Subject: Disc Not Reading

I'm on my fourth 360 after previous RROD. My latest console returned to me from MS is about 2 years older than the original I bought. So I'm on an original release 360 that won't read the genuine reach game disk. The console reads the disk at first and lets me browse the reach menu's. When I select solo campaign it loads for 30 seconds then pops up with the clean disk and reboot error before the game engine starts. This always happens without fail. I returned the disc to the store (Target) but the replacement disc does the exact same thing. I'm not on the network so ethernet is unplugged. I have a lite on drive and original 20 gig hard drive. Clearing the cache doesn't help. Removing the drive doesn't help. At first I couldn't even install the game to the hard drive. I installed the latest console update via flash drive today and I got the disc to install to the hard drive after that. So the update helped or changed the issue. The game still dies from the hard drive just before the in game action render engine starts. This sucks. Classic MS lack of quality.

I have the same problems with my launch Xbox.

Green Screen, freezing trying to load Campaign, freezing as a Match ends etc.

Get your first console: 400$

Get it repaired for RROD: 100$

Get the new Xbox slim: 300$

Get Halo Reach: 60$

Get it repaired so it can play Halo Reach: 119$

Your anger: priceless

So I contacted customer support, they are sending me another console even though I am now out of warranty (for free). With that and the fact I exchanged the game this morning to see if it was the disc, it has cost Microsoft a lot of money because of this problem. With shipping, time spent paying the customer service rep, the fact that my original disc probably had nothing wrong with it, I can see it costing Microsoft around $300+ easily for whatever the actual issue is.

Glad I was one of the first ones to call in after I saw the post. I imagine after more people call in they will stop swapping the systems out.

We Want Fun!

I've had the same problem. I have an early launch xbox. I've sent it in twice now to get fixed. In 4 or 5 different missions it would always freeze at the same spot. I had to save and quit my game at the checkpoint right before it would freeze and then reload the game. Even then It would only work after a few tries to get past the spot. And after I went and reloaded it and beat the level it says I haven't.

Just found out its my hard drive..... Removed it and the game works fine. WTF do i do now buy a new hard drive?

NEVER MIND STILL DISC READ ERROR

Based on the naughty naughty pirate's post, it isn't a matter of game software but the disc itself. Based on the fact that many MANY people can actually play these discs, it comes back to the issue of one's own Xbox. Based on the fact that some people can get it to work without an HD plugged in... I have no freaking idea.

My odst discs USED to work untill about a month ago. Lately i've also had what i thought was a faulty copy of kane and lynch 2 from gamefly, froze during chapter two load screen..... My question is why did the 4My xbox guy i talked to already charge me 129$!?!?!? ....i wont be sending it in til i heat some news.

I am so blown right now

Yes! I painted my case a few years ago so there's no way I have any chance of getting my xbox repaired now. Guess I'll trade the game in for FIFA 11.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. I would be willing to bet all the money I have that they knew about this problem a long time ago. They probably had some actuary draw up some algorithm and calculate out whether it was worth it to try and fix the problem. They would've taken the estimated number of people who still have a launch 360 and determined what percentage of people could return the game and them not lose money over it. I'm sure there are other variables involved when calculating such a thing, but it all comes down to whether the percentage is low enough to take the risk. Also, the only reason it wouldn't be worth it is cuz it would be expensive to fix, AKA take a hell of a long time. They may or may not know what the direct cause is, but I imagine they have narrowed it down to the hardware in the launch 360 is inadequate. It might just be the cynic in me, but I bet they know what the exact problem is and just hope that more people will buy a new Xbox rather than mess with it.

I said earlier that I highly doubt that this is something they can fix with software without HUGE revisions to the game. I just hope Bungie and Microsoft make it right. M$ is the publisher and we all know that this is a fairly high profile game so hopefully this problem will get the attention it deserves and get fixed.

I guess some kind of compensation is getting the consoles fixed for free but i still think that there should be more considering that we could have just as easily taken our games back and kept playing our other games instead of parting with our consoles and playing nothing.. I think that if they want us to use newer consoles then they can providing the bloody things themselves... we've already payed once for a console that still works, if they're too lazy to test this game properly then that's not our problem and it's up to microsoft to do something drastic about it... cause until i get a working console for this game, i'll be dragging this game through the mud with every single person i talk to about the game... -blam!- You BungLe and -blam!- You Micro$oft Coxz

Played forge for like an hour fine, went to fire fight froze after 7-10 mintues. Started back up played 2-3 doubles matches then froze right after walking about ten feet. :/

Bungie and Microsoft have acknowledged the problem

Urk has posted a few times on this thread, and on a site someone posted, Microsoft were looking into it.

Don't lose hope

From what others are saying, some of the newer versions also can't read it.
They also might not have known about the issue as majority of people are able to play it, which includes Bungie and Microsoft.

i knew he did i want anoter one. this is there fault along with the framerate problems

  • 09.15.2010 6:20 PM PDT

you know after waiting 2 weeks without my xbox and reach i'm so tempted to just take it back and not get it at all because all my friends will have finished it and then who the hell am i going to play with... damn this -blam!-, i want a new console so i can play a game which is exclusive to pretty much every version except launch's and a couple of elites but mostly launch's...

  • 09.15.2010 6:22 PM PDT

I'm having the same problem, I find it hard to believe NO ONE who beta tested this game in the company had this problem. I mean... how can you release millions of copies of a video game and NOT thoroughly test it on every combination of console, hard drive, etc...

That would be one of the worst oversights by a company that produces SOFTWARE. Testing on every platform should have raised the issue.

I'm in the same boat as that other guy on here who is on their third repaired console. 2 RROD in the past and now I have a console marked on the back as "Service Date: 2009 05 09" so it should have the newer hardware?

Funny, this happened when I got Halo 3, the RROD sidelined me for 3 weeks! Weak..

  • 09.15.2010 6:30 PM PDT

this is the worst thing i have ever seen in gaming. Bungie should be ashamed

  • 09.15.2010 6:35 PM PDT

alright,

I'm getting the same problem as everyone else, random disc read errors, freazing at the end of matches, failed to load content,

I'm on the new xbox elite though, brand spanking new xbox, figured it was the disc so I went to gamestop and exchanged it (gotta thank them for helping me out)

figured that would fix it, got home, same exact issues.

the game was working fine for me this morning then out of the blue it froze up in a matchmaking game, said the disc was unreadable and bumped me back out.

this is really really bad for bungie and microsoft... they may actually need to do a recall on all their copies and then replace all reported faulty consoles free of charge... that really should fix everything right?...

  • 09.15.2010 6:40 PM PDT

So like really.....I'm going into gamestop first to try to get a new one if they don't give me one THEN I will call if they want me to send ANYTHING in omfg I will be hurting someone(AKA little brother :O) Such a pain in the butt. I get the game can't play it for long because I got work and school finaly get some time to myself AND ERROR WTF! Disc Quality is falling to crap now lets go back to cartridges they never seemed to let anyone down and if they did it was one quick blow into it and it was fine. (if thats how you spell it :O)

7/7 thank you

Has the Dev team been able to replicate the problem? Not for nothing but people in India reading off a computer screen really know nothing about xbox hardware or technical support, they will probably just put you on hold for 20 mins only to say send in your xbox and pay 100 dollars which will probably fix nothing
