Subject: Disc Not Reading? Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for support (see page 35).

Just wanted to leave one last comment on these boards.

I purchased the game last week at Wal-Mart after work on the day of release. The disk did not read in my system and I was unable to play the game. The system reported that the disk was unreadable, and when it was readable it showed up as a splash screen of the xbox 360 logo.

I tried replacing the disk from walmart, however the second disk did the same thing. Tried to buy a new console, but that console had the same error with the disks. Returned the system, and went and purchased a second disk from Gamestop. This time, the game disk worked. In talking to people at Gamestop and Wal-Mart, it turned out that Wal-Mart had returned a lot of disks, while Gamestop in our area had not recieved one call in this last week regarding broken disks.

While not all experiences will be the same as mine, figured I'd share this to help someone out there.

p.s. When I discussed this issue with the MS rep, they directed me to get a hardware replacement after hearing that I had replaced the disk once. I don't think Microsoft has an idea of why this is happening, and I would be suspicious of Wal-Mart disks.

Subject: Disc Not Reading

Update: My Xbox freezes and hangs during intense firefights. I was just playing Nightfall, and was defending the pylons from the hunters, and it froze up a couple times during all the plasma explosions.

I can play BatmanAA, DeathSpank, Bioshock2, Darksiders without any problem.

So is this problem also affecting the new slims as well?

Hmmm, I got my disk from walmart!

should we start comparing SKU's or disc makers?

I just talked to 1-800-4-MY XBOX. I orginally decided to wait and see if there was a software patch in the works. Tonight, I decided to call them. Things are not good.

1. There is no software patch in the works.
2. I was quoted by support, "When Halo:Reach released, MS was aware of the disc reading errors. Microsoft has approved free hardware repairs for claims made within one week of launch. HOWEVER, they rescinded the free repair offer as of 09-17-10."

What this means is, in order to play, you have to pay the $119.99 repair fee. They would not offer me any other resolution. ..I was on the phone with them for nearly 3 hours. Good luck to all on getting their machines running. MS has screwed us again.

WHAT?!

So basically this is just Microsoft saying once again "We knew it was faulty all along, please give us more money for a problem we knew about", this is freaking robbery. Can't they be sued for this?

My Reach works now, I went to go exchange my Reach for another one since my first one did not work. It appears it was the disk causing the problem, I have a pro xbox too. Reach works just fine. For all that are having doubts try getting a new copy maybe that might help.

I've traded my game in twice. All 3 copies that have been in my possession have been faulty, but all of my other games work.

The guy at my Gamestop said that I'm the only person that has complained about this problem which is really strange because the odds of me receiving 3 faulty discs are extremely slim...

-blam!-....Microsoft has screwed us once more and there's not a god damn thing we can do about it. Someone gonna sue or something? This is technically robbery if they knew there was a problem this entire time

Did they all have the same problems or happen at different times? But yeah, that would be slim that you are the only one getting a bad disc.

Man i just got that new xbox slim for Reach and they better do something about it.If that patch is not online in the next week ,i will go my self to Microsoft.

The way I see it, this is straight up fraud.

Microsoft marketed this game for the Xbox system, which implies that every Xbox should be able to run it. The fact that every other game works perfectly on every Xbox affected (except those that appear to have been broken by the game) shows that these systems are in WORKING CONDITION, and thus a fee for a so-called repair is not warranted, because the repair itself should not be needed. The fact that they are charging people to make their systems compatible with a game MARKETED TO SAID SYSTEM just screams "outrageously immoral and perhaps illegal" to me.

I'm seriously started to get pissed off. I got a new copy at gamestop today and had no problems. First I tested it in matchmaking to make sure I could load the maps I'd had problems with, then I played through the entire campaign just fine, but when I got to the last mission, after jumping the bridge, my game froze. I started it up again to just play some more matchmaking and now I can't load some of the maps!!! They're the exact same ones I had problems with before I traded in my disc and they worked perfectly fine before I played campaign. This is becoming a pain in the ass!

< Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The internet is a privilege not a right >

I may return my game for a full refund. It's unfortunate that Bungie is going to lose out on sales, and unfortunate there is such a sour end to the Halo series. No sense getting upset, I'm just disappointed.

  • 09.18.2010 9:46 PM PDT

I don't think this is correct. I had disc errors day one, called weas sent back to retail, that worked for a few missions then no dice. I called support tonight and after 1.5 hours got a hardware repair set-up. (Free of charge) They did state they are having a lot of issues and are setting up many, many repairs. So "they rescinded the free repair offer as of 09-17-10" is just not correct, call back and do not take no for an answer.

Each disc seems to give me the DRE at different points.

1st disc: Campaign (Tip of the Spear) and sometimes Matchmaking
2nd disc: Same as the 1st but DRE in Matchmaking was more common
3rd disc: Random. Sometimes I can play for a game or two of Matchmaking and sometimes it completely rejects the disc. However, I was able to make it to the Exodus level in Campaign.

Yeah...I know. It's weird...

Wow, so I go to midnight release, finally get Halo Reach, it works for a few days, then it gets disc unreadable. Now I have to send in my xbox, possibly pay $100 or more, and wait 2-3 weeks to get it back?!

It's really hard enough going through school waiting to play Reach when I get home, but now its 3 more weeks?! wtfffffffff

  • 09.18.2010 10:02 PM PDT

Yeah. At this point, I'm not even gonna try to get a replacement copy. I'm just going to ask for my money back and sell my Xbox, too. You -blam!- up this time, Microsoft. I thought Apple was a corrupt business...

I'm almost certain that this is a case with the disks and the origin of where they were made/came from. I have been following this thread since it came out and all my friend and I have been playing it just fine. I myself am running an Elite with a 20Gig HDD.

I/We are located in California and got mine at Universal Citywalk. I went to my local Gamestop in Woodland Hills and asked the manager if he's been having complaints, issues, or returns with their Reach disks and he said he hasn't had one issue.

Also, the maturity level in this thread sucks.

Well some interesting news, I did the system cache flush and it seems to be working for now.

  • 09.18.2010 10:50 PM PDT

bobby

at this point i don't believe so. I bought a disk and my campaign started giving me the disk read error. So i returned the disk and got a replacement which did the same. Then i tried the new copy on a friends xbox with no problem.
At this point I bought a 4 gig slim to play my new copy on, only to find out that I couldnt play firefight matchmaking or coop on the slim.

Yes - but did you try a new location? Like I said, I believe the problem lies in specific areas.

I haven't tried this yet because I didn't know what was deleted when you clear the cache.

Does it wipe out game updates only or does it do more than that?

EDIT: Nevermind this post. I found what I needed and I've cleared my cache.
