Without info on what's causing the problems and people not giving any relevant data to figure out the exact problem, it'll take a while for them to find a solution. Finding a solution and making the solution takes time. Sending your xboxes before they start charging would've been the best thing to do as it gives them info.
It's like going to a complicated maths exam that was given to you before you learn how to do it. Only thing you can do at that situation is trial and error (which only works for some) and hope for the best. Just give them time.
So far,
Launch xboxes have the most issues, though not all of them,
pros, elites and slims also have issues,
people have different problems, some were able to workaround them, while others that did the same didn't work for them.
workarounds (may/ may not work for you)
Get a new CD, turn off xbox LIVE, clear cache, remove hard drive and install a flash drive, as a last resort: get it sent in or buy a new one.
Also, has anyone asked Microsoft/ xbox support (not saying if they will do it) to give them ms points (or whatever they are called) for your troubles and see if downloading it from xbox LIVE works ?
