Whats "getting the word out" gonna do? i mean im sure its on Xbox forums its on bungie forums its on fan sites(most likely).
Not to mention bungie and Xbox are probably getting flooded with calls from very angry PAYING CUSTOMERS!!
fix this. For the last halo game from bungie dont screw up.The more commotion is being made about it, the bigger a problem these people realise it is, and the more in their interest it is to fix the problem.
If several hundred or maybe even several thousand people were having these problems, it would likely be very back burner because those numbers pale in comparison to the millions of sold copies. But the more commotion is made, they start to realise how many people are being affected (and I don't know how many that is, as it could be anywhere from tens of thousands to a million - MANY people would not think of searching the internet for a solution) and they want to fix the problem, lest they lose money for it and possibly even get dragged into a lawsuit.
thousands of people being a back burner problem tells me that they just dont care. if its in the thousands then there is a problem.
I have a feeling by this weekend its really gonna get bad. Because currently a lot of people still may be in school and just waiting for the weekend to get any good time to play let alone buy the game. if this second surge of purchases results in roughly half having this disc unreadable problem then they will have a serious problem. Something that needs to be fixed now. Not when a million people complain. You're right, its not what SHOULD happen, but Microsoft is corporate. Unlike Bungie, they don't care. And it cannot be Bungie's fault. Granted, perhaps they should have done more testing, but depending on the nature of the problem, its most likely an error on Microsofts end, having to do with Disc Production or their Console Hardware. Regardless, thats why its important to get the word out. If you make a bigger deal of it, it recieves more attention - thats universal.
And i'm one of those people. I'm hesitant because I have a Release-Model Xbox (White case, Silver tray) and I recieved my copy of Reach on the fourteenth, but can't fire it up until Friday.

Thanks Urk. =)
Don't thank me yet. These issues tend to take time to resolve. We'll likely have to wait longer than we want to. :(
We'll stay on top of it though.
like weeks? Months?Unfortunately, they don't know.

Something that is annoying me is that people are saying this is microsofts fault. it isnt. Bungie has Xbox 360ies to work with the whole time. if at anytime it doesnt work they need to go back and fix it. I do not see how this problem could of gone unnoticed till release.
Are just fewer people having this happen then we think? it just seems odd.
Again. Im only being so active because I do not want to waste 80 bucks this weekend. so urk. can you gaurantee i will not waste 80 bucks? that I should be safe?Posted by: nd4speed348
I'm having the same problem, I find it hard to believe NO ONE who beta tested this game in the company had this problem. I mean... how can you release millions of copies of a video game and NOT thoroughly test it on every combination of console, hard drive, etc...
That would be one of the worst oversights by a company that produces SOFTWARE. Testing on every platform should have raised the issue.
I'm in the same boat as that other guy on here who is on their third repaired console. 2 RROD in the past and now I have a console marked on the back as "Service Date: 2009 05 09" so it should have the newer hardware?
Funny, this happened when I got Halo 3, the RROD sidelined me for 3 weeks! Weak..I don't want my money wasted either. But look, you can't blame this entirely on Bungie, particularly when they don't know the nature of the problem. And being a developer under Microsoft's wing, they probably have nothing but Xboxs with the NEW chipsets and none of the older, faulty ones that release console owners would still be using. They didn't have old equipment, and because the idea between Xbox models is compatibility, they didn't have any reason to suspect these types of issues would arise. So if it falls to the feet of Bungie, there was nothing they could have done. The story is different for Microsoft, who certinally has a history of dropping the ball.

I got a question... does it really cost that much more money to make the disk in america? .... just a thought. If it wasn't easier to do it in foreign countries, they wouldn't bother. But the American Dollar goes a bit further over there, so yes, they can manufacture things over there at reduced cost, so they do. You'd think they'd manage to keep up quality control.

it can't be a hard drive problem because I recently bought a 250G and i tried a few of my games and they all worked flawlessly and they were loading from the hard drive so i don't know about that but then again everyone is having different things so maybe in your case it is a hard drive issue but still...
-blam!- this -blam!-.... come one I need answers and microsoft sure as hell haven't given any yetIf it IS a Hard-Drive problem, then you wouldn't be affected. The problem only seems to be with the old-generation hard drives. Which is not what you have now.
Of course, if you're still having trouble, then either there is more than one problem floating around, or it is not Hard-Drive Related.

Anyway, I just hope everyone gets some closure to this. Either there needs to be a Patch to solve this problem, or everyone affected needs to recieve a fixed Xbox at the expense of Microsoft, which, yes, IS fair seeing as how its their faulty equipment. Granted, anyone out of warranty gets screwed there, but taking things to court can always fix things...
