sound, just the blue screen from my AV channel (back before my HD). Tech support kept trying to push RRoD for repair purposes, but that wasnt the case. Warranty was expired, and wanst paying 100 for them to fix it...traded the old system in on referb credit and bought the arcade for under 100...slapped the HDD on and have no other issues.

Update. Got my replacement xbox back on the 29th of Dec. No more red ring, however I still get the DRE with the HD installed.

Been talking to MS about it, waiting to hear back today about my latest bout of testing for the support guy.

Have a feeling MS is going to tell me I need to buy a new HD or play without my HD installed.

Update

Got word back from the MS guy. He says that he is concerned about my xboxs performance, and is going to initiate another repair on it and if that does not help will exchange the hard drive on it. I am really glad they are trying to work with me on this, to get me back up to speed on my xbox gaming. Kudos to this support guy for being so helpful.

I've got about 7 differant halo reachs and only 1 works.

  • 01.05.2011 2:30 PM PDT

Ok everyone, I was on the phone with Xbox Support..or Microsoft Support...w/e they are and here is how it ended regarding those who are having discs not reading resulting in an open tray or play dvd. I have the same situation but with an xbox 250gb slim

-Overview on me. I JUST bought the xbox 250 gb slim from wal-mart in eastern Tennessee with a brand new Halo Reach disc...both purchased on same day. Went home, set it up on my ballin plasma tv and get the open tray/play dvd issue

-I went to wal-mart again and exchanged disc for another new disc because there policy is I can exchange disc for another SAME DISC but cannot get money refunded because game case is opened. So I go home with new replaced disc... Result was same problem.

-Went back again and exchanged the console for another new/fresh console as well as a new copy of halo Reach. Result same issue. I tried one more time with a new disc and it still -blam!- me over. I replaced the disc 3 times in the same night with a 2nd console replacement.

-I gave up and went back and bought a different game (Black Ops) which works fine btw, but I also exchanged disc again for a 3rd time just to see. result was the same issue with halo Reach, BUT NOT Call of Duty Black ops. ALL other games work GREAT, but Halo Reach simply will not play on my 250 gb slim which I bought maybe 3-4weeks ago in early December of 2010.
I still have the game and I have brought to everyone I know with any console version of the 360 and it will not play. I've tried it on a console with a white body as well as another xbox 360 slim and a couple other xboxs of w/e -blam!- models they come in.

-I CALLED MS/Xbox support and they connected me to another guy right away with small hold time. I was on the phone with him for almost 40 minutes, as he was attempting to help. He sent a message to bungie regarding my situation and his supervisors. They offered to send me a brand new disc without sending the old one back to them 1st, but then he told me it would cost $20.00. I send hell no. It is interesting tho how they offer to send me a copy of Halo Reach that should work for 20 dollars when they think I have a copy of halo Reach that doesn't work simply by word of mouth. No concrete proof. I could have gotten Halo Reach for 20 bucks simply calling them an telling them whatsup with my -blam!-. I don't know what the solution is besides possibly paying more money for something to be fixed possibly...but to me...it seems as if there is something going on here with intent for financial gain....it is difficult for me to see a company with such a legit reputation mess up so bad. I hope they realize they do not need to be greedy b/c we as gamers will always support xbox and halo because they are cult classics and I love playin the -blam!- out of em....

  • 01.05.2011 4:36 PM PDT

yes this really does need to get resolved. i myself have kind of solved the problem in my case. i have a 250 gb slim and i purchased reach at launch and it worked perfectly for the first month or so but lately ive been gettin the same unable to read message over and over again so ive been reading this thread for the past 3-4 weeks or so and ive came to the conclusion that it was my HDD for the most part. i went out to gamestop and bought a little 8 gb usb drive and been using that for reach and its def. been working way better.

...oh what a little research could do, trust me, 5 minutes of it and you wont make such an ass of yourself... Microsoft didnt "rig" the xboxes, it just happened because they didnt test them for 3 damn years before shipping, and they set aside over a million dollars and extended warranties 3 extra years because of the design flaw, if you got the RRoD, its your own fault for not getting it replaced when you had the chance... oh what a little research can do...

  • 01.06.2011 12:04 AM PDT

anybody notice that this problem has been going on since sept. and Bungie/m$ has made no official statement? we whine and complain that our -blam!- isnt working and the best they can do is advertise their maps or talk about stosh and the pentatholon, who give s -blam!- about that -blam!-, if im paying you mother-blam!-s money i expect a working game, not some -blam!- stupid bull-blam!- about buying your new -blam!- maps, -blam!- you bungie you -blam!- -blam!-s.

i'm have the same exact problem. i 1st bought a used copy at gamestop. nothing wrong with the disc. put in my system, it started to read but it would either freeze my system up or this would pop up,"disc is unreadable." so I brought it back and bought a brand new 1. same problems. brought that 1 back 2, they gave another brand new 1. same problems. i'm so fed up i'm ready 2 trash bungie. what were they thinking?!

bass

i finally called 1800 for my xbox and after 4 transfers they told me that my xbox needs to be repaired if i want to play halo reach. $119.00 so they can fix the issue, apparently my xbox has trouble talking to the hard drive and thats why i cant even play campaign. i already bought a new hard drive (that i didnt really need)just so i could play. seeing as this is my second xbox, i just cant see buying another one for one game. all of my other games work fine, so i guess its something to do with the way halo loads. :( im very sad about this and i had a great time playing reach

i started a topic on this and got warned lol. i thought i was alone in this crazy predicament, guess not. i cant believe that a flagship title like this could have this sort of problem. i really doubt ill ever buy another m$ console after all the problems ive had, and im a bit more wary of bungie now too.

I have a feeling I know what issue is... at least for some issues.

Halo Reach does level loading on the fly, in order for them to avoid the long load times of Halo 3. The problem however is that they assumed a certain amount of bandwidth between cache and process, instead of giving it a dynamic range depending on current performance.

So what happens is, on the older consoles or older HDs the bandwidth falls below their assumed acceptable bandwidth and poof the error is born.

Unfortunately what this means is they may not be able to release a reasonable patch for the game. They may not be able to add in exceptions for poor HD/console performance into that specific area without completely rewriting the file i/o code... and portions of the game to handle longer load times.

Which means they will just ignore the problem console or charge a certain amount of money to replace whatever is broken, or firmware update a component to improve performance for a specific function or whatever... because otherwise its millions in bringing a full team in (which they hadn't planned on) to find the problem, test the fix on broken consoles, pay to have the new version of the game re-certified and then pay to release it.

Unfortunately their support and repair service is setup for full on busted consoles and not firmware updating hardware, which means over priced repair costs for our issues.

This is all opinion on my part I could be way off base.
