Dont worry everyone! the game is intented to be played this way- slow, tedious steps just waiting for the next loading screen so you can quit to the dashboard and start the fun all over again!

Something tells me 1-800-4-MY-XBOX will cost me a bomb to call.

You probably wouldn't get anywhere, since that's the US support number. UK contact addresses and phone numbers are available on http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/contact/.

I also have the problem, also on a first-revision 360. Playing from disc, the game repeated the intro cutscene three times before throwing up a DRE, after installing to hard drive it starts up fine but just deadlocks a few minutes into the first mission. :(

Just tryed Reach campaign, after a few online games, because no disc unreadable errors came up after each of them. Did the first level, got the achievement and the disc unreadable error came up.

Does that mean its my disc or xbox playing up?

Well, I've arranged to send my xbox in for a free repair. The repair specialist I talked with said they would be making hardware upgrades for my unit, she also mentioned something about the disc drive specifically. I'm not too happy about being without it for 3 weeks but hopefully it will be prophylactic for potential future issues that may pop up with other games.

  • 09.19.2010 9:30 AM PDT

UURGH! So it IS a hardware issue!? That sucks huge. I like Halo but don't know if it's worth not playing RDR or BFBC2 or any of the other games I like for 2 weeks! If DR2 or Fallout NV or the new CoD;BO, MoH, GR:FS, Deus Ex, Red Faction, Fable 3, etc... have this issue then that's different. I'll just go trade-in my hopefully still functioning 20Gb pro for 250Gb slim (gonna happen sooner or later) and maybe then I'll be able to play the last two missions of Halo:Reach. But I ain't sending in jack and waiting 2 weeks if it ain't broke.

I suppose if I really wanted to see the end of the story I could watch a playthrough on youtube with a controller in my hand! How much would THAT suck?

Subject: Disc Not Reading? Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for support (see page 35).

It's been almost a week since the launch of Halo Reach and we still have no update from either Bungie or Microsoft. We're only seeing rumors on other forums about an update to fix this problem, where is the word from Bungie themselves? They should be letting us know what is going on. Right now I'm thinking "Do I really have to go out and buy a new Xbox 360 to play this game?" because they are not saying anything, they are only posting in 1 specific thread on their forums and so far all they have said is to call Xbox and send our system in.

A software update online is very easy for a problem like this, many games have taken care of it in the past, and sometimes it only took them hours to fix problems like this. You find out why these systems aren't reading the disc correctly, you change the coding to the correct format, and you send out the update to everyone as an Xbox Live update. Why can't they do that? We paid 60$ (some of us paid more) for their game and for some of us we can't even play it.

This is just childish for Bungie and Microsoft to act this way. They are not saying anything about what their doing, and by now an update should already be out. Nothing has been said, nothing about what the problem is specifically, no word on when the update will be coming out. At least Apple confronted their customers about the iPhone 4 problems, Halo Reach buyers have not heard anything yet.

i thought i would be able to complete halo after i managed to get past the opening cut scene issue but i just completed the tip of the spear, 5th mission and i got the disc read issue again. doesnt matter if i am logged into live or not, same error.oh well, if i need to find out how the game progresses after that, i will have to have a gander at some vids on youtube to find out what happens at the end and be happy that i have no issues with MP (currently).

just tried same disc, same hdd on different xbox 360 and mission 6 starts 1st time.

not the hdd or the disc then, must be something to do with the firmware on my dvd drive. my xbox is a replacement model after my original one rrod'd on me and the only time the refurbed dvd drive gets used is to install the game to hdd. MS sticking dodgy firware on refurbed models?

looks that way

If there is any possibly for a patch, it won't be coming soon. It would make Microsoft look bad. And that's more important than their paying costumers, right? Well it is firmware/software so it likely is possible, and you're right they should at least make sure their customers are getting what they paid for. I dont care if they dont make a big announcement about it, if the quietly just released a patch, without any word on it I would be happy. Until then we can only call telling them that and post on the xbox forums

My console is X360 Arcade, manufactured in 2008-07-12 (Y-M-D), am i in the risk group of having this thing? :o
I just read that mostly the consoles affected are X360 20gb Pro manufactured from 2005-2008 and some elites.

At this point there is no way to tell if you will be safe or not, all versions have had the problem.

  • 09.19.2010 10:43 AM PDT

I have the new 220GB Xbox, and I keep getting a white Xbox Logo screen when I go to play Reach. I have played this game since the first day it came out and have ot only had this problem for a day. Every other game that I play works (Red Dead Redemption, UFC Undisputed 2010.) I am on the line with 1800-4-MY-XBOX right now. I hope to god I don't need to buy a new xbox.

  • 09.19.2010 10:56 AM PDT

By the way, might be just pure luck, but doesnt it seem to be fishy that no testers or game critics encountered this? There are like +20 reviews of big sites like Gamespot, IGN, etc... Werent there a single hiccup for them OR the testers?

  • 09.19.2010 10:59 AM PDT

The word is slowly getting out, hopefully that will put more pressure on Microsoft to release a patch, but we gotta make it known the amount of people its effecting isnt as small as Microsoft says it is

I dont think it is a hardwar issue. My disc did the same thing to me where it restricted my play on campaign when reaching a certain level. I was able to play multiplayer just fine. Since I had nothing to lose I just stood my xbox vertically and cleared my memory cache about 8 times in a row and all of a sudden it loaded the missions that DRE would appear on. I finished the game finally last night

Well you shouldnt say that just cause Microsoft wants to make as hard as possible for us to play it. Reach is great(despite the fact I cant play it for too long before it crashes, and I'm sure a patch will eventually be released, still it is ridiculous

Had to get out the boat so i could walk on water

This is going to be opinion of alot fans who feel betrayed by lack of quality that this product has shown

  • 09.19.2010 12:27 PM PDT

Lol. I like how they have "Buy Halo: Reach Now!" bulleted everywhere on this site in the meanwhile. So much for addressing the situation.

  • 09.19.2010 12:31 PM PDT

At this point I wouldn't trust customer support to give any reliable information other than "We'll repair it for free".

  • 09.19.2010 12:35 PM PDT

this is such BS.....at this point, the only way i would be satisfied is if i called Xbox support and they told me they're gonna send me a new 360...i am not waiting 3-4 weeks to play a game when there are hundreds of other games that WORK LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO

My 360 rrod too and was sent in for repair and now will not read and when it does if freezes mid play on or off line. I do think for some of us the repair was not done right. I have had 3 different discs.

For the game reviews May be they were sent full test packages with consoles and discs ms knew would work. So they would not have any problems.
