has bungie addressed this problem?

not yet, although microsoft is addressing the 4gb slim problem so maybe now they might take this a little more seriously as well.

so im guessing the slims have newer/updated hardware?
makes sense, I mean it does say on the xbox box its kinect compatible, I wouldn't be suprised if these new ones include something else like maybe more internal ram to run kinect and other advanced bigger content driven games like halo reach..

My brother is having issues, too. In multiplayer, after finding players, it quites to the dashboard and says that his disc is unreadable. He was able to play 3 games yesterday afternoon but then nothing else so far. The disc looks fine. I used DVD Dr. to clean it as well but that didn't fix the issue.

The disc does have a weird "watermark" on it though. Just like StormRider99 describes.
"On the game disc. its not completely smooth looking. It has that kind of water mark window tint bubbling up look in a pretty large area of the disc not sure if that is the culprit if so."

However, I played multiplayer just fine last night in a dozen or so games with the same disc. We haven't tried Campaign yet because I'm waiting for my copy (c'mon USPS, don't fail me! :D)

He has a first launch xbox that was repaired twice - one via the RRoD and the second via a video display issue. I have a model that came out a few months later. Not sure which one.

Hope we get some more official information soon.

I'm starting to think this is an issue with saving data to the hard drive. The game seems to crash for a lot of people right after a cutscene where the game would start saving for the first checkpoint.

It also has been known to revert people who have just about finished a mission back to the beginning because it did not save.

If you install the game to the hard drive you cant get the game to load at all and instead get a green screen.

Just a thought.

I removed hard drive and tried to use memory card but it crashes upon loading a level so i think it's to do with the CPU trying to load the game as i completed a couple of mission but it crashes when trying to load the next one and i can use mission select to get to the third mission but i get error when i try and play it and another reason is that it crashes on trying to load up a custom game or firefight or anything

Nah at least not for me maps which I can load are as what follows (Reflection, the mid ship like map, some of the forge maps dont know the names off the top of my head) Basically if the map is asylum in match making then I can play anything else freeze !

I have a launch 20 gig pro, and it works like a charm. I guess I got lucky.

  • 09.15.2010 10:06 AM PDT

looks like Kotaku is now also looking into this problem as well so it seems more hopeful that we will get some sort of official response from Bungie or Microsoft

I got an Arcade from Dec 2007 (they came out with Arcade in Oct. 2007) and my trusty 20GB HDD I got off ebay like 4months later, and it plays Reach fine - well the first thing I did on it was go straight to FORGE and I did not play the campaing yet, but the guy at Gamestop did ask me if I wanted to buy 1yr insurance plan for the game ($3.00) so if the disc did not work or it got scratched I could replace it. So now is that only a coincidence or did he know about the problems and did not tell me?

Never the less, I am getting a Slim Moel (250GB) this Black Friday

No, gamestop employees are supposed to ask you things like that. They are evaluated on how many pre-orders and plans like that.

Refund the disc and get another one. It is unfortunate but this does happen to about 1/1000 discs.

Quite a few people have done this but the problem still occurs.

Taking the disc back won't work. there are a few here for whom it may work, however i had this problem after 1 month of halo 3, and already having it with reach. it's a problem with the box, not the disc i used it in someone else's already

I'm on my third disc in a row from the store all with the same error

  • 09.15.2010 10:23 AM PDT

just seen this thread guys and read half way thru - i'm sorry to say that anyone having a DISC READ ERROR PROBLEM will need a new console most likely.
This was also a major issue with the release of halo 3.
I replaced my disc 3 times with no success before i found that it was the console.
I upgraded to a 120 gb elite and the problem was immediately solved and had no further issues.

Anyone think that maybe it's some kind of memory or RAM problem. That basically the 360 just doesn't have enough gusto to handle the game. I noticed the animation in the 1st cut scene when noble team was being brief and Jorge who was picking up his gun was moving kinda choppy.

Choppyness has been reported by a lot of people, even those with slims, so that does not seem likely.

My son started playing the game first on an older Xbox 360 I gave him. It's a 20gb white with chrome drive. My launch console E-74'd and this was the one Microsoft sent back. He is getting disc read errors and unable to load content errors in multiplayer. No other discs do this, it's just the Reach disc.
We took the same disc and played in my black elite 360. Played for the same amount of time and never had an error. Worked perfectly.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with HD space? I still have about 50G left on my elite. He has about 100 meg left on his HD. Will try to free up space later on his box to about a gig and see if that helps at all. Don't think that's it but I'll give it a shot later and report back.

Space also shouldn't be an issue. I have 13gb left and I still get the same error. This is on two completely different hard drives too.

Nope, I have over 120GB of space left, no joy.

Hmm I was having problems and went to the dashboard and deleted a couple files to games I don't have anymore. And got through a bunch of firefight matches with no problems.

Deleted about 2-4 GB of stuff.

Thats what i was thinking particularly with the 4GB slim problem and they seem to be directing its problems to the amount of memory I know I have about 2Gigs left after installing the game. before installing I had 9Gigs. Was thinking about erasing some games that I don't have anymore. Question does erasing game date affect said games achievements.

I deleted a bunch of games and still kept the achievements.
