Are there blotches on your new disc?

Same problem, opening cut scene for campaign looped over and over. Called Microsoft, claimed they never heard of it, had me clear the cache. Will be following this thread for updates.

Have a 2006 Pro with 20GB HD...

extremely frustrating bc just a few months ago, I updated my PS3 for God of War 3, which stopped reading discs after the update. Sony's answer...send it in for $150 and we will fix it. Totally unacceptable!

  • 09.16.2010 2:34 PM PDT

Well I'm on my way to my local gamestop to get another copy. If the problem persists I will contact Xbox. If they give me the whole Send in my console BS I'm just gonna get my money back screw this. Screw microsoft and screw bungie. Funny i only have these problems with halo games and nothing else that says alot. I find it interesting that when Red Dead redemption had it's issue Rockstar acknowledged it and Fixed it immediately. here Bungie passes the buck to microsoft and microsoft wants to inconvenience you by you sending your system off for something they can supposedly fix with a download over the net. What if there update doesn't fix it then what?

I'm on the phone with Xbox now and they said I can get a free repair since this only happens with the one game. Right now they're transferring me to a escalation specialist. I'll update in a sec

I to have the same problem disc not working. I read on some site in the search engine on Google that if your game copy came from Puerto Rico, there was a problem (Dont know what), and that you need to switch out for a disc made in Mexico.

I have to do this as my legendary edtion was made in Puerto Rico, Can someone please try this and see if this is true?

I spent forever (90 minutes) on the phone yesterday with Microsoft. My only consolation was that the repairs would be free. If they try and make you pay complain, ask, request, plead, beg, hell, demand that they comp the repair. It is the least they can do for putting out such a crap product.

Seriously though if you're having issues, have returned the game, and tech support isn't helping bring up the fact that you know others that have been offered a console repair.

Also, USATOPGEAR, my disk does not work and was "Hencho en Mexico" I think the prob my be the console.

Sounds like they best thing to do is call them and make them see that this isnt just a small problem they should ignore, the more complain, the more willing they will be to do something about it. Then the sooner we can play Reach!

How do they "help deal with it"?
Mail it in to them? If that's the case then no thanks.

I have a 2 year old 360 with 120GB HD (purchased after console)and have had this issue with Reach and Madden 11. Every other game works fine. For Reach I get a green screen and then dirty disc error even when I have the game installed to the HD.

Oddly enough if I delete a bunch of other items and free up more HD space, the game works. Same with Madden. But I have to have 40GB of my 120GB free for it to work.

I'm gonna take a guess here, and say that the hard drives is problem here. Their fix is probably gonna speed up read/write to the hard drive as games like Reach require it.

But that's my guess for people who can play the game a little. I mean I removed my hard drive and I can now play (almost) without any crashes or DNR errors, but I can't play firefight so tradeoff...

If I have to send in my console for repair that's stupid, and another guess is that the new "Slim" consoles don't have this problem. Yes there are a few people with the Slim consoles and do get the problem but a majority of people have supported the fact that they don't get the error.

I also skipped Elite consoles because if I had to buy a new console I might as well by the brand new models.

I have a new slim and it has the problem. The game works without the hard drive but not with.

Not sending in my xbox just for one retarded game. Epic fail, Bungie/Microsoft.

Just following up with a previous post i made a few pages back. I called microsoft yesterday and they were of absolutely no help and surprise surprise they were of no help today as well. They simply told me that i was the first person to call with this issue *cough* bull-blam!- *cough* and once i was again transfered to someone else i was told that i would have to pay for my repair to which i responded with being a little more stern and saying that this is the only game that this is doing it with and i mentioned all of you others out there as well with this problem. They still are saying the only option is to pay 119 + tax + shipping and handling. I'm considering just returning reach and putting more ps3 pre-orders down.

  • 09.16.2010 3:40 PM PDT

I still think no one should send in their consoles at least for a couple more days. This really seems to be a software problem, and I'd wait a little longer for an announcement from bungie or microsoft

That's what I'm thinking. Unless it is confirmed that sending it in is the only available solution (they'd be getting a LOT of boxes it seems...) it seems to be a bit early to be shipping it out to Microsoft to fix.

  • 09.16.2010 4:06 PM PDT

Since Microsoft's announcement has anyone tried calling 1-800-4-MY-XBOX, I would be very interested to know what exactly they will do.

From what I've heard, they actually didn't say anything new at all. Just the same "send in your xbox" crap. Do they still not realize how many people are having this problem?

  • 09.16.2010 4:24 PM PDT

I just got off the phone with microsoft. I wasn't going to send it in but I feel like my console is nearing it's last leg anyway since it's an original. So why not send it in and possibly help them see the problem, everything is paid for but to get that point was like pulling teeth, 3 calls and about 2 hours and 45 minutes spent. The only positive from this is that I was able to see how my droids battery is while on the phone.

And for the record, in order to get them to give it to me for free, I asked them where I should email a scan of my 4 gamestop receipts from 3 different stores to show them it's not the disc.

It seems that majority of systems having troubles are Pros. Plenty of exceptions of course, I don't think there's one kind that hasn't been mentioned here. Once I get my copy tomorrow I'll know whether it works or not on my Arcade, since it didn't work on my brother's (a Pro).

Oh I'm sure they are well aware of how wide spread the problem is, but it makes sense for them to downplay it as much as possible. Think about it this way, are you more likely to pay for a repair job to allow you console to play a game if you think its just you or a known widespread issue?

  • 09.16.2010 4:35 PM PDT

I give you Wiings - Spencermx14

This is pretty bogus. I read somewhere in this mess about someone having problems with cut scenes. I get caught in a loop where they keep playing over and I can't skip out. If i do get into the level, sometimes when i die, instead of loading the checkpoint in goes to the very beginning cut scene. It's like Iron is always turned on. I beat the game but only received credit for maybe four or five levels because of having to save and quit and load from a rally point. Even then, I have to make it through the rest of the level without dying sometimes. Blah

my exact problem, don't understand, and don't wanna send my xbox in.

dosn't work installed/and off disc

I just dont understand why ir has to be this complicated. Wasnt there a time when you could play a game and it would work? Instead of all of this a software patch should just be released so can all stop -blam!-ing and play the game. Thats why im hoping for word from bungie, or for microsoft to get there heads out of their asses and do something.........I just wanna play Reach :P

Subject: Disc Not Reading

death is the savior of life

i just got the game and cant play it yet is it a common issue and do i have to worry?

  • 09.16.2010 5:01 PM PDT

Yes. The issue seems less common (or less reported) on the new slims, though.

I'm considering calling them and asking about a firmware update that doesn't involve two-three weeks of my time.

I'm having the same problems. I get disc load errors about every third game. Not cool.
