I am VERY VERY tempted to trade in my xbox for a new one. I simply can not wait any longer. I paid $90 for this game and I'm tired of waiting...

I phoned the UK 0800 number and they knew about the issue and were more than happy to fix my xbox for free outside of it's warranty. Also they gave me 1 month xbox live for free and 3 months warranty on the console. So overall I come out good from this problem.

Getting Reach today, and Im wondering if I may have any of these problems. My original premium 2006 console was replaced with a 2008 model (manufacturing date), and I just want to know if it too may suffer the same fate. It does not have any HDMI ports, and this is the DVD drive it uses. The beta worked fine, and the only time I get "Eject Tray" or "Mixed Media" is when I pop in a badly scratched DVD. Anyone?

PS: check here if you would like to check which DVD drive you have.

My Reach disc was faulty too. My Xbox wouldn't even start up the game. I knew it wasn't my Xbox because it is relatively new.

Fortunately for me I live a block away from a Gamestop, so I took it back there, and the guy told me that apparently they have had tons of returns. I was the tenth person to return the game. Fortunately my replacement worked just fine.

Maybe the factory that makes the discs had some faulty fabrication equipment.

What baffles me are people who say they played it fine the first few days...

Has anyone else had this problem with halo 3 and/or odst? I know i have, only recently, right after the countdown i'd get disc unreadable, i thought it was weird that BOTH discs froze in the same spot. I for one wasn't surprised when reach did it, only that it was after the first cutscene of the campaign...

The console that replaced my E-74 never worked, will the next one??

  • 09.18.2010 10:18 AM PDT

Yep. Same problem. Disc isn't anymore after I roughly got through to only the Oni sword base on campaign. Of course I can't play multiplayer either because I rarely get to finish a match. Going to send my Xbox in to get it fixed. Unfortunately I leave for Marine Corps Boot Camp in less than 3 weeks now. And it takes 3 weeks for the box to come back.

Feels Bad Man.

They take back the discs?

Would they take mine back because mine rarely becomes unreadable.

Actually that is true for me, a month before Reach came out I started getting disc read unreadable on Halo 3/ODST even the mythic disc and they were perfectly fine. They started showing up in August while all my other games (Hell Call of Duty works perfectly) work fine.

Microsoft what the -blam!- are you planning?

I did that too but I had the same issue. It's a compatibility problem with the first batch of consoles (mostly) accoring to xbox support.

  • 09.18.2010 11:09 AM PDT

Actually, come to think of it, my Halo 3 and ODST discs were messing up... Neither my mythic or normal disc can play sandbox, and ONLY sandbox... all the other maps work fine. and in ODST I would always get a DRE trying to play Streets of New Mombassa. Clearing my cache solved that problem, but I still can't play sandbox, which is where the majority of my map variants are. not to mention I can't play on Sword base or Boneyard, which almost always get voted for in matchmaking. WTF Bungle? Fix yo game

But is it hardware or firmware related? That hasn't been sufficiently answered in my mind.

Okay, let me start off by saying that this game is awesome! It's got a few problems though.... The game keeps freezing during the campaign and giving me disk read error messages. Also the matchmaking is fun... it need the quit/ban rule removed and SWAT needs it's own playlist. Dont get me wrong, I like SWAT... however I dont like playing it all the time and it always gets voted in. It's really retarded. The game doesn't give you a chance to find a different match- IT MAKES YOU PLAY A GAMETYPE THAT YOU DONT WANT TO PLAY. Of course I quit when I really didn't want to play SWAT and the disapointment of being forced to causes me to play bad and make my K/D ration badly negative. Bottom line is this. I'm asking bungie to fix this problem because I just got temporary banned from matchmaking because of this.... If you want weak 1 shot kills all the time then go back to CoD where you belong. Thank you

I'm not sending my system in...**** that. I waited in line for 6 hours for this game I should be able to play it, if anything Bungie should come out with an update, or call back Halo Reach for improved copies that will work. This is a moronic mistake by them, you just made the biggest game to ever come out on the Xbox 360 and you f****d it up.

The best part is, they aren't even addressing this to the public, very unlike the iPhone4 situation. You can at least post it on your site right away to let everyone know you at least making an effort to fix this problem, we paid for your game and now we can't even play. For what Bungie and Microsoft are doing right now, it seems a bit childish to neglect the problem as much as they are, they're just having their little peons post in a forum, nothing else. There are only rumors of an update.

I'm very glad to see more people posting in my Technical Issues thread: http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=34284502. Hopefully somebody official will comment on it, but keep up those posts! Bring the issue to their forums where it has the potential to harm them, and perhaps something will be done :)

  • 09.18.2010 12:05 PM PDT

Well today was a little different, I was able to play through the entire first mission when I disconnected xbox live but it didn't even try to load the second before I got DRE

  • 09.18.2010 12:16 PM PDT

< Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The internet is a privilege not a right >

Everyone. Please don't immediately assume you are suffering from the same problems. Go through the steps.

1. Clean your disc.
2. Clean your console.
3. Return the disc for a replacement.

Only then will you be assured that your Xbox is having issues. It COULD very well be just a problem with the game itself.

I wouldn't want someone to assume they have to wait for the patch when really they might just need to give their laser a clean or get a new copy of the game (I do not endorse taking your Xbox apart to clean the laser, buy a laser cleaning kit).

  • 09.18.2010 12:33 PM PDT

Could it be nothings been said because they don't know what the problem is?

Come monday, if nothing is resolved or even addressed i'm just drop kicking my xbox, reach in drive, off my balcony...

Anyone have problems with the beta? I'm pretty sure i couldn't play system test 1 (generator firefight) or whatever they called it, with people on my friends list...

  • 09.18.2010 12:55 PM PDT

Reach rocks. Period.

On the phone with xbox support right now. They are saying that an update is in the works but that the console will still have to be sent in for repairs. Sweet. Create a game for a console when the tech in the console can't handle it...... Great business practice..... That was sarcasm.

  • 09.18.2010 1:07 PM PDT

=)

it works now that i set it on heroic. just not normal.

  • 09.18.2010 1:10 PM PDT

Oh...this is just BEAUTIFUL. My 3rd copy was working pretty well yesterday. I could play everything but a few campaign missions.

Today, I put in the game and my TV screen turns bright green.

ISN'T THAT COOL?!?!

Icing on the cake...

So after contacting microsoft and being told it would be a three week turnaround, I broke down and decided to buy a new xbox to play Reach with. Went and picked up the slim, figuring I can upgrade the hard drive. My first sign that something was amiss was when we got home and found that the box was opened and there were no twisty ties keeping the cables organized (cause it's opened if there are not a million of those buggers). Checked the manufacturing date and found that this particular box was manufactured in May of 2010. Put reach in and got the same unreadable disk issue. I am fairly certain it is not the disk as I have swapped out the disk already. Will be returning this DOA machine to Walmart this afternoon.

For those that have sent in their consoles for "repair," is Microsoft requesting you send in your 360 unit as well as the hard drive? Usually they tell you to keep your HD when you send it in. I don't want to lose all my data! I'm on the phone with support again... Getting transferred to a specialist to probably get the repair process started...
