I have a new slim, returned my copy of the game twice, and no luck. I'm not sending in a perfectly functioning xbox to play one game, as suggested by xbox support. Clearly the problem is software related or disk related.

Unless there's a patch, I'm never playing this game. Which sucks, because I remember playing the first one on launch day at my friend's apartment after waiting up all night at a mall and being blown away, and now 10 years later, can't enjoy the swan song. Obviously this is a small contingent of people considering the millions playing, but how this is handled will shed a great deal of light on how much these companies actually care.

hey man i'm an aussie, i'm in brisbane, go to the xbox australia website it's www.xbox.com/en-au

try that then go down to support and then contact support.. there is a phone number down the bottom of the screen..

Remember people, the more who call support to report the problem the better.

So would you rather go without reach altogether or without it all for only a couple of weeks and then able to play reach as well, that's the way i see it, just make sure they do it for free

  • 09.15.2010 11:05 PM PDT

There should be a warning on the game that says "Requirements: After you buy the game, call 1800-4MY-XBOX for free repair, wait 3 weeks and only then you can play this awesome game. Otherwise don't bother buying because it won't work."

I completely understand the drive to send in your xbox and get it "fixed" to play the game. I think that's pretty awesome actually as the 360 is easily the best system I've owned since the original Nintendo and I've loved everything Bungie has made since Pathways and Myth.

But my problem is I just bought a new slim, and everything else works fine. I don't see how this is a hardware issue. The laser works, the HDD works, the whole thing works. This is a software incompatibility issue between the disk and the OS. Replacing a chip won't help, and MS support is beleaguered right now and doesn't know how to actually fix it. This has to be patchable, or this is one of the greatest -blam!--up in game manufacturing history.

Im pretty upset to, first microsoft LEAKS THE GAME TO A BUNCH OF MODDER'S TO PLAY MEANING THEY WONT BUY IT, second, the disk's do not work or anything, and i thought i had a warranty, but now they want me to pay for one of there -blam!- up's
i mean what the F MICROSOFT!, im gunna have to change to a PS3 you -blam!-'s why cant you just make it free or something, it's lucky enough you guy's have idiot's like us wasting our money on you're game system's that hardly change, and then they arnt even compatible with the most anticipated game of 2010?!?!?! goddam im not payin for that.

Couldn't agree with you more. I've seen some retarded bugs before, but this just doesn't even make sense. I've seen people talking about whether or not is has to do with the game being manufactured in Puerto Rico vs. Mexico and if it was a launch and what type of disc tray it has. This is stupid. I've got a PS3, and it's alright, but the online is weaker and everytime I turn it on to watch a blu-ray because only one game a year is worth playing, I have to download a 20 minute update. Everything sucks.

Jinzo... I am getting my xbox repaired through them for free and it's been out of warranty for such a long time... so don't take that -blam!- mate, just tell them that you're not paying to repair a console that isn't faulty. and that microsoft need to do something about this... Demand they do it for free.

this thread really died off.. i guess people are all on the phone with support??? lol I hope so, tell them damn dirty apes... Damn YOUUUUUUU!!!!

I'd appreciate an update from urk as well.

I don't think this is a console specific problem.

I bought both the Halo: Reach Edition console, AND the Legendary version of the game, so I had two discs to try out, and I get read errors on both of them. After restarting the console, I was able to get past "Nightfall", and I finished the game with no more problems. I just tried to play matchmaking and got to the "voting" screen, then I got the DRE, this using the other disc, so both discs have messed up on me.

Brand new console...even bears the name of the game causing all the problems...doesn't work.

Got the game in San Diego, CA.

How do we go about getting word from microsoft? since nobody from bungie seem to be getting back to us... come on your arse holes!!!! SEE THIS POST!!!! GIVE US SOME KIND OF FEEDBACK YOU DOGS!!!!!

  • 09.15.2010 11:59 PM PDT

HORRORCON... man i feel for you, we all do.. see what you have done bungie and microsoft... we don't know who to blame but right now it's gonna be to both!

I really hope we have an answer before i get my console back from repair. so that way i can tell whether to just take the disc back or what...

  • 09.16.2010 12:01 AM PDT

checking my repair status to see whether they have received it yet and it's got everything ticked so basically it's saying... they've received my console, fixed it and sent it back already and it's only been a day... but then again i know that it really don't update very well so i'm not holding my breath..

  • 09.16.2010 12:04 AM PDT

I installed mine to the hard drive and it was working fine and when I turned it on this morning it wouldn't load. If I change my network to local it will load but if I change it to xbox live friends it won't. The when I try going into matchmaking it says I don't have a HDD, despite the fact its reading the save file and loading from it rather than the disc.

  • 09.16.2010 12:50 AM PDT

No online co-op or firefight, levels go to disc error and I get the disc error message at the end of firefight. Will sometimes get disc error message during solo campaign or occasionally I'll die and the level will start over. Matchmaking works fine. HOWEVER!! I took it to my friends house today and played on his xbox and the little -blam!- acted like there wasn't anything wrong with it. Online co-op actually worked, period. Absolutely ZERO "The disc is unreadable" errors. So part of the problem IS the console itself (I have a launch console 12g HD, RRoD twice). Also went to the Game Stop I got my game from and asked them if anyone had returned, or complained, about their game, and no one did.

SEE WHAT I MEAN!, this is ridiculous, if you brought two solid copy's of the game, and they both dont work..or they mess up, on a brand new xbox, who ever is incharge of the disk's

-blam!- UP BIG TIME!, and if it's not the disk's
who ever manufactured them
-blam!- UP BIG TIME!, i seriously cant belive they want me to pay for this -blam!-, its as i say again ridiculous, i cant belive microsoft the company i have spent thousand's of doallar's towards is yet again TELLING ME TO PAY MORE!!!
i swear it's not enough that i pay 120$ ever month on a new game
but then spend 300-600$ on a brand new console that change's the look at that's all NEXT GERERATION GAMING MY ASS!
well if i have to pay, -blam!- that, im giving up on xbox and moving on to ps3, im just so -blam!- ANGRY AND UPSET, that the only game, that i have been excited about for this entire YEAR and i cant play it, because some idiot was to lazy to do his job, Some of the loyal fan's of bungie, and microsoft are being affected, but after this, THE ONE TRUE GAME ON 360 I HAVE LOVED FOR 10 years straight, i mean cmon you have to step up you're game's, and microsoft, you guy's get paid enough as it is, you make us pay for stupid -blam!- at you're fault's like Red ring, if you were out of warranty, you had to pay for it, if you're xbox got the e74 error or whatever you had to pay, and now this, when something is clearly at YOU'RE!, not us as customers fault........man, this was a huge rage but still i had to get out how frustrating it is, for a True halo fan, who's
B.net account as recently banned for no apparent reason, so i just needed to be heard.

Yea, that about sums it up. Sadly, we seem to be a very small minority. And i guess if sending in my xbox for three weeks is the way to fix it, then I demand a refund for the game cause this is bull-blam!-.

  • 09.16.2010 1:38 AM PDT

I'm having problems with Reach aswell. The first time i fired it up after installing it into the HDD the first intro was looping over and over. Couldn't get into the in-game cinematics part.

I then took the disc out to see if there was any marks on it and it was totally fine. I tried again and i got the green screen after the loading icon, not even getting to the main menus.

Since my warranty had voided ~1½ years ago i opened it up and tweaked the dvd's laser potentiometer without any luck. Now i'll try to get a new copy and see if the problem really was in the disc itself.

PS. Using the Xbox Pro version with 20GB. Been fixed atleast 3 times under warranty - once for replacing the DVD-drive and twice for RROD.

Subject: Disc Not Reading (Current Support Path on Page 35)

i live in germany, have a 3 year old xbox, warranty, i believe, has expired. It won't make it past the opening scenes whent they are flying on a falcon. Matchmaking freezes after the game at the 'blinking lights.' Anyone know why this is even happening, is it happening to all of the original launch consoles?

  • 09.16.2010 3:13 AM PDT

I'm having the same problem! It returns me to the beginning of the level as if the checkpoints haven't been saved! When i take out my HDD this problem disappears

My new Stats

For what its worth, I have a 360 Elite which I bought new over the summer with the Forza 3 / ODST package. My disc was made in Mexico and I haven't had any problems with it not reading or anything like that.
