I'm creating this profile for my first ever post on Bungie.net - sad to say it involves the read disc errors I'm having... which mar an otherwise beautiful game.
I'm experiencing similar problems as reported by Mr. Wiggly71 on page 67.
I have an almost new Xbox Slim that included the hard drive.
I immediately installed the game upon purchase, and have had no problems until the last mission.
NO other game I own or play has ever had a problem (Red Dead Redemption, Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2, etc).
At the beginning of the last mission, the game locked up after the cinematics ended. The lockup ended in a 'read disc error'.
Following a reboot of the console, it went a bit longer, then did it again. Then I ran out of time to play.
Following another reboot the next day it worked until I had almost completed the first rally point; then as above the sound started not working. It was like the gunfire and the background music had ceased but some noises remained. Then as I completed the level, I got the disc read error; which is strange given that I'm playing from the installed hard drive (with the game in the drive, as normal).
The installation had gone fine, all gameplay had gone fine until that last mission.
Tonight I will try clearing the cache, but I don't want to sit on the phone with Microsoft for a half hour so they can tell me to ship in my brand new console for repair. That's an unacceptable solution; seeing as every other game plays fine.
Also possibly of note; that bottom of the disc has some discoloration to it, almost like a widening path - narrow from the center and wide at the outside.
I will try and get a photo of the marked discoloration to post here.
Thank you for any help Bungie / fellow users (people are are contacting Microsoft) / extant Covenant Engineers.
I hope this documentation helps. Brand new Slim console with hard drive; installed a brand new disc; same problems after several hours of play.
(Edit: just to be very clear, I only have the one disc available to me for testing... the discolored one.)
Based on past experience, calling Microsoft is next to useless, as the person who answers follows a script, and they are less than helpful of anything outside the script.
