Same. white xbox, grey tray w\chrome door. Green screen, disk unreadable, hd/no hd, clear cache, etc etc etc.

I have a Legendary Edition, and I was up until 2 AM last night after waiting for it's midnight release trying to beat Level 1. Randomly, after dying, I wouldn't revert back to a checkpoint, but restart the level. Finally made it through Lv. 1 only to have an "Unreadable Disk" Error kill all my progress. Today, I tried installing the game on my HDD and it worked for a while. Now, I get a green screen when I try to load the game. I bought a launch version, but have dealt with the RROD twice already, so I'm not sure if it's replaced or repaired.

Microsoft & Bungie: It's ludicrous for a loyal customer to shell out $150 for a game that doesn't work. It's ludicrous we haven't even gotten so much as a "Hey guys, we aknowledge your existence," from the mods yet. I'm calling Microsoft Support after this, and if they tell me I have to shell out more money to play this game, Sony just got themselves a new customer.

-Blam- this situation. -Blam- it right up the nostril.

This is ridiculous. How can you launch a game that does not play on the console. I have a white xbox 360 with gray tray, but it is one that was sent to me when I sent in my original xbox 360 to be repaired. They sent me a new white one with a gray tray. All other games work. BUNGIE - you guys are idiots. Microsoft - worthless. I'm buying a PS3. No more halos after this anyway.

i agree with most of what you said. this shouldn't have been a problem. i guess microsoft forgot about their early buyers who bought an xbox 360 for $400. Im pretty sure though that this is just a business trick to force people to buy new xbox 360 slims.

ima go to bed. if i dont see something about a fix for this tommorow, i think ill just go get a full refund. id hate to say it, but this just isnt worth my time. i got all hyped up about it and now im just sitting here thinking about how everyone else gets to play it, but we have to sit here waiting...

I have a refurbed non-HDMI Xenon 360 that was sent back to me in Feb of last year (gee thanks MS). When I first put Reach into my 360, I installed it to my 120Gb HDD. As soon as the first cutscene was over and screen goes black... I got a "this disc is unreadable" error.

So I then deleted the game from my HDD and tried just playing it off the disc... I still got the same error at the exact same place.

My 360 has been out of warranty for awhile now, so I guess i'm pretty much screwed if the problem is exclusive to the older models.

So if I pick up an Arcade for 150 bucks or whatever and pop in my HD, would this situation be fixed?

So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

It's probably your Xbox. My copy works fine and I was even able to install it. OP What year is your Xbox?
Got it back from Microsoft last year. Mine has an HDMI port by the way.
Hmm... Interesting. There must have been another mistake during mass production and I think some copies are defected. ODST also had this problem, I'm surprised that this happened to Reach as well. Anyway keep testing your console with the other games you have, it could be the disc drive.

Edit: Also by what year, I meant what year model? If it's a 2007 it will most likely have trouble reading new games because the disc drive can't read it well.

How can this problem happen with such a huge game amazes me. You guys can imagine how excited i was coming home from taking 4 exams, having the legendary edition waiting for me and then suddenly my day gets ruined with this problem.

this is going to sound really bad and i'll probably get some backlash about it but i reckon maybe there should be something in it for us for the inconvenience don't ya think... a bit of compensation, cause this is just bullcrap

< Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The internet is a privilege not a right >

UPDATE: It appears to be working *for now*... I've made it to the first save point, but the frame rate keeps dropping. Perhaps too much going on for the poor Xbox to handle? Still not happy that it happened in the first place. I don't get many nights off, and the few nights I do get off from work I like to not have to deal with this crap.

i agree $100%. Because of this problem which shouldn't have even been a problem, we halo fans are missing out. And people are getting ahead in mulitplayer and are already beating the campaign. Plus it is such a terrible feeling when you have the game in your hand knowing you can't play it.

  • 09.14.2010 8:12 PM PDT

if it doesnt work for me imma be pissed i have waited a year for this game fing bull-blam!-. I dont have it yet but i will soon.

  • 09.14.2010 8:12 PM PDT

Hmmmmmm this sounds like a big problem. I had a similar problem with my Gear of War 2 game. Just take it back to where you got it and they will give you a new copy.

The way I see it, there's nothing to be done.

If Bungie doesn't make a statement, then there is nothing we can do about it. If I can't get a fix for this 360 then perhaps I'll rent a 360 from Blockbuster or something to see if it's a console issue, but at the moment there isn't anything to be done.

Supposedly the Halo: Reach disks were not tested by microsoft and were pumped out quickly so that they could ship to retailers.
So supposedly a lot of disks are faulty.

  • 09.14.2010 8:18 PM PDT

couldnt they make new disk or something?

  • 09.14.2010 8:19 PM PDT

SpartenOmega117

either way i will be very pissed., My friends and i had a lot of plans this weekend. and since i ordered from amazon i have to ship it back which will take extra time. I really hope this issue can be solved with a simple update

  • 09.14.2010 8:21 PM PDT

Holy -blam!- Im gettin Reach really soon and i fit doesn't work Im gonna be mad pissed.

  • 09.14.2010 8:21 PM PDT

i'm an aussie and i've been looking at the ACCC website, it's a consumers website and there's some interesting things here...

Statutory conditions (goods)

The Trade Practices Act implies the following statutory conditions into consumer contracts:

* The goods must be of merchantable quality. That is, they must meet a basic level of quality and performance, taking into account their price and description. They also should be free from defects that were not obvious to you at the time of purchase.
* The goods must be fit for their purpose. That is, they should do what they are supposed to do and be suitable for any purpose that you might have made known to the supplier.

sorry there is a bit of reading but fascinating nonetheless... i feel it applies here
