I had the same problem. In fact, after trying the Reach disc no game would play. I cleared the cache, same problem. But for whatever reason, after putting in a standard DVD movie and playing it, everything was back to normal (going on 36 hours).

It's worth a shot.

I work for a gaming retailer and may have found a solution to the Halo Reach disc reading errors. If you look at the back of the Halo Reach box, look at the UPC Code. It should say one of two things. 1 - Made in Mexico or 2 - Made in Puerto Rico. I am seeing ones that have been made in Puerto Rico that aren't working on US XBox machines. I highly suggest that you return your disc to the store you bought it from and see if you can get a Made in Mexico game disc.

If it wasn't Made in Mexico you have received a wrong version and I believe that is why it isn't running. There could be further issues, but this seems to be "the" issue from our current testing with discs.

Hopefully that helps some people. However, unfortunately it seems most of us in heres problems have to do with the console

Awesome discovery. Will be paying attention to this. *thumbsup*

Hey lady, we're ready for your DVDA shot!!

Just called MS and after trying all their troubleshooting techniques, they told me to send my Xbox into their service center. They did say that even though my warranty had expired, they would try and fix the problem free of charge. So I guess I've got to wait a few more weeks to play Reach. Sometimes I really hate my luck.

Lets try not to mix up problems here. It seems most of our problems have to do with older consoles, not where the game was made

Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX. Posting on our forums helps bring it to our attention, and we are in contact with MS, but if you don't call it in they have no way of determining the scope of the problem and it will ultimately take them longer to determine a solution.

I have a Made in Mexico disc and I have the same symptoms.

Unfortunately (where the disc was made) is the only problem that I can speak to but hopefully it will help some people.

  • 09.15.2010 1:28 PM PDT

Did most people getting this problem buy their games at Gamestop? Or have many of you purchased the game at BestBuy, Walm-mart etc...and get the same results?

  • 09.15.2010 1:31 PM PDT

I really hope Bungie will figure it out and we won't have to send our boxes in. And if we do have to send them in and go without them for a couple weeks, we better get some sort of compensation! Unfortunately, I don't expect a title update to be able to fix this. I had the same problem with ODST and the only thing that got "updated" on ODST was the ability to play the Reach BETA. I think all we can hope to get is a free fix from Microsoft if they can figure out why it doesn't work on the first generation boxes (and maybe some free months of LIVE?).

  • 09.15.2010 1:33 PM PDT

Had to get out the boat so i could walk on water

lol ok damn so let me sum this up, if its not made in Mexico its broken disc, if you got old system, it wont load, if you dont have hard drive it wont play, if you have disc that has blotches on it wont work, if you system is white and gray disc tray it wont load, hold up if its installed you can still get disc wont read, if its not perfect mint condition 2010 xbox halo edition console it wont work

WTF !!!!

  • 09.15.2010 1:38 PM PDT

lmao...

  • 09.15.2010 1:38 PM PDT

The point is, we shouldn't have to send in our boxes for one game. It isn't broken. I have plenty of games that WORK like they are supposed too. I regret buying Reach at this point.

  • 09.15.2010 1:38 PM PDT

I am waiting for microsoft to tell us to boil the disk.

  • 09.15.2010 1:38 PM PDT

Talking to 1 800 4 MY XBOX now. My console is long out of warranty but they are making an exemption from paying "repair" fees because only Halo Reach is unplayable. A free fix is fine but now I can't play Reach or any other game for another 3+ weeks. Awesome. They are compensating me with a free 1 month xbox live card! That totally makes up for everything.

My console works for every other game but Halo Reach and it needs to be repaired to play it.

Good luck to everyone else dealing with this garbage.
