Thanks Urk. =)

Don't thank me yet. These issues tend to take time to resolve. We'll likely have to wait longer than we want to. :(

We'll stay on top of it though.

And shepherds we shall be.
For thee my Lord for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may quickly carry out Thy command.
We shall flow a river forth to Thee,
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.

Update on my earlier post:
"RANDOM fix. Halo: Reach on my Xbox, with HD in: Disc Read Errors. Installed on my hard drive, my xbox, Green screen, disc read error. My Hard Drive, Different Xbox, no problem, My hard drive, different xbox, game installed to HD, no problems

So I figure it's my system.

My Xbox, transferred my profile to an MU and unhooked my HD: Success. Granted, no co-op, but it's a temporary workaround.

This seems to be an issue between certain hardwares and how they write to and read from the HD. I have a Red Ring returned Launch box, so it has the newer chipset, but no HDMI. It may be the disc drive, or the HDD or both, but I have an upgraded 120 gig HDD. Still, weird."

So I tried starting it up again really quick without the MU in it, remembering that the MU DLed a new system update, and without the MU, the disc drive went haywire, it sounded insane, but it couldn't read the disc at all, not even at the dashboard to say what game it was.

this is why Bungie is leaving M$ lol

  • 09.15.2010 4:02 PM PDT

Where is The Alpha

I will take what we have

One step further

Something that is annoying me is that people are saying this is microsofts fault. it isnt. Bungie has Xbox 360ies to work with the whole time. if at anytime it doesnt work they need to go back and fix it. I do not see how this problem could of gone unnoticed till release.

Are just fewer people having this happen then we think? it just seems odd.

Again. Im only being so active because I do not want to waste 80 bucks this weekend. so urk. can you gaurantee i will not waste 80 bucks? that I should be safe?

Maybe until the next Halo game comes out ;)

I wish my Xbox HD-DVD drive could read game disks. Would be an easy way to show if it's an optical drive problem or something else.

I have yet tried online co-op but from what I understand, I'll be needing a hard drive for this - a hard drive which causes the game to die.

I'll probably give MS a ring. I assume they are 24/7? Might get an outsourced call center when I'm calling this late into the night.

Yes, and I was told that I could send my Xbox in for repairs for 90$ because my warranty is up. I don't especially feel like sending my Xbox in for repairs (again) when all other games besides this one work fine.

$90. The guy I talked to told me $119.

I was told $119 also
My warranty is up as well and they are giving me a free repair. Might want to mention that if you call them again.

If @ 1st you don't succeed, call it version 1.0

I've read most of the pages in this thread but not all, I feel for you guys having problems. Luckily I bought an Xbox Slim a month or so ago and I haven't had any major problems.

I know it seems to be launch models that have been affected but I'd just like to throw in there I have had a couple of issues.

Firstly and this is no doubt unrelated to the problems you guys are having but towards the end of the game there are some moments where the game frame rate drops incredibly low. At one point I thought my Xbox had crashed, got up to reset it only to get pummeled by an Elite. I put this down to the fact that there was a lot going on. This has happened a few times but as I say no big deal.

The other issue I have had, and someone else mentioned it was one of the problems launch models were encountering is loss of sound. I have finished the campaign and played a little online and come across countless times when a sound effect wouldn't kick in, for example weapon fire, explosions etc This has been in the arena, rumble pit, firefight and offline firefight and campaign. Sometimes the sound cuts out all together, no music, no sound effects, nothing.

I know this is probably not the right place, and it's probably just bugs that will no doubt be patched in time, but I thought I'd post and let you guys know even with a 250 GB Xbox Slim less than 2 months old and I'm having a few issues.

Anyone else having these problems that has a slim or an elite?

This definitely seems to be a disk manufacturing problem and has nothing to do with hardware. I have 2 xboxs (both Arcades with MFD of 2007-8-8 & 2007-9-6 respectively). I have had 2 retail copies of Reach and neither of them have worked on either xbox. The Xbox rep told me that I had to send my console in for repairs, but considering that the console works for every other game I'm not goin to.

However one console is flashed and I wanted to play Reach early a few weeks ago so I downloaded and burnt a copy (don't hate). This has worked perfectly and has no "air bubbles" on the disk. So until a fix is found it looks like I'm gonna be stuck playing Reach offline with my flashed console...

Wait a minute...they're charging you? They didn't charge me anything.

I also was not charged for repairs... but i tell you what, if I get my console back and the problem still is happening, i'm going to the ACCC or the Ombudsman about it... i should anyway because that would mean that sending it away for 2 weeks would be a waste of time and if you ask me, microsoft should reimburse all affected with replaced xbox consoles... even just black elite consoles, but a slim would be really nice>

I'll be mega pissed though

Sad to say my first post on these forums has to be on this issue, i've been having all the symptoms from cant getting past the first cutsence to green screens or the disc being thought of as a DVD, i swapped the disc for another already and nothing changed, and of course my friend with an Elite could run both his copy and mine with no issue. makes me rage, i'm using a Pre HDMI port Xbox and upgraded the hard drive to 250GB

should i wait for a patch to come out(if it can be fixed by one) or should i just call xbox and pray they'll fix it for free?(i've read through the 40pages) i dont want to have to turn it in just because reach isnt working, i can play Transformers WFC, Mass Effect 2, ect all my other games just fine

I found a temporary fix. I was in the same boat as everyone here but at least now I can play multiplayer. Check this out everyone!

i was in the same boat as you Emperor777... all my games played fine and I said to support that maybe i should just wait and see since i can still play my other games but because they are fixing the console for free they said to sent it because they would only going to do it as a one time offer...

For anyone who have spoken to support make sure you tell them that this is happening everywhere and that there are people out there who are being given repairs for free and that you wish to be given the same treatment because it's the same issue and that they have no right to charge for the repair

Hah! I got a freakin 360 Elite and mine is even broken... I thought they solved any issue the 360 had a while back?

  • 09.15.2010 5:32 PM PDT

I spent 45 mins on the phone with Microsoft and it seems its Hard Drive related. Game works fine on my Launch console aslong as the HD is NOT attached. Gonna be a -blam!- for playing the campaign. Reminds me of the days of Nintendo NES and leaving Mario Bros. on for DAYS ...

Subject: Disc Not Reading? Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for support (see page 35).

Call The 1800 number. Seriously I was a non-believer, in fact I blamed GameStop and brought back two disks. They walked me through a troubleshoot, shot me up to a higher level tech who said that Microsoft was "aware" of the problem. He said that it was a CONSOLE issue (< not in bold because I'm yelling I just want to make sure everybody sees it).

He then told me that the repairs would be complementary. (As if we haven't given Microsoft enough money over the years.) My console is way out of warranty and I was worried about dumping $$-$$$ into it only to have it fail again next time I get a new game. He said not to worry and e-mailed me a shipping label and told me to take the console to a UPS store with the Shipping Label.

Now, I did have to call 3 times to get someone who spoke english as their first language. (I'm from the United States) And I did spend nearly 90 minutes on the phone, but after getting some closure on the issue I am happy to report back to all of you that if you are indeed having an issue, CALL THE 1800 NUMBER. Be persistent. If they don't put you on with someone who is helpful the first time, call back. And tell them that you want whatever repairs to be complementary. Be patient and try to remember the poor SOB on the phone has to listen to these problems all day.

Hell of a first post huh?

  • 09.15.2010 5:37 PM PDT

it can't be a hard drive problem because I recently bought a 250G and i tried a few of my games and they all worked flawlessly and they were loading from the hard drive so i don't know about that but then again everyone is having different things so maybe in your case it is a hard drive issue but still...

-blam!- this -blam!-.... come one I need answers and microsoft sure as hell haven't given any yet
