Hey lady, we're ready for your DVDA shot!!

The point is, we shouldn't have to send in our boxes for one game. It isn't broken. I have plenty of games that WORK like they are supposed too. I regret buying Reach at this point.

Exactly.

not true i'm playing on an arcade with a 20GB hard drive

  • 09.15.2010 1:40 PM PDT

So your saying you are willing to settle with even more of an inconveinence than you were faced with before? Your sending in a perfectly good xbox, for 3 weeks mind you, to get 'fixed' for Reach, when you don't know if it will for sure be fixed?

Where is The Alpha

I will take what we have

One step further

My question is that why do we have to do this in the first place? Why couldnt you have tested this before on all the different consoles(0bviously i mean the different 360 versions. dont test halo on the PS3. :P)? This seems like something that easily could be avoided. Now we have this made in mexico or puerto rico stuff? Why do we have to call MS if it could be your bad disk?

basically I havnt been able to get the game yet. But I will be getting the game this weekend hopefully and plan on getting limited edition. I do not want to waste 80 dollars. And to have it possibly screw up my xbox forcing me to get the new one(which would be nice to get but not needed).

Talking to 1 800 4 MY XBOX now. My console is long out of warranty but they are making an exemption from paying "repair" fees because only Halo Reach is unplayable. A free fix is fine but now I can't play Reach or any other game for another 3+ weeks. Awesome. They are compensating me with a free 1 month xbox live card! That totally makes up for everything.

My console works for every other game but Halo Reach and it needs to be repaired to play it.

Good luck to everyone else dealing with this garbage.

Yo why should we go through such things because they released a defective product, i never read or heard of such problems with a game in my life...

Your exactly right. We shouldn't be expected to do this.

So do i need to call MS again after i was told there is nothing they can do?

Yes. They may not be able to supply you with an immediate resolution, and each case may require a different support approach, but no matter the case or ultimate resolution, you should be calling 1-800-4-MY-XBOX begin_of_the_skype_highlighting               1-800-4 -MY-XBOX      end_of_the_skype_ highlighting, registering a support claim, and recording your case ID.

I know it sucks to buy a game and not be able to play it. Please bear with us.
So on my seventh call to 1-800-4MY-XBOX i was finally sent to an escalation specialist. He told me "We do not have proper troubleshooting for Halo Reach." Turns out i need to send in my 360. Because my launch console is no longer under warranty it will cost me $119. I told him i haven't had this problem with any other games and $119 sounds like a lot to play a game i just paid $80 for. He gave me a reference number and said to call if I change my mind. Awesome.

  • 09.15.2010 1:52 PM PDT

on phone to support now so far just asked if i've cleared cache, tried without HDD etc

  • 09.15.2010 1:55 PM PDT

Support told me to play the first level offline, and then offline again with a different profile to see if the problem happened. Finish first level, blam, unreadable disc.

  • 09.15.2010 1:57 PM PDT

They say it is an emerging issue and according to a "senior member of the team" a PATCH will be released. Again they say it will be a PATCH not a repair. But is it just a load of blam!

  • 09.15.2010 1:58 PM PDT

just happened to me, but I was still online. Seems like each time I try to play the game I get just a little bit further before the DRE appears.

I'm not happy about it all but I'm just done wasting my time with it. I can try and contact Microsoft and Bungie and let them know how much of an inconvenience and how much time I've wasted dealing with this issue and let them know I'm mad, but no one is going to do anything about it to make it better or compensate for our frustrations. So I'm just settling and sending it in to get this taken care of so I can play a game I've been anticipating for a very long time. Sucks, but I don't see any better solution other than passing on Reach all together. I now have very strong opinions of Microsoft and Bungie.

lol I'm debating on just buying the reach console, I have a 20 gig pro, I hope it works... anyone have a 20 gig pro from '07 that DOES work?

Creator of the Bungie.Net game Find The SI

The first time I popped in my Reach disc, it came up as a DVD, I hit the eject button on my dashboard, closed it again, and it works perfectly fine. A slight scare, but a simple fix I suppose.

Because it's Bungie fault. I mean Bungie MUST have their own manufacturing plant in various countries.

The problem here is MS, not Bungie.

Subject: Disc Not Reading

I've just called Xbox Support. I told the rep about the problems i'm having with Reach giving me "This Disc Is Unreadable" errors. I told him that the game works in my brothers Xbox, that he has completed the campaign portion of the game without any issues.

I also told the rep that I have installed the game to my hard drive aswell as tried to play the game from the disc, that I have also tried playing with the hard drive disconnected from the xbox. I stll get the "this disc is unreadable" error at the exact same point, everytime... right after the very first cutscene.

The rep then asked for my consoles serial, he then said that i'd have to pay £88 to get my console repaired as it is out of warranty. I then said no thanks and asked for a customer reference number. After the rep asked me why I wanted one... he hung up. Nice.

can anyone tell me what ppl mean by the "launch" xbox 360? do you mean the launch of the new one or the older versions? Cause I have an older one (white with silver tray and hardrive on the side). So has reach worked on people with this console?

Like I said I will be pissed if i have to waste $80 dollars this weekend. Let alone shell out cash for a new console. On top of that I do not wanna waste time with microsoft customer service or whatever.

Shows that they don't know the problem yet. The rep i spoke to said it would be patched

I went thru the same bull-blam!-. I told the "escalation specialist" that if that was the case I'm sure they wouldn't argue if I just went and bought another console. His response, in his native Indian tongue, was "the decision is entirely up to you, sir." Yeah....right. Thanks for selling me a product that doesn't work as promised. You guys got away with it for ODST. Hopefully, it won't slip by again.

Just for the record this is my situation:

When trying to load a game it will either a)say the disc is unreadable or b)load and freeze within minutes while playing. The video freezes first and the audio stops a few seconds after the video freezes. When I press the guide button, it still makes the noise but nothing changes visually and there is nothing else I can do.

The problems persist when the game installed to my HDD. Nothing changes when I used a different HDD or none at all. I've also tried clearing the cache on both HDDs (120GB and 20GB).

I have gotten the "green screen" as mentioned in a previous post when first trying to load the game (as it fades away from the dashboard).

Essentially, the game is virtually unplayable in my first generation Xbox, but works perfectly in my roommate's recently bought Arcade. I bought a lens cleaner and ran it, but it fixed nothing. In my experience, the problem lies with the game and first generation Xbox 360s. Oddly enough, I had the same problem with ODST.

Sorry everyone for the long post, but I want to help as much as I can. I'm hoping someone at Bungie or Microsoft will find this information useful. And here's to hoping they can find a fix!

It's the version of the xbox 360 that came out in November 2005. Shipped with a 20GB HDD.

ok. I dont have that. Plus I hear the problem was for ODST too. But my ODST worked fine. So does that mean I should be good.

  • 09.15.2010 2:17 PM PDT

I have neither a launch version nor trouble with ODST and still cannot play Reach. The best I get is one of those "Lol is dis gaem a DVD? gess nawt guise oops" screens.

  • 09.15.2010 2:20 PM PDT

The @XboxSupport twitter page is full of people saying Reach isn't working so I think this problem should start to get the attention it deserves.

Subject: Disc Not Reading? Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for support (see page 35).

Decided to tweet the problem to them, getting the usual troubleshooting stuff.

Although right now I am in the process of recovering my GT after deleting it, as they have me to do so.

Let's see what happens.

BTW. I seem to have a smaller problem than most, I can get into the main menu and can matchmaking and a little bit of campaign. Firefight doesn't work for me at all, but weirdly variants like Rocketfight do...
