It's been almost a week since the launch of Halo Reach and we still have no update from either Bungie or Microsoft. We're only seeing rumors on other forums about an update to fix this problem, where is the word from Bungie themselves? They should be letting us know what is going on. Right now I'm thinking "Do I really have to go out and buy a new Xbox 360 to play this game?" because they are not saying anything, they are only posting in 1 specific thread on their forums and so far all they have said is to call Xbox and send our system in.

A software update online is very easy for a problem like this, many games have taken care of it in the past, and sometimes it only took them hours to fix problems like this. You find out why these systems aren't reading the disc correctly, you change the coding to the correct format, and you send out the update to everyone as an Xbox Live update. Why can't they do that? We paid 60$ (some of us paid more) for their game and for some of us we can't even play it.

This is just childish for Bungie and Microsoft to act this way. They are not saying anything about what their doing, and by now an update should already be out. Nothing has been said, nothing about what the problem is specifically, no word on when the update will be coming out. At least Apple confronted their customers about the iPhone 4 problems, Halo Reach buyers have not heard anything yet.

True ,lets hope to have it this week.
A simple update would be perfect .

Reviewers were given copies of the game via XBL Marketplace, hence why legitimate copies were leaked a little bit ago.

  • 09.19.2010 1:44 PM PDT

Let's just boycott Microsoft if they keep up with this stupidity. Can't believe they failed to notice this error, it must be money-related somehow.

You know, they should allow us to download this review copy if there is a way to provide proof of purchase... and if the review copy works, it's obviously a disc compatibility issue. But they'd never do something so smart.

You know, that's actually a brilliant solution! Come on Microsoft, use this idea!

well its good to see this thread growing, and that people are as upset about this as i am

i really can't fathom how this wasn't addressed before the game shipped...ESPECIALLY after the disk problems that ODST was having. its just unbelievable

ODST worked fine for me =/
I have a brand new X360 Elite, and still I have unreadable disc errors (before the menu even).

The absolute least they could be doing right now is letting us know that they are trying to solve this problem.

Even if they said something like: "We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. We are currently working on a fix for this issue," I'd be satisfied.

  • 09.19.2010 2:24 PM PDT

same thing here, very dissapointing :(

< Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The internet is a privilege not a right >

Well, I've returned my copy... permanently. I'd rather have that money to spend on other things than wait around for a fix that shouldn't be needed in the first place. I was willing to wait, but as others have said, there has been no official news as to the REAL issue with the game/console, and no apparent fix in the works.

If by chance they figure it out in the future, maybe I'll purchase the game then, but for now, I am just extremely disappointed. I didn't finish the campaign, and as a loyal Halo fan I'm saddened that the series would end on this sour note.

I really dont get it, they come out with a highly anticipated video game and having people spend there hard earned dollars on a game and get home and expect to be entertained for hours but unexpectedly get a dud copy that glitches when your in matchmaking, I went out all excited to buy the mew game and went all out and bought the limited edition of the game, and I picked up a copy of the regular edition for my little cuzin because he begged me to get him one, we live a long way away from a good video game store so I had to drive a couple of hours away from home to go get them, but to my disappointment after getting home we install the game onto my hd the try to jump into matchmaking and just about as I'm able to get into the match I get an error message saying the disk is scratched or its dirty I know all well that my copy of the game is not and we try out my little cousins copy and same thing now I'm stuck with two F***ed Up copys of the game and out 160$, also me the dummy I'am didnt think I would need the recipt when the cashier asked me if I wanted it because I expected the copy of the games to work This is very frustrating and I hope this is all resolved

IT IS NOT THE XBOX FOR MOST PEOPLE, ITS THE HARD DRIVE!!!! TRY HALO REACH WITHOUT THE HARD DRIVE AND IT WILL PLAY PERFECTLY!!

~1337~

This happens to me, it doesnt work on my xbox but it does on my brothers.

  • 09.19.2010 3:31 PM PDT

Right, seriously upset. Just opened my wedding present from my wonderful new wife, the halo reach slim xbox and guess what? It won't play reach. Freezes when jorge tells the villagers to get back inside on the first mission. Twice on a row its done this so it has now been packed back up to be returned to the store. Seriously, this should not happen with the new console, especially the reach console. Very annoyed.

  • 09.19.2010 3:35 PM PDT

1 thing I'll just say, is if Bungie or Microsoft had made an announcement on bungie.net, or xboxlive.com to say "Hey, we're working on it, we'll keep you updated every 6 hours or so to let you know what is going on" I wouldn't be that mad about it because at least we know they're making an effort to fix this problem. But since they are not doing that, it really makes me think that the people at Bungie and Microsoft are very immature about situations like this.

Lets use the iPhone 4 example. Within 24 hours of the release of the iPhone 4, they were already talking about exchanging the iPhone 4 once they fix it. Within about a week, Steve Jobs had a press conference about the iPhone 4 and it's flaws, and guaranteed everyone that bought an iPhone 4, a free case, or they could get a full refund if they weren't satisfied enough with the product.

What is Bungie doing? They are having a forum put as a sticky for all to read while we wonder what is going on. It's been almost a week and Bungie has not said anything at all, we haven't even been told what the problem is, we just think it's the disc drive because some of us are getting disc drive errors. We haven't even been told if they are working on fixing this problem, in my book that is not even ethical! You just sold millions of copies of this game and it is flawed to the point that some people can not even play it and you have yet to address to the issue publicly.
