They probably would have just ran the program straight from memory with no disc while testing and would have expected it to work with all versions (which it does just some are more prone to crashing than others) like we did

Generic response, not a fix or any kind of solid answer.

I can't fix your problem with a forum post. Did you call support?
Yes, and I was told that I could send my Xbox in for repairs for 90$ because my warranty is up. I don't especially feel like sending my Xbox in for repairs (again) when all other games besides this one work fine.

$90. The guy I talked to told me $119.

Subject: Disc Not Reading

So I was playing. And while I was, My console just started to eat my disc. I took it out as quick as i could and now there's a huge ring around it. So far everything checked out fine until campaign level 7. I'm pissed...

On another note i do have a 1st gen xbox w/o HDMI support but it's been shipped back for red rings twice. So I think it rocks an opus mobo and the BenQ disc drives.

  • 09.15.2010 3:08 PM PDT

Everone should try playing without there hard drives, see if that

Hang onto your support ticket. As soon as I get an update on the situation, I'll report back here.

why don't you quote it, and post it into the OP?

Seriously... I have no idea what that is...

Opening Post or Original Post.

It would be best to edit it with everything said about what to do, so no one would have to fish around the 30+ pages for an answer.

They say it is an emerging issue and according to a "senior member of the team" a PATCH will be released. Again they say it will be a PATCH not a repair. But is it just a load of blam!
Repair implys physical, Patch implys software or firmware.

Look, the simple fact of the matter is, either NOBODY knows for sure what is happening, or none of these corporate jerks are letting on.

I've heard people having to send in their console at prices from free to $90 to $119. Some guy said 80 quid. I've heard there will be patches, and the simple fact is, I don't think ANY of these support representatives know how to handle the problem, judging by the bull-blam!- range of attempts i've caught wind of, many of which seem to be unrelated both to each other and the problem at hand.

If they're working on a patch, and they probably are (because I don't see this being a hardware issue - there is no reason any hardware should reject a specific game) they must have seen it fit not to inform their support representatives.

I just hope either i'm unaffected or the problem has been fixed by Friday Afternoon, when I get my chance to play the game.

Hello im having the same problems... I bought reach and my sound will just fade and thats the sign of death.. anytime after that something loads the game freezes and says the game is unreadable... Well thats nuts because I have a new xbox slim... this is the 2nd game ive played on it... its a few weeks old at that. I even installed it to my hard drive and it says the game disc is unreadable...

And shepherds we shall be.
For thee my Lord for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may quickly carry out Thy command.
We shall flow a river forth to Thee,
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.

Thanks Urk! I have my support ticket saved, and ready to go. I'll be monitoring the Forum. I was so bummed to get home, unbox my statue and Halsey's Diary, go to play the game and have craziness ensue. But I know Bungie loves us and if there's anything they can do they will. Thanks for supporting the fans, even those of us with Launch 360s. (The irony being I only have a launch 360 because that's what MS sent me back after my 2nd Red Ring.)

The more commotion is being made about it, the bigger a problem these people realise it is, and the more in their interest it is to fix the problem.

If several hundred or maybe even several thousand people were having these problems, it would likely be very back burner because those numbers pale in comparison to the millions of sold copies. But the more commotion is made, they start to realise how many people are being affected (and I don't know how many that is, as it could be anywhere from tens of thousands to a million - MANY people would not think of searching the internet for a solution) and they want to fix the problem, lest they lose money for it and possibly even get dragged into a lawsuit.

I just turned my xbox from vertical to horizontal and i made it past the first cut scene. Paused it and came here to report. 10:1 when I unpause it the disk is ureadable. Any takers?

thousands of people being a back burner problem tells me that they just dont care. if its in the thousands then there is a problem.

I have a feeling by this weekend its really gonna get bad. Because currently a lot of people still may be in school and just waiting for the weekend to get any good time to play let alone buy the game. if this second surge of purchases results in roughly half having this disc unreadable problem then they will have a serious problem. Something that needs to be fixed now. Not when a million people complain.

Subject: Disc Not Reading

The things I've noticed:
1. Incredibly long loads without install.
2. Missing sound effects in Firefight.
3. Game gets a disc read error when finishing loading Tip of the Spear
4. Some serious, game halting framerate drops during checkpoints.

I haven't even tried multiplayer yet, I don't want to be saddened moreso.

Subject: Disc Not Reading? Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for support (see page 35).

Also I'm pretty sure its my Xbox. My friend has a perfectly fine copy on his Elite. I have a Pro 20gb upgraded to a 120gb. My copy of the game worked on his system, and his copy didn't work on mine when tested.

If both discs worked fine on his, and not on my Xbox, that's the conclusion I'm getting.

RANDOM fix. Halo: Reach on my Xbox, with HD in: Disc Read Errors. Installed on my hard drive, my xbox, Green screen, disc read error. My Hard Drive, Different Xbox, no problem, My hard drive, different xbox, game installed to HD, no problems

So I figure it's my system.

My Xbox, transferred my profile to an MU and unhooked my HD: Success. Granted, no co-op, but it's a temporary workaround.

This seems to be an issue between certain hardwares and how they write to and read from the HD. I have a Red Ring returned Launch box, so it has the newer chipset, but no HDMI. It may be the disc drive, or the HDD or both, but I have an upgraded 120 gig HDD. Still, weird.

Luckily that didn't happen to me, but that really sucks. Especially for the people who have been waiting forever, went to midnight release, and were excited until the disk went in the tray. Almost worse than getting a RROD.
