@pulverizer332

It's not the disc, after my first disc didn't work i went back to the shop and got another with same problem. So i tried it on my friend's elite and it worked so he swapped discs with me (the one he gave me he had already been playing on his elite with no problems) and wehn i tried it on my xbox i got the unreadable disc error again

That still does NOT prove it is not the disc. It could be a batch of discs, combined with specific DVD drives that some of our XBOXen have. All I know is that I had the same error, did what I did and am now playing. Using the same disc.

The disc is perfect just out the shop and works on other xbox, if that isn't proof that it's the xbox having problems processing/loading the software then i don't know what is

Live in the Tampa Fl area. Getting the random disc read errors as well. I've gotten as far as about to get into the saber. And thats as far as it will let me go. Before that it crashes on the Rocket warthog part. And crashed another time on the 1st level. Was able to by pass some of those crashes by skipping ahead in friends co op games. But the saber part seems to be its limit on solo campaign. Gte random crashes on loading screens in multiplayer as well.

Usually after a match before my exp and credits add up causing me to loose them pisses me off to high hell. I have a pro xbox model that I bought back in 2006 with the 60 gig harddrive. Had one RROD sent it in got it back. Only seems to have this problem with Halo games. It did this alot particularly with Halo 3 not to long before I got the RROD. Couldn't play certain maps especially DLC maps couldn't watch certain DVDs for a period of time then the thing died on me.

On the game disc. its not completely smooth looking. It has that kind of water mark window tint bubbling up look in a pretty large area of the disc not sure if that is the culprit if so. Seems bungie wasn't on their P and Qs on disc development Must be slave labor or something. But a statement needs to made officially about this. Cause their games are the only games I have these issues with. I'm gonna try swapping for a new copy if that fails I don't know what to do.

I double-dare you to do what I did and try. :)

Seriously now - I agree it is a mix of disc AND hardware combo. But I beleive there are two variables here, not just one (hardware).

I have a disc cleaner which has fixed every other bad disc i've had before halo reach and that didn't do anything and the disc is perfect so i'll wait till i get my new xbox elite tomorrow ;)

Just bumping it up. :/

Same problem, Installed to hard drive I could play one or two matches online, at the end of a match or sometimes starting it would say "disc unreadable". Uninstalled from hard drive ran from disc, couldn't even get that far.

Wiped all ODST data
Cleared the cache
Tried from playing from hard drive, playing from disc same problem

Long may you run.

Just a quick question, there was a DRE with the ODST discs too. How many of you had the same problem with ODST? Is it the same xbox?

It is the disks. I have a white 360 with grey tray and got a midnight launch disk from Game Stop in Santa Clara, CA, got it home tried the disk and the 360 thought is was only a DVD. Went right back to GameStop got a new disk and this one works fine, no issues with playing the full campaign and some match making. The GameStop told me I was the third person to return it to them, this was around 12:30AM.

Many people have mentioned installing the game to their HDD, try that.

  • 09.15.2010 9:50 AM PDT

As i have posted many times, i have tried 3 brand new discs all with the same error and when i install to the hard drive i just get a green screen when the game starts to run

  • 09.15.2010 9:53 AM PDT

That was the very first thing I did with my copy of reach and I still have DRE.

  • 09.15.2010 9:54 AM PDT

I will recieve my 360 halo reach bundle in three hours, but I think this problem is downright dumb. It's outrageous to sell a product to a consumer and not knowing whether it will work or not on their xbox.

this should have been tested. I dont care if they wanted to go gold early and release it, they should have been responsible enough to test this for this sort of things and release a little later, I mean it is their biggest franchise
whether microsoft's fault or bungie's,

Oh well...this whole thing is depressing me just watching LOL.
Here's to hoping mine works...:/

  • 09.15.2010 9:55 AM PDT

Returned the disc, re-installed. Played 1 match online. When being taken to the stats screen after the match I get the disc unreadable error.

Installing to the hard drive gets your further but does not fix the issue.

just a recap for those who missed my post last night. (I was on my third halo reach disk and my launch 360 could not play it with out the clean disk error or green screen, I went and bought a slim to compare and test and no problems at all ill take the disk out and then put it in my launch console and errors galore)

I am so angry, they would release a product not suited for all the consoles, I camped out for this release I scheduled two days off work to enjoy my halo and cannot even play it. My girlfriend is trying to calm me down, she was the one that told me to just go buy another xbox till Microsoft does something about the launch consoles. So I did it took the edge off. I compared the slim to the launch console and the performance is like night and day I have yet to get one freeze or a green screen, installed or just running it from the disc. The 2010 X box slim has had no issues I am defiantly calling microsoft tomorrow so they can mail me my box and i can ship them there piece of crap console to repair. Then ill return the slim, for a full refund at best buy just a tip if you are a premiere customer you have 45 days to return the xbox slim if your not you have 30 days.

Microsoft has really dropped the ball first the red rings now halo there brand can not be counted on how can they expect me to by there next console. Look at there track record, and Bungie obviously didn't care to truly test this game, seems like there testing of product is quite the joke how could this be overlooked.

I need results someone needs to tell me something, this is not right.

  • 09.15.2010 9:57 AM PDT

I'm starting to think this is an issue with saving data to the hard drive. The game seems to crash for a lot of people right after a cutscene where the game would start saving for the first checkpoint.

It also has been known to revert people who have just about finished a mission back to the beginning because it did not save.

If you install the game to the hard drive you cant get the game to load at all and instead get a green screen.

Just a thought.
