Soul slayer Ashido

You know the world is effed up when a pirate copies of the game works fine but retail copies that people who actually want to support Bungie get screwed over. That alone should prove that it's the disc type they chose for these games. I'm going to hold my copy until the next shipment comes out and then i'll exchange it, because this initial shipment is bugged out.

Why are Long Night of Solace and Exodus the only missions I can play with like zero issues?

I have just phoned Microsoft Support and even though my xbox is out of warranty, they are going to do a free repair - so its going back. I suspect Microsoft know exactly what component is causing the problem but they are not saying.

how did u do that the 4 service people i have talked to have swore on everything they wish they could give it to me for free but cannot?

  • 09.21.2010 6:52 AM PDT

Yea I called and got my repair for free too.

What I did was I called another guy from Microsoft and told him that on the phone

"the last representative I spoke too said to buy another REACH disk and if that dont work then I can get my repair for free even tho its out of warranty!"

The representative said I couldnt do it because its out of warranty but I kept telling him that the last guy i called is doing it for free, He then decided to give in because I kept saying that and I got an extended year on my warranty and I got to send it in for free.

Hopefully youll get lucky and send it in too, Just dont take NO for an answer if it dont work then call another guy and get really angry over the phone like i did.

**** it! I'm just gonna cave and buy the slim. I know it's what MS wants, but I'm tired of not being able to play and I don't want to wait 3 weeks for a repair.

Just keep telling them that they are going to fix it and that you're arn't going to pay for it, if they refuse ask to speak to their supervisor. It was an escalation specialist's boss that finally gave me mine for free after 2 1/2 hours of arguing with those -blam!-s.

Jaredhenry13 - that MIGHT not solve your problem - take a look at my post on page 69.

A Slim may not solve your problem.
I have an almost brand new Xbox Slim WITH the included hard drive. I installed directly TO the hard drive immediately upon purchase.

I have disc error read problems that crop up from time to time, usually near the end of missions, sometimes at the beginnning.

Pie is tasty.

I am also having the DRE and I called their support numerous times and was told to return the game for a new one. 7 discs later I still get the DRE. I sent emails to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, G4 about this and hopefully it will blow up in Microsoft's face. I am also talking to my dad to see if there is any legal action we can take because this is terrible. Like many have said this is an XBOX 360 game and it is advertised for the XBOX 360 so therefor it should work on an XBOX 360. Not a single person should pay for repairs nor should a single person pay for a new xbox 360 in order to play Reach. If anything Microsoft should send us all NEW xboxs because this is their fault.

I have done the clear cache a few times and the game works for a few minutes then crashes at random times. I am seriously thinking of just dropping Halo: Reach, sending a letter saying I will take up legal action if there are no steps taken to fix the problem then just play one of my other 10 games that work perfectly. How can this be a system problem if 10/11 games work perfectly?

A Better Time - Too late. I already bought it and the game is installing now. I'll report back once I run the game.

Maybe we should start boiling our Xboxi for those whose problem isn't with the disc. I mean, it's working for those people. So if we just apply the same method to our problem, it should work right?.....right?

Hello uejji, can you remind me what type and approx. year your console is and what kind of problem you were having.

I have a launch 20g xbox repaired twice for rrod. My halo reach game shows the 'read disc error' at the end of online multiplayer matches and at the loading of certain maps. Also it wont even let me pass the first level. Sometimes it doesnt let me pass the intro movie.

Man, it takes forever to boil this much water. Maybe if I scooch it over I can get it on both burners.

  • 09.21.2010 10:13 AM PDT

i boiled mine last night too. it didnt seem to make a difference. which is good and bad, i mean at least its not totally broken. Maybe i need to do it longer. i dunno. Anyways i noticed some 'stuff' appear on the surface of the water, maybe that protective coating thing or glue or whatever.

so when i was done cooking i played my game and got disc read errors. i ejected the gamed to clean and notice wax like substance coming off. i wiped and played again. no better or worse. got the dre again, ejected and more waxy stuff. still played as crappy as before.

I'm doing a repeated dunking motion to try and get a thorough cleaning. So far I've been able to remove all the excess gunk from the outside. I left the disc tray open while dunking so the water could circulate throughout the entirely of the system for an even wash.

Ok, getting pissed off now, just spent 30mins on the phone to microsoft who talked me through removing and replacing the hard drive as that apparently can solve this kind of problem. 5 minute into tip of the spear and guess what? Game freeze. Why was i able to play so farinto the game originally but now I'm lucky if i get more than 5 minutes? What a sack of -blam!-.

I have a late 2008 Jasper unit Arcade (built-in 256MB flash, white disc tray, BenQ drive) with an ebay 120GB hard drive.

The problem I was having was my 360 refused to see the Reach disc as a game disc. That was the peril of the OP, in fact. I tried everything I could think of for a couple of hours, and after boiling the disc yesterday it's worked perfectly so far.

Edit: Not trying to really recommend to anyone to boil their disc, but I *really* only think it can help those who have the same problem the OP, myself and a few others in this thread have had -- when the 360 seems the Reach disc as a DVD, CD or nothing at all. I really don't think it can help DREs.

No, it totally works! After about a 30 minute dunk bath in boiling water my 360 stopped getting DREs. I guess the expansion and compression from the rapid temperature changes caused the inside hardware to readjust itself, effectively restoring it to factory settings which cleared it of all unnecessary data that had been stored on it through automatic updates. I think my my 360 is actually faster now.
