Subject: Disc Not Reading? Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for support (see page 35).

The food chain starts here, get in line.

I having the same issues, I am currently running a 360 Elite with a 60gb drive. I am having game crashes, Disk Read Errors and freezing particularly during cut scenes and transitions during play. I cannot load the second part of rally point Alpha on the Long night of Solace mission anymore making it impossible for me to complete the Achievement in that part.

On a somewhat related note it seems I can no longer play Xbox originals, the dashboards reads that there is a game and title but it hangs and does not load.

I am going to call M$ Xbox support about this issue. However I will most likely will get in contact with an overseas call center with scripted help support.

If it's an issue that needs fixing I have no issues sending it to them. BUT I will NOT accept a repair fee as a solution for an Elite that's barely a year old. If that's case I will file a complaint to Better Business or another commerce/consumer protection agency. There should NOT be a problem with a game that only came out 9 days ago, for a product that was advertised to work on any Xbox.

Ontop on this issue I am not happy with upcoming increase of the Xbox live fees which offers nothing but a glorified P2P service and cleverly placed advertising.

"It seems that thousands of gamers are experiencing Disc Read Errors from Microsoft and Bungie's newest release Halo Reach. While many paying customers cannot play their brand new games, Bungie and Microsoft have refused to comment on whether or not they are fixing the situation, and when you contact xbox support like you are supposed to, they demand you pay 100$ to fix the console that runs every other game perfectly. There is a 70 page thread that has been stickied in Bungie's Halo Reach Community Forums (http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=48970376& viewreplies=true&postRepeater1-p=69#end) , and yet gamers have received no response about a fix for a game they forked 60$+ over for and cannot return to the store for retail value!

I thought this sort of thing would be up your guys' alley and any help from you guys as far as getting the word out about this would be IMMENSELY appreciated.

I think it might be specific disc drives. Mines the benq drive. To check what yours is, take off the faceplate and look in the hole near the disc drive. If it's benq you'll see a white wire

I'll add my name to the list.
BRAND new 250GB Slim (Quite literally 0 hours on it). DVD locks at the Xbox 360 Game load screen. I'll be d****d if i'm gonna send in my new xbox to MS, just to be sent a refurb back. No thanks.

"Oh hey honey im going to virtually destroy oh.... 10 or so interplanetary species and hopefully become a god after I have a cataclysmic suicide!"

On the last level in the caves, it freezes and gives me the disk unreadable error. Also, when I shoot buggers they explode, and all sound effects in the game are gone - it's just silence and people talking.

I tried customer support, and she took me though steps like clearing the catch, taking out the hard drive, and cleaning the disk.. and nothing worked, she then told me to send in my consol which i will not do.

:( I can't finish the game..

Microsoft is retarded. I e-mailed xbox support telling them about the halo: reach errors. The reply I got back was absolutely unrelated and only gave me troubleshooting tips

  • 09.20.2010 2:22 PM PDT

and i just got hung up on again after calling to be transferred to a supervisor....

Perfect! We should continue emailing G4, and other video game or news sites, ANYTHING to get the word out. Should also mention something about the fact that some peoples Xboxs have crapped out on them entirely after trying to play Halo Reach. All we want is a patch Bungie and Microsoft

UPDATE: I was finally able to play more of campaign by disconnecting xbox live, problem is...now I'm stuck on the mission "Tip of the Spear" because the intro cutscene keeps looping and resetting me back to the start of the mission after I crashland with Jorge

they did that to me also

  • 09.20.2010 2:38 PM PDT

I talked to them a half hour ago, they said they stopped giving the free, out of warranty, repair yesterday. Told them that this was not fair and their superviser said there is nothing he can do, over and over!

Further update: since getting reach to worl on my brand new reach xbox by clearing the cache it has now suddenly become much worse, now I cant even get through the first cut scenes. Do I try to exchange my console for another one?

Could it be that all these errors are from a software bug?

When I play the campaign in any mode, (solo, online and offline co-op) it works perfectly 100% of the time.

Trying to figure out what's wrong (and what game modes I can't play) I try a variety of different modes and options and I turn scoring on for the campaign.

So with scoring turned on the game got the DRE every time I saved and quit. With scoring turned off, when I save and quit there are no errors and it works every time. I've tested this several times to see if indeed it follows this pattern and it does without a doubt.

It seems that with certain game modes it crashes the xbox hardware somehow once the game ends. Something to do with the hard drive I think. It seems that firefight never finishes sucessfully for me as I need to have the hard drive inserted to even play it and its then when the problem happens the most. With the hard drive removed most games work fairly often, with it crashing out maybe 1 out of 5 games. It seems to randomly happen.

This isn't always the case though. Last night I got a system update for my Xbox and after that update Forge will not load at all... crashes to a DRE before it starts. Everything else seemed unchanged.

My big concern is that if it IS a bug that can be fixed, I don't want to go out and have to buy a new Xbox or a new hard drive or send my current xbox away just to have a patch released the next day that fixes this.

Will there be any word if this is actually being looked at from a bug point of view?

theweeklyblend.com - for the fans by the fans

We did a write up on our blog, theweeklyblend.com, which got quoted on joystiq. Hopefully this catches on. I have a few contacts at MS and am not getting any response from them AT ALL, which means MS has put the muzzle on the employees.

i really love that i keep getting the " as much as we want to help you we can't"...its more like "our bosses realized that if we can charge thousands of people $120 a piece we can make a killing and this way we dont tie up our repair center for free." and now after my 3rd call and 45 min on the phone...they are telling me they have no supervisors there...I REALLY DON'T BELIEVE THEY LET IDIOTS LIKE THIS PERSON WORK WITHOUT A SUPERVISOR PRESENT ITS MICROSOFT!...they are saying the only thing they can do is have a supervisor call me back within 24 hours to try to get me off the phone and continue stalling and dodging the issue THEY have created...i am seriously considering trading both my xboxs in and buying a PS3

its not a simple patch that can be coded in a few hours. dont state false information. yea it blows we are having this problem, but falsifying info isnt going to help. it takes weeks of coding and weeks of testing then more weeks of certification before something is released.

Just a note: After I cleared the cache my problem hasnt come back. BUT: I dont have scoring on, and I dont have any skulls either: On Legendary

Hey guys, still no word??!? ok well I sent my xbox away wednesday last week, the day after reach came out... It is now in transit back to me, so 1 week turnaround is pretty good... But here is my worry, If i get my console back and it still does not work, I will firstly be calling MS support back and really giving it to them...

Secondly if something is not done about it to my satisfaction, then I will be seeing legal action because I've been 1 week without my console which works perfectly AND I have had to wait an extra week to play reach which still won't work..

I'm hoping to get my console back today or tomorrow and I will post on here with the outcome. I also had my console fixed for free... And I remember telling everyone that they should do the same that way MS will be closer to finding a common issue the more consoles they receive, and now they're trying to charge for a repair... THAT IS TOTAL BULL....

Well we will know soon enough whether sending the console in for repair is worth doing...

1 more thing is that I got an email from Support about my console saying it has been repaired and I noticed that it has a new serial number so I suppose that means that I have received a replacement console

Well, I bought Reach from Newegg. It arrived and my 360 would not recognize it as a game -- it would always recognize it as a DVD, a CD or not at all. After reading through this thread I saw the boiling technique, so I figured "why not?"

I boiled my disc for a couple of minutes, cleaned it off with some pumped hand soap (I guess something from the pot I was using got onto the disc because it looked grimy after boiling), cleaned it off with tap water, dried it off, and afterwards it seems to be working fine.

I'm about 25% installing it right now, so we'll see.
